ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOVS . —The Regular Monthly Meeting of the Council of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys was heid on Friday , the 7 th inst ., being postponed from the regular date ( 31 st ult . ) , in consequence of the occurrence of Whitsuntide as provided by the Laws . The chair was taken by Bro . Richard Eve , and amongst those present were Bros . Le Feuvre , Fairchild , Margrett , Manfield , Pulman , and Emery . l'inance Committee had made a furtherlinvestmentof £ 50 co in the purchase ot Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company ' s three per cent . Debenture Stock . | A resolution of condolence with Mrs . Masters on the death of her husband was passed , and for the extraordinary vacancy on the Board of Management created by this lamented occurrence , Bro . Dr . W . H . Kempster , P . M . Co , P . G . Stwd ., Vice-President of the Institution , was nominated for election at the next regular meeting on the 28 th inst .

IT HAS BEEN announced that the marriage of the Earl of Carnarvon with Miss Wombwell will be solemnised at St , Margaret ' s , Westminster , on Wednesday , the 26 th instant . THE MEETINGS of the Clapton Chapter of Improvement , No . 1365 , will in future be held on Wednesday evenings , at eight o'clock , at the Amherst Club , Rectory-road , Stoke Newington . BRO . J . RENWICK SEAGER , was presented with an illuminated address and a purse containing a cheque for £ 500 on Wednssday last , by Lord Tweedmouth , on behalf of over 300 subscribers .

THE ANNUAL regimental dinner of the 10 th ( Prince of Wales's Own Royal ) Hussars was held at the Hotel Metropole , on Wednesday evening , under the presidency of the Prince of Wales , who is the colonel of the regiment . THE ANNUAL DINNER of the Royal Engineers was held in the Whitehall Rooms of the Hotel Metropole on Saturday evening last , under the presidency of H . R . H . the Duke of Cambridge , Commander-in-Chief , who is Colonel of the Corps .

THE DUCHESS OF YORK , accompanied by her husband , paid an opening visit to the sale held at Stafford House by the Scottish Home Industries Association on Wednesday , the Princess Louise and the Marchioness of L ^ rne being also present . MONDAY , the 22 nd July , has been fixed for the opening day of the Eastbourne Rose Fete Week . The principal features of the programme include a rose battle , rose ball , and confetti battle , together with a cricket match . Messrs . Barnaby and R . M . Perry are the organisers of this novel fete .

AT A MEETING of the Fletcher Chapter , No . 1031 , held at the Masonic Hall , Birmingham , on Tuesday , the 4 th inst ., Comp . George N . Milivard , M . E . Z ., in addition to presenting a P . Z . 's jewel to Comp . Glover , presented a special jewel to Comps . W . M . Boddington , P . Z ., and T , N . Bladon , P . Z ., in recognition ot many years' valuable services rendered by them to the chapter . BRO . CHARLIE PFEIFFER , P . M . 1 SS 3 , P . P . G . D . Somerset , who is severing his connection with the firm of Messrs . R . W . Miller and Co ., Limited , of Bristol , after 15

years service as traveller , has been presented by his fellow employes with a silver tea service , as a token of their esteem . The presentation was made by Mr . H . W . Hewlett , at a pleasant gathering held on Monday , the 10 th inst ., at the City Arms Hotel . AT A SPECIAL GENERAL COURT of the brethren of the Trinity House , which was held on Monday , the 10 th instant , the Duke of York was unanimously elected Master and Captain , Sir J . Sydney Webb , Deputy Master . At the conclusion of the appointed business the Court was closed , and the Deputy Master , the Elder Brethren , and the

officials of the Corporation attended Divine service at St . Olave's Church , Hart-street . IN CONNECTION with the proposed Festival at Brighton on Wednesday , July jrd , we beg to remind the brethren that there is now a Masons' Club established , to which non-residents can be admitted as temporary members for a week , a month , or a year at a small charge . Any brethren desiring to avail themselves of the privilege should apply to the Secretary , Bro . A . J . Freeman , on the premises , Regent House , No . 2 , Church-street , Brighton .

H . R . H . THE PRINCE OF WALES has already expressed his desire to ^ encourage a revival of the English silk industry , and it is hoped that he will be induced to create a revolution in gentleman ' s attire by donning those patterned silk waistcoats which were the pride of the dandy in the days of the Georges . It is stated that a Spitalfield ' s firm of silk manufacturers will shortly submit for the Prince ' s approval several exquisite specimens of these picturesque silk vestings . ;

THE DIRECTORS OF SPIERS AND POND , LIMITED , notify that the transfer books will be closed from the 17 th inst . to the 30 th inst ., ; both inclusive , for the purpose of preparing the interest warrants , on the 5 per cent , first mortgage debentures , the 5 per cent . " A " mortgage debenture stock , and the 5 per cent . ••B " debenture stock , and the 4 per cent . " C " debenture stock of the company . The warrants will be posted on the evening of the 29 th instant .

