Provincial Meetings.

PLUM ST SAD . Pattison Lodge ( No . 913 ) , —The election meeting of the above powerful lodge took place on Thursday , the 5 th inst ., at Freemasons' Hall , Mount Pleasant , Bro . B . de B . Std . Br . j W . Webber , W . M . 700 ; H . Gnce , W . M . 13 ; J . H . Roberts , P . M . 700 ; G . Grant , W . J . Bidgood , and J . Davidson , of 700 ; R . Smith , 1000 ; and E . Chinery , 1 S 4 . The lodge having been opened , and the minutes of the minutes of the previous meeting confirmed , the election of W . M ., Treasurer , and Tyler for the ensuing year was

proceeded with , and Bro . Col . Hughes was unanimously elected W . M ., Bro . Coupland re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . Warren Tyler . Each of the above having severally returned thanks , two Auditors were elected , and the Refreshment Committee constituted . The usual Past Master ' s jewel was unanimously voted to Bro . Lopez , and then the lodge was closed .

The brethren having partaken of supper , the usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts were honoured . "The Health of Earl Amherst , P . G . M ., " having been drunk with enthusiasm , that of "Bro . Eastes , D . P . G . M ., and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " was responded to by Bro . Hayes , who said they all knew what an excellent

Mason Earl Amherst was , and how heartily he entered into anything that was for the good ofthe province in particular , while in Bro . Eastes they had one who never seemed easy unless he was doing something in the cause of Masonry . It was an honour and a pleasure to serve under two such brethren , and he must say their lodge—the Pattisonhad been well served in the distribution of provincial

honours , and had tried to do credit to the distinction by regularly attending Provincial Grand Lodge at all its meetings . He trusted it would continue to receive the notice of his lordship and Bro . Eastes , and that as time went on other of the Past Masters would have the privilege of responding . In the name of the Provincial Grand Officers present he thanked the brethren for their hearty reception

of the toast . Bro . Penfold then proposed the toast of "The W . M ., " and said it was on his part a very cheerful duty , although not unmixed with some alloy . Bro . Lopez had been an excellent Master so far as he had had opportunities , but must in the ordinary course of affairs Masonic , whether good , bad , or indifferent , leave the chair at the end of his year of office . They had , however , a sort of " Compensation for

Disturbance " clause in the fact that he ( Bro . Lopez ) would be succeeded by such a Master as Bro . Hughes . They felt sure that in the brother chosen that night to succeed Bro . Lopez they had one who would discharge the duties of Master to his own and their satisfaction . Bro Lopez had , as he before said , done what he had to do well , and now , at the end of his year of office , they could fearlessly say of him— " Well done , thou good and faithful servant . " He asked them to drink the toast heartily .

Bro . Lopez , in response , said the attainment of the position he had occupied for the last 11 months , and which he should have to retire from at their next meeting , was the ambition of every Mason , and he quite agreed with Bro . Penfold that the brother whom they had chosen to succeed him would fully maintain the high character of the Pattison Lodge . For himself he could only say that he was

exceedingly sorry to leave the chair , yet at the same time it was an office of great responsibility and one that many might easily be forgiven for being glad to resign , especially if they resigned it , as he felt sure he did , into the h . inds of so able a successor as their esteemed Bro . Col . Hughes . He had been heartily supported during his year of office by every brother in the lodge , and that cordial

support had to a great extent relieved the onerousness of the office from his shoulders . They had overlooked his shortcomings , which no doubt were many , yet if he had by any means contributed to the success of the lodge , or the comfort or happiness of the brethren , that was his solace , while their kind and genial reception of him at all times

would ever be to him a pleasant remembrance . Our esteemed brother then resumed his seat amid great cheering . The toast of "The Visitors , " coupled with the names of Bros . Grice , Webber , and Roberts , having been eloquently responded to , that of "The Past Masters" followed , for which Bro . Cook responded .

The next toast was that of "The VV . M . elect , " and , in response , Bro . Hughes said the W . M . had him at rather a disadvantage , as he ( Bro . Lopez ) was retiring from office his work all over and done , while his ( Bro . Hughes ) was only just commencing , and in following one who represented so great a personal interest in that district they could not fairly

expect that he should be so successful or adorn the position so well as Bro . Lopez had , whose reign had been both a happy and memorable one . For himself , he joined the lodge almost at its commencement , and since then had been so deeply engaged in his own and other people ' s business that he had not had time to attend it so often as he should have liked , yet he had had its interest at heart , and had

always heard of its progress with pleasure and satisfaction . Now that state of affairs might have gone on till the end , but one night , being present in the lodge , he was asked by Bro . Butter if he would like to go on the rails again , there was an opening , andheacceptedit , andwas very thankful to think he had . He felt it a great responsibility now that he was about to fill the chair , not that he should not be able to preside

over what they were pleased to call the " Fourth Degree , " because they might trust to him for good dinners , and he ought to know what a good dinner was ; but what about the ritual ? What about him learning it at his advanced age ? He had had it repeated to him so often that he

