M ., vvith a handsome Past Master ' s jewel and collar and jewel in recognition of his able services as Alaster during the past year . On the motion of Bro . Lovegrove , P . AL , a resolution was passed expressing sympathy with Mrs .

Shadwell H . Clerke in the irreparable loss of her husband , and the same vvas directed to be conveyed to her b y letter . Lodge vvas closed and a banquet followed , which vvas presided overby Bro . Kirkland , LP . AL , the W . AL having been obliged to leave owing to domestic affliction . Ihe usual loyal toasts having been disposed of , Bro . Kirkland , LP . AL , proposed "The Health of the

VV . AL , and said he vvas sorry to have to propose it under such unfavourable circumstances , for Bro . Jones , W . AL , bad the misfortune to lose his dear mother a short time ago and his wife and children vvere still ill , although progressing favourably . He was sure it vvas a great disappointment to the W . M . not to be with them . In Bro . Jones they selected a worthy brother to be W . M ,, and one with whom they had

been associated for some years . He knew the W . AL to be well up in the ritual and landmarks of the Order , and the members would not regret having elected him . He vvas but expressing the feelings of all when he said their W . M . had the sympathy of all the members , who trusted he would be long spared to be vvith them . " The Initiate " vvas next given , and responded to by Bro .

Daw , after which Bro . Lovegrove , P . M ., proposed "The LP . AL , " and said it was unusual for a brother to be in the chair on two successive installation nights . On the present occasion Bro . Kirkland appeared as LP . M ., and they wished him a successful year in that office . Bro . W . Kirkland , I . P . M ., thanked the brethren for the manner in vvhich they had received the toast . Bro . Lovegrave had told them of three distinguished brethren who

were born on the Oth February , the date on vvhich they had met , but he ( the LP . AL ) would let them into another secret , micfi was that although he had passed through his year of mice as VV . AL he had not yet seen his tenth birthday-for he was born on the 29 th February . He thanked them all most sincerely for the manner in which they had received "im and for their support and assistance during the past year .

AL , was'Treasurer for some time , and although they had made a great improvement during the past year , the LP . AL vvas the one to commence the career of success . Bro . H . Lovegrove , P . M ., Sec , responded , and referred

to the loss the Craft had sustained by the death of H . R . H . the Duke of Clarence and Col . Shadwell H . Clerke . They owed a great deal in that lodge to the late Grand Secretary , and he hoped that du ing the present Mastershio the members would cndcivuur to make the Brixton Lodge

second to none in the South of London . "The Officers" was given , and the Tyler ' s toast then closed an enjoyable evening . Bro . Arter presided at the pianoforte during the evening , and several brethren assisted in the musical programme , including Bros . Cranch , Court , and Gye .

^ Esculapius Lodge ( No . 24 io ) .-The ordinary meeting of this lodge took place at the Cafe Royal , Regentstreet , on Wednesday , the 10 th inst . impressive manner . Bros . Alontague Cheale , Frank Reid , Edward Stock Bell , and Clifford Luxmore Drew vvere passed to the Second Degree , vvhich ceremony was performed in an able way by the W . AL Bro . Surgeon-Alajor William G . Black , F . R . C . S . Ed ., ALR . C . S . Eng ., 1 ( S . C ) , vvas elected a joining member . The founder ' s jewel was approved , and much admired by the members .

Alter other tormal business had been gone through , the lodge vvas closed . In the after-dinner speech , the Worshipful Master alluded in most feeling terms to the much lamented death of the Duke of Clarence and Avondale , stating it vvas only two months ago at that festive board he alluded to the happy

event of the Prince ' s engagement to Princess Alay of Teck . The sad loss Masonry has also experienced in the untimely death of Bro . Colonel Shadwell H . Clerke , Grand Secretary , who vvas an hon . member of the / Esculapius Lodge , and who only last October consecrated the lodge in so beautiful a manner that it will for ever remain in the memory of those who vvere present , was also mentioned .

Hie installation ceremony vvas conducted by Bro . W . Hiilman , P . P . G . P ., in a most impressive manner , which contributed very much to the enjoyment of those present . The charges to the VV . AL and Wardens were given by Bro . Hobday , P . M ., and Bro . Cole , P . P . G . P ., respectively , and that to the brethren by thc Installing Alaster . 1 he brethren afterwards adjourned to banquet , after

which the toasts of "The Oueen " and " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " were proposed by the VV . M ., whe spoke in very feeling terms of the great loss the Masonic brotherhood had sustained in the death of H . R . H . the Duke of Clarence , and lie asked the brethren , as a mark of respectful sympathy , to receive these toasts in silence . The toast of "The Pro G . M ., the D . G . M ., and the rest ol the Grand Ofiicers , Present and Past , " was next proposed ,

and , in alluding to these distinguished brethren , the W . AL said he had had the privilege of attending Grand Lodge and seeing the manner in which the Pro G . AL presided , and he could assure the brethren that everything was carried out in a splendid manner and in a truly Alasonic spirit . 'Ihe toastof the P . G . M ., the Right Hon . Lord Leigh , " was next proposed by the VV . AL , who , after alluding to the affection in which his lordship was held by all the Warwickshire brethren , said he considered it a privilege that Lord