DEATH OF A VENERABLE FREEMASON . —The death occurred at 1 , Kelston-view , Sydney-buildings , Bath , on Monday , the 27 th inst ., of Bro . Edmund White , one of the oldest citizens of Bath . Deceased , who was in business in that city for many years , had reached his 92 nd year . He was at one time a member of the Town Council , but resigned , and left Bath , taking up his residence at Weston super-Mare . He returned to Bath two years ago . He was the oldest member of the Province of Somerset , having filled the Senior Warden ' s chair 55 years ago .

THE INSTALLATION of Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl of Onslow as Provincial Grand Master for the Province of Surrey will take place at the County and Borough Hall , Guildford , on Saturday , 6 th July . The interesting ceremony will be peiformed by Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom , Pro Grand Master of England . A committee has been formed to carry out the arrangemeats , consisting of the Worshipful Master and Secretary of the Onslow Lodge , Guildford , the Worshipful Master of Royal Alfred Lodge , Guildford , and ., several other Worshipful Masters of the immediate neighbourhood .

John , Westminster , on Wednesday last , at the fortnightly meeting , Chairman of the Vestry until the next annual election , which makes him—by the new Parish Councils Act—defacto a Justice of the Peace for Westminster . ON THE 31 st ult ., at Ilford , the Masons connected with the regimental lodges shot for the two challenge gavels , presented for annual competition by Iiro . Major Lambert , late Oueen's Westminster Rifles . Each lodge was represented by eight brethren , and the conditions were seven shots each at 200 , 500 , and Coj yards . The result for ths lirst gavel was a win for the London Rille Brigade ( No . 1062 ) , who totalled (" 125 points . Ihe Queen ' s Westminster ( No . 2021 ) , were next with 613 ; and the ist Surrey ( No . 5 G 1 ) third with 561 . For the second gavel the London Scottish ( No . 2310 ) were top with 5 G 9 , followed by the Bloomsbury Utiles with 5 OS , and the Honourable Artillery Company ( No . 560 ) , svho totalled 561 points .

PRINCESS EDWARD OF SAXE-WEIMAR presided at the opening ceremony of a three days' bazaar at the Athenicum , Camden-road , in aid of the building fund of the Stroud Green Home for Little Girls .

THE DUKB OF CAMBRIDGE , Commander-in-Chief , has made known his intention of reviewing the ist Life Guards , the Royal Horse Guards , and the Sth Hussars , on Wimbledon Common , on Monday , the 15 th July . THE SEVENTH ANNUAL FESTIVAL of the Nonconformist Choir Union will be held at the Crystal Palace , to-morrow ( Saturday ) , under the conductorship of Mr . E , Minshall . The choir will number about 4000 voices .

A CONCERT will be given by the Countess of Radnor ' s Ladies' String Band and chorus of 160 performers , at the People's Palace , on Saturday , the 29 th inst ., in aid of the funds of the Bethnal Green Free Library . The Countess will herself conduct .

BY PERMISSION of the Duke of Westminster , the seventh annual meeting of the Shaftesbury Institute Mission was held at Grosvenor House on Wednesday . Bro . the Duke of Fife occupied the chair , and was supported by Bro . Lord Kinnaird , and others . THE LORD CHANCELLOR ( Bro . Lord Herschell ) , Bro . the Right Hon . G . F . Shaw-Ltfevre , and Bro . Sir George O . Trevelyan , were among the Ministers who attended the Cabinet Council , which was held at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Downing-street , on Tuesday .

THE RIGHT HON . W . E . AND MRS . GLADSTONE , with Mrs . and Miss Drew , reached London from Hawarden on Tuesday , and embarked on board the Tantallon Castle , which sailed on the following day for Hamburg and Kiel , to be present at the opening of the Baltic Canal . AT SOTHEBY ' ROOMS on Tuesday a Second Folio Shakespeare , which some years since was sold at auction for £ 14 8 , was put up for sale among other books from the collection of the late Lord Orlord , and amid great excitement was knocked down for £ 540 , this being the highest price ever paid for a Second Folio .

THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY and Mrs . Benson entertained at dinner at Lambeth Palace , on Wednesday , the Stewards at the recent Festival of the Sons of the Clergy . Bro . the Lord Mayor , the Archbishop of York , and Bros . Sir Reginald Hanson , Bart ., M . P ., and W . E . M . Tomlinson , M . P ., being amongst the guests . BRO . The marriage of his sister , the Princesse Helene de France , with the Duke of Aosta , will be solemnised at the Roman Catholic Chapel , Kingston-on-Thames , on Tuesday , the 25 th inst ., and will be attenJei by a number of foreign Princes .

