AL to be entirely oxving to those brethren xvho had been sent up to thc House of Lords of Alasonry . He knexv perfectly xvell that it xvas due to thc great talents thc officers of Grand Lodge possessed . Bro . Kirk , LP . AL , proposed "The Worshipful Alaster , "
xvho , in responding for the last time in that capacity , thanked the brethren for the kind support they had given him during his year of office , both in lodge and at the banquet table . From xvhat he had seen he xvas able to say that thc brethren had appreciated his efforts on behalf of the lodge . 'This xvas his mother lodge , and he hoped to come to it as long as he lived . Bro . Kirk in responding for the " Past Alasters , " said as
his father xvas one of thc founders of thc lodge he felt a peculiar interest in thc lodge . When he arrived at the chair he felt that his Alasonic ambition x \* as gratified . Thc post of W . The Worshipful AIaster next proposed " The VV . AI . elect and thc Ofiicers . " In proposing this toast he alluded xvith regret to the Jdemisc of Bro . Aluggcridge xvho xvas passed and raised in thc Granite I-odgc . He intended to mention the circumstance when in lodge , but it slipped his memory . Bro . Swain , S . W . and VV . Gibbs , 1013 ; h . Binckes , Grand Stewards' I . odge ; K . J . Carson , 39 S S . C . ; and Cozens , 907 . The lodge having been opened the minutes of the former meeting xvcre confirmed , and a ballot took place for thc folloxving candidates for initiation : Alessrs . John Cooper , J . Kcnnerslcy Hooper , Edxvin Wesley , and Stanley Woolley Kelsey , xvhich proving unanimous and all being in attendance they xverc severally introduced and initiated into the
mysteries ot ancient rrccmasonry , the Vv . AL and his ollicers going through their xvork in a very able and correct manner . Bro . Headon then moved , pursuant to notice given at thc last lodge , " That the sum of 25 guineas be voted from thc funds of thc lodge to thc Koyal Alasonic Institution for Boys , and placed on the VV . AI , ' s list on his serving as Steward at the ensuing festival , " which xvas put and agreed to . Thc lodtrc xvas then closed and thc brethren

" The Worshipful AIaster in responding said it afforded him great gratification to meet xvith thc approbation of his lellow-membcrs xvho had placed him in his present position .
He then xvent on to advocate the claims of the Alasonic Charities , referring to thefact that he had undertaken to act as Stexvard to the forthcoming festival of the Boys' School , xvhen H . R . H . the Duke of Albany xvould preside , concluding by asking the company to drink "Success to the Alasonic Charities , " coupling thc toast xvith thc name of Bro . Binckes , Secretary to the Boys' School . Bro . Binckes replied in a long speech , in xvhich he said
he xvas taken by surprise at thc kindness of thc W . AL , for in most places , xvhether it xvas in toxvn or country , the toast he had just given xvas relegated to a late period of the evening , xvhen the tables xverc vacated b y the members . He xvas happy to be present that evening , for he knexv the Great City l ^ odge had year after year liberally supported one of the Institutions , and he believed that the support of one of them annually xvas the best course to be pursued ,
for it xvas very onerous if brethren xverc called upon txvice or thrice in one year to support thc different Institutions , If they on the other hand took them in rotation they xvould not fccUhe tax upon them , and he xvished that thc practice of the Great City l . odgc xvould be adopted by other lodges , He trusted that their Royal Chairman at thc next festival xvould be well supported . During the last year the different festivals realised £ 50 , 000 ; of that sum £ 25 , 000 fell to the
Boys School , but of that sum £ 12 , 000 xvas to be devoted to a preparatory school , and xvas funded for that purpose . That £ 12 , 000 xvould be spent in the next txvo years for a preparatory school , and it xvould require £ 3000 every year to maintain the additional number of boys . He xvas very grateful for the support the Boys' School had received for the last 25 years , for the number of boys in the School had been raised from [ 70 to 250 , and he felt a deep debt ol

gratitude to his good friends for xvhat they had done , and he xvas sure that they xvould go on in the good xvork . He appealed to the Craft for extended support , as thc first stone of the nexv school xvould be laid in August next , and in regard to this matter the Great City xvas a representative lodge of the City of London . Freemasonry , under the rule of his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , had taken
enormous strides , and it has been going on from progress to progress and from success to success , but it xvas possible that in Freemasonry as in other matters there might come a time xvhich xvould bring xvith it a reaction , and xvhat xvould then be their position . He could not shut his eyes to the responsibilities the Craft had imposed on him , for as he xvas going on in life he felt those
increased responsibilities with failing powers . The boys of the present xvould be men of the future generation , they xvere objects of their sympathy , and to his dying day he should contrive to advocate thc principles of Alasonic Charity . He had a humble notion that xvhile b y God ' s providence they possessed means for their oxvn enjoyment , that their hearts and sympathies should be extended toxvards those
xvho xvere not so fortunate as themselves . It xvas here mentioned by the VV . M . that one of their members had made an offer of £ 5 if ig others xvould do the same , to be devoted to his list , andon a paper going round a great portion of subscribers had given in their names for a like amount , xvhich it is believed xvill be fully made up at thc next meeting of thc lodge .
Thc remaining toasts included " The Visitors , " " Thc Past Alasters , " and " Thc Secretary , Bro . Blackie . " The evening xvas spent most harmoniously , the pleasures being greatly enhanced by Bro . Cozens , xvho presided at the pxaxxolortv ., and sung some choice songs , Bro . Wesley , one of the initiates also contributing to thc harmony of thc evening .

of the lodge and xvhose affability and courtesy , combined xvith a thorough knowledge of his work , xvould make his year of office a moit successful and happy one , Thc Worshipful Alaster in reply . said his utmost endeavours xvould be used to further the interests of the lodge . He knexv perfectly xvell that it xvas due to thc great talents thc officers of Grand Lodge possessed . Bro . Kirk , LP . AL , proposed "The Worshipful Alaster , "
xvho , in responding for the last time in that capacity , thanked the brethren for the kind support they had given him during his year of office , both in lodge and at the banquet table . his father xvas one of thc founders of thc lodge he felt a peculiar interest in thc lodge . When he arrived at the chair he felt that his Alasonic ambition x \* as gratified . Thc post of W .

He had a most pleasing duty to perform in proposing the toast of "The LP . AL and the Installing

AL , he on behalf of the lodge presented a handsome jexvel to mark thc approbation of thc brethren during his year of oilice ; and to Bro . Kent , P . token of their high esteem and regard , trusting that for many years to come he xvould look upon it in happy remembrance of thc pleasant hours spent amongst them . Bro . Baker , thc LP .