Leigh vvas still able to preside over the Provincial Grand Lodge . The toast vvas drunk vvith the utmost enthusiasm . The W . M . next proposed "The Health of Bro . J . T . Collins , D . P . G . AI ., and the rest of the P . G . Officers , Present and Past , " and said he vvas very proud to have such a distinguished array of Prov . Grand Officers at his

installation , and he considered it an honour conferred not only upon himself , but also upon the lodge . The splendid work done by these distinguished brethren would always endear them to the hearts of Warwickshire Masons , and it gave him the greatest pleasure to propose their health , especially as there were several P . P . G . Officers amongst the Past Alasters of the lodge .

This toast was replied to by Bro . Aloffatt , P . P . G . R ., and Secretary to the Board of Charity Stewards of the province . After speaking of the pleasure he had experienced during the evening both in the lodge and banqueting room , he made a strong appeal to the brethren on behalf of the forthcoming Jubilee Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and hoped they would strengthen his

hands as Charity Steward by assisting him to the best of their ability , so that the Province of Warwickshire might be worthily represented on that occasion . Bro . E . T . Pritchard , W . AL Lodge of Light , also responded , and congratulated the brethren on having elected so worthy a Alason to the Alaster ' s chair . Bro . E . A . Smith , S . W ., then gave the toast of " The

W . AL of the Forward Lodge , " and said he considered that the toast of the evening , for al ! knew what a splendid Alason he had always proved himself to be , and vvere assured that he would leave his mark upon the records of the Forward Lodge . It was within the recollection of all how well and worthily he had filled every office that had been assigned to him , and he could assure the W . M . that it was

with the utmost pride and pleasure that the brethren had elected him their W . M . The Worshipful Alaster , in reply , thanked the S . W . and brethren for the hearty manner they had drunk his health , and assured them that he would look back upon that night as one of the proudest and most eventful of his life . He impressed upon the younger brethren the necessity , if they

wished to rise in the Cralt , to make themselves perfect vvith the grand Masonic ritual , so that at any time they were called upon they would be able to take part in the ceremony . The Worshipful Alaster in very felicitous terms then proposed "The Health of the Installing Alaster and Past Alasters of the Forward Lodge , " and . said how pleased he vvas at being installed by the father of the lodire , who cave

solmuch of his time and ability for the benefit of the brethren . The impressive manner in vvhich the ceremony was performed would never bc effaced from his memory , and made him feel more than ever the responsibilities that rested upon him as VV . M . The Installing Alaster , in reply , spoke of the satisfaction it gave him to install one who had so well and worthily

worked his way up , and he could assure him of the support of each of the Past Alasters . 1 he next toast proposed by the Worshipful Master was that of " The Visitors . " He said he felt proud at having such a noble array of visitors , and he could assure them they vvere heartily welcome . Several distinguished brethren responded , includinir Bros .

Rooker , Shillcock , Clulee , who congratulated the brethren upon the happy choice they had made in their present W . M ., and also upon the splendid working they had had the privilege of witnessing in the lodge room . The toast of "The Officers" then followed , and was responded to by Bro . Stephens , J . VV ., who assured the brethren he felt proud in serving under such a W . M .

Bro . Grove , LG ., also responded , and assured the W . AL that each and every officer had made up their mind to make his year of office a happy and successful one . M ., vvith a handsome Past Master ' s jewel and collar and jewel in recognition of his able services as Alaster during the past year . On the motion of Bro . Lovegrove , P . AL , a resolution was passed expressing sympathy with Mrs .

Shadwell H . Clerke in the irreparable loss of her husband , and the same vvas directed to be conveyed to her b y letter . Lodge vvas closed and a banquet followed , which vvas presided overby Bro . Kirkland , LP . AL , the W . AL having been obliged to leave owing to domestic affliction . Ihe usual loyal toasts having been disposed of , Bro . Kirkland , LP . AL , proposed "The Health of the

VV . AL , and said he vvas sorry to have to propose it under such unfavourable circumstances , for Bro . Jones , W . AL , bad the misfortune to lose his dear mother a short time ago and his wife and children vvere still ill , although progressing favourably . He was sure it vvas a great disappointment to the W . M . not to be with them . In Bro . Jones they selected a worthy brother to be W . M ,, and one with whom they had

been associated for some years . He knew the W . AL to be well up in the ritual and landmarks of the Order , and the members would not regret having elected him . He vvas but expressing the feelings of all when he said their W . M . had the sympathy of all the members , who trusted he would be long spared to be vvith them . " The Initiate " vvas next given , and responded to by Bro .