THE ANNOUNCEMENT has been made in Darlington that the Duke and Duchess of York will visit that town on Tuesday , the 25 th instant , and after receiving an address from the Corporation at the Town Hall , will proceed by railway to Raby Castle , where they will be the guests of Bro . Lord Barnard . On the following day their Royal Highnesses will pay a visit to the Royal Agricultural Society ' s show .

THE CHILDREN ' FLORAL PARADE AND FAIRY FETE was held in the grounds of the Botanic Society , Regent ' s Park , on Wednesday afternoon , among those present being their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales , the Duke and Duchess of York , the Duke and Duchess of Teck , and the Duke of Cambridge , and other members of the Royal Family . The scene was exquisitely pretty .

THE ANNUAL DINNER of the City Waiters' Provident Pension Society was held at the Cannon Street Hotel on Tuesday evening , under the presidency of Alderman and Sheriff Samuel , among the principal guests being Bro . | Sheriff Hand , Alderman Vaughan Morgan , and Bro . Lieut .-Col . G . Lambert , who is President of the Institution . Subscriptions to the amount of about £ 300 were announced in the course of the evening .

THE BRITISH SOUADRON , which will attend the opening of the Baltic Canal on the 20 th ir . st ., will consist of the Royal Sovereign ( flagship of Lord VValter Kerr , Vice-Admiral in Command ) , the Empress of India , Repulse , and Resolution , all battleships of 14 , 150 tons , with a speed of 17 or iS knots ; the Blenheim , Endymion , and Bellona cruisers ; the torpedo vessel Speedy ; the Royal Yacht Osborne , and the Admiralty Yacht Enchantress . Rear-Admiral Arthur Alington will be second in command .

H . R . H . THE PRINCE OF WALES , accompanied by the DukeofYork , visited Doveron Monday , and was on board the Britannia during its match with the Ailsa , which wm sailed on Monday under the auspices of the Royal Cinque Ports' Yacht Club . The Prince and his son returned to town after the race , which was won by the Britannia on her time allowance , and in the evening the latter , with'the Duchess of York , dined with Bro . the Karl and Countess of Lathom , at their residence in Portland-place .

THE CIVIL SERVICE annual athletic meeting was held at the Stamford Bridge Giound , on Saturday last . There was a large attendance of som : 7000 or 8000 spectators , and an excellent programme of sport , several of thj events being very keenly contested . About 5 p . m . the Duke and Du : he > s of York arrived on the sceni , and were very heartily cheered . A MEETING of all the p . incipal actors and actress : s was held in the Garrick Theatre on Saturday last , tor the purpose of concerting arrangements for the presentation of a testimonial to li ; o . Sir Henry Irving , in celebration of his having had so signal a mark of lavour conferred upon him . It was determined that ths testimonial should take the lorm of an illuminated address , to be signed only by actors and actresses , and enclosed in a gold casket . A Committee of 14 has been appointed to carry out the arrangements , while Mr . Pincro has been chosen to write the address , and Mr . G . F . Bashfor " will act as Honorary Secretary .

THE PRINCE OF WALES has already expressed his desire to ^ encourage a revival of the English silk industry , and it is hoped that he will be induced to create a revolution in gentleman ' s attire by donning those patterned silk waistcoats which were the pride of the dandy in the days of the Georges . It is stated that a Spitalfield ' s firm of silk manufacturers will shortly submit for the Prince ' s approval several exquisite specimens of these picturesque silk vestings . ;

DEATH OF A VENERABLE FREEMASON . —The death occurred at 1 , Kelston-view , Sydney-buildings , Bath , on Monday , the 27 th inst ., of Bro . Edmund White , one of the oldest citizens of Bath . Deceased , who was in business in that city for many years , had reached his 92 nd year . He was at one time a member of the Town Council , but resigned , and left Bath , taking up his residence at Weston super-Mare . He returned to Bath two years ago . He was the oldest member of the Province of Somerset , having filled the Senior Warden ' s chair 55 years ago .

THE INSTALLATION of Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl of Onslow as Provincial Grand Master for the Province of Surrey will take place at the County and Borough Hall , Guildford , on Saturday , 6 th July . ON THE 31 st ult ., at Ilford , the Masons connected with the regimental lodges shot for the two challenge gavels , presented for annual competition by Iiro . THE CIVIL SERVICE annual athletic meeting was held at the Stamford Bridge Giound , on Saturday last .