was afraid he might be like a page boy he had heard of at a mansion in the country . At this mansion a certain bishop was staying , and the boy had it dinned into him to say to the bishop " Yes , my lord , " " No , my lord , " whenever his grace spoke to him . Well , the boy was sent to call the bishop up one morning , and told to answer , should the

bishop ask who knocked , " The boy , my lord ; " the boy , however , got so confused with these repeated drillings that when the bishop asked " Who is it ? " the boy , instead of saying as he been told , "The boy , my lord , " yelled out " The lord , my boy . " Now , he felt with regard to the ritual something like the boy , and if he slightl y reversed titles at times and called himself " P . M . " while he was only "M . P ., " and "M . P . " when he really was " P . M ., "

they must forgive him . He asked them to give him the same hearty support they had given his predecessor , and join him in the pursuit of true happiness by the practice of brotherly love , so that it might be said that his yearof office was as good and memorable a one has had ever occurred since the consecration of the Pattison Lodge . The other toasts were "The Officers" and the Tyler ' s toast , the whole of the toasts being interspersed by some excellent vocal and instrumental music .

ROCHFORD . Lodge of True Friendship ( No . 160 ) . — The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the County Court Offices , on Tuesday , the 3 rd inst ., when Bro . F . J . Wiseman was for the second time installed as W . M . for the year . The W . M . appointed the following brethren as his officers for the year : Bros . G . Wood , I . P . M . ; A .

J . Arthy , S . VV . ; G . F . Golding , J . W . j J . F . Harrington , Treas . ; H . Harper , P . M ., Sec . j W . A . Rigden , S . D . j A . J . Hobday , J . D . j A . Lucking , D . C ; W . J . Hardy , J . D . ; H . Meeson and J . Richmond , Stewards ; and A . VV . Martin , Tyler . The W . M . then very ably initiated Messrs . Leach and Armitage . After the lodge was closed , the brethren adjourned to the

Old Ship Hotel , where a sumptuous banquet was well served . The following were among the brethren present : Bros . T . J . Railing , P . A . G . D . C , Prov . Grand Secretary ; Albert Lucking , PJVI ., P . G . P ., Prov . Grand D . C . j F . J . Wiseman , G . Wood , G . F . Golding , A . J . Arthy , W . V . Willson , P . M . ; I . Ayling , P . M . ; I . F . Harrington , P . M . ; H . Harper ,

P . M . j A . J . Hobday , W . J . Hardy , H . Meeson , J . B . Kichmond , P . Richmond , G . Goodman , W . J . Taylor , J . C . Underwood , F . W . Wiseman , W . T . Massey , C . Walton , G . J . After the banquet the W . M . proposed "The Oueen and

the Craft . " In proposing " The Health of the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " the W . M . said it required but few words from him to recommend the toast . All the brethren were aware that the Prince of Wales was the most popular Grand Master England had ever seen , and that Masonry had been greatly strengthened since H . R . H . had held that office ..

The toasts of " The Pro G . M ., the Earl of Carnarvon ; the Deputy G . M ., the Earl of Lathom ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and "The Prov . G . M ., Bro . Lord Brooke , M . P ., and the Deputy P . G . M ., Bro . F . A Philbrick , Q . C , Grand Reg ., " were all enthusiastically honoured .

In proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " Bro . George Wood , the I . P . M ., said that the W . M . had always been a most excellent Mason , and had been at his work second to none . He thought the brethren might congratulate themselves that they had such a Master to preside over them . He felt certain that when his year of office had expired they would find the lodge had not suffered by being presided over

by Bro . Wiseman , but , on the contrary , they would find that it would reap the benefit by being presided over by such an old and good Mason . Bro . Wiseman , in responding , said that he could assure the brethren he felt highly complimented by being again elected to the high office he now occupied , and he would endeavour to deserve that confidence . If he had ever done

his duty he would endeavour to do it better . In proposing " The Health of the Initiates , " the VV . M . said there was a deal of good in Masonry , and expressed the hope that the newly made brethren would endeavour to rise in the Order , and at some time occupy the chair of the lodge .

Bros . Leach and Armitage responded . The other toasts were responded to , and the Tyler ' s toast brought a most enjoyable evening to a close . During the toasts songs by the W . M ., Bros . J . B . Richmond , Arthy , Brazier , Thomas , F . J . Wiseman , Hobday , Leach , and others were ably sung , and enlivened the proceedings .

Provincial Meetings.

bishop ask who knocked , " The boy , my lord ; " the boy , however , got so confused with these repeated drillings that when the bishop asked " Who is it ?

G . Wood , I . P . M . ; A .

After the lodge was closed , the brethren adjourned to the

Old Ship Hotel , where a sumptuous banquet was well served . The following were among the brethren present : Bros . T . J . Railing , P . A . G . D . C , Prov .