Daw , after which Bro . Lovegrove , P . M ., proposed "The LP . AL , " and said it was unusual for a brother to be in the chair on two successive installation nights . On the present occasion Bro . Kirkland appeared as LP . M ., and they wished him a successful year in that office . Bro . W . Kirkland , I . P . M ., thanked the brethren for the manner in vvhich they had received the toast . Bro . Lovegrave had told them of three distinguished brethren who

were born on the Oth February , the date on vvhich they had met , but he ( the LP . AL ) would let them into another secret , micfi was that although he had passed through his year of mice as VV . M ., Sec , responded , and referred

to the loss the Craft had sustained by the death of H . R . H . the Duke of Clarence and Col . Shadwell H . Clerke . They owed a great deal in that lodge to the late Grand Secretary , and he hoped that du ing the present Mastershio the members would cndcivuur to make the Brixton Lodge

second to none in the South of London . "The Officers" was given , and the Tyler ' s toast then closed an enjoyable evening . Bro . Arter presided at the pianoforte during the evening , and several brethren assisted in the musical programme , including Bros . Cranch , Court , and Gye .

AL Bro . Surgeon-Alajor William G . Black , F . R . C . S . Ed ., ALR . C . S . Eng ., 1 ( S . C ) , vvas elected a joining member . The founder ' s jewel was approved , and much admired by the members .

Alter other tormal business had been gone through , the lodge vvas closed . In the after-dinner speech , the Worshipful Master alluded in most feeling terms to the much lamented death of the Duke of Clarence and Avondale , stating it vvas only two months ago at that festive board he alluded to the happy

event of the Prince ' s engagement to Princess Alay of Teck . The sad loss Masonry has also experienced in the untimely death of Bro . Colonel Shadwell H . Clerke , Grand Secretary , who vvas an hon . member of the / Esculapius Lodge , and who only last October consecrated the lodge in so beautiful a manner that it will for ever remain in the memory of those who vvere present , was also mentioned .

M ., whe spoke in very feeling terms of the great loss the Masonic brotherhood had sustained in the death of H . R . AI ., and the rest of the P . G . Officers , Present and Past , " and said he vvas very proud to have such a distinguished array of Prov . Grand Officers at his

installation , and he considered it an honour conferred not only upon himself , but also upon the lodge . The splendid work done by these distinguished brethren would always endear them to the hearts of Warwickshire Masons , and it gave him the greatest pleasure to propose their health , especially as there were several P . P . G . Officers amongst the Past Alasters of the lodge .

This toast was replied to by Bro . Aloffatt , P . P . G . R ., and Secretary to the Board of Charity Stewards of the province . After speaking of the pleasure he had experienced during the evening both in the lodge and banqueting room , he made a strong appeal to the brethren on behalf of the forthcoming Jubilee Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and hoped they would strengthen his

hands as Charity Steward by assisting him to the best of their ability , so that the Province of Warwickshire might be worthily represented on that occasion . Bro . E . T . Pritchard , W . AL Lodge of Light , also responded , and congratulated the brethren on having elected so worthy a Alason to the Alaster ' s chair . Bro . E . A . Smith , S . W ., then gave the toast of " The

W . AL of the Forward Lodge , " and said he considered that the toast of the evening , for al ! knew what a splendid Alason he had always proved himself to be , and vvere assured that he would leave his mark upon the records of the Forward Lodge . It was within the recollection of all how well and worthily he had filled every office that had been assigned to him , and he could assure the W . M . that it was

with the utmost pride and pleasure that the brethren had elected him their W . M . The Worshipful Alaster , in reply , thanked the S . W . and brethren for the hearty manner they had drunk his health , and assured them that he would look back upon that night as one of the proudest and most eventful of his life . He impressed upon the younger brethren the necessity , if they

wished to rise in the Cralt , to make themselves perfect vvith the grand Masonic ritual , so that at any time they were called upon they would be able to take part in the ceremony . The Worshipful Alaster in very felicitous terms then proposed "The Health of the Installing Alaster and Past Alasters of the Forward Lodge , " and . said how pleased he vvas at being installed by the father of the lodire , who cave

solmuch of his time and ability for the benefit of the brethren . The impressive manner in vvhich the ceremony was performed would never bc effaced from his memory , and made him feel more than ever the responsibilities that rested upon him as VV . M . The Installing Alaster , in reply , spoke of the satisfaction it gave him to install one who had so well and worthily

worked his way up , and he could assure him of the support of each of the Past Alasters . 1 he next toast proposed by the Worshipful Master was that of " The Visitors . " He said he felt proud at having such a noble array of visitors , and he could assure them they vvere heartily welcome . Several distinguished brethren responded , includinir Bros .

Rooker , Shillcock , Clulee , who congratulated the brethren upon the happy choice they had made in their present W . M ., and also upon the splendid working they had had the privilege of witnessing in the lodge room . The toast of "The Officers" then followed , and was responded to by Bro . Stephens , J . VV ., who assured the brethren he felt proud in serving under such a W . M .

Bro . Grove , LG ., also responded , and assured the W . AL that each and every officer had made up their mind to make his year of office a happy and successful one .
