ASSISTANT GRAND DIRECTORS OF CEREMONIES . Bro . Major G . C . DAVIE was initiated in Adam's Lodge , No . 158 , Sheerness , on the ist November , 1861 , and has thus been a member of our Order for up - wards of 30 years . In 1862 he joined the Alma Lodge , No . 931 , Dunedin , New Zealand , and in 1874 the Loyal Lodge , No . 254 , Barnstaple . On the 27 th December , 1882 , he was installed W . M . of the latter lodge . He has served as

Prov . S . G . Warden of Devonshire , and is its Prov . G . Secretary , while in the Royal Arch Degree , to which he was exalted in 1863 , he is a member of Loyalty and Virtue Chapter , No . 251 , and holds the office of Prov . G . Scribe E . He is also M . W . S . of the St . Swithin ' s Chapter of Rose Croix , Bideford , and a Life Governor of the Girls' and Boys' Schools , and of the Widows' Fund of the R . M . B . Institution .

Bro . HUGH MACKINTOSH , M . D ., was initiated in the Lodge of Good Fellowship , No . 276 , Chelmsford , on the 20 th February , 1864 , and has thus been connected with Freemasonry for 27 years . On the 24 th February , 1871 , he was ejected a joining member of Time Immemorial Lodge , Royal Somerset House and Inverness , No . 4 , and after representing it on the Board of Grand Stewards in 1878-9 , was elected to fill its chair in 1880 . In January , 1882 , he joined the Tuscan Lodge , No . 14 , and presided as W . M . in 1889 . He was Treasurer of the

Grand Stewards in 1879 , and is a member and Past Master of the Grand Stewards' Lodge . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in the Essex Chapter , No . 276 , on the 20 th November , 1865 , and has presided as First Principal in the British Chapter , No . 8 , in 188 7 , and was a founder and is the present M . E . Z , of the Royal Somerset House and Inverness Chapter . He is likewise a member of the Grand Metropolitan Chapter of Rose Croix , No . 1 . He is a Life Governor of both Schools , and has served as Festival Steward in their behalf , as well as for the Benevolent Institution .

Bro . J . LLOYD GRIFFITHS has won his principal Masonic distinctions in North Wales , having been initiated in the Hibernia—now the St . Cybi—Lodge , No . 597 , Holyhead , on the 5 th April , 1869 . Not long afterwards he joined the Anglesea Lodge , No . 1113 , Menai Bridge , and a few years later the St . Eleth Lodge , No . 1488 , Amlwch , and later still the Royal Leek Lodge , No . 1849 , Bangor . He has twice filled the chair of his mother lodge , namely in 1872 and 1882 , and also that of the Royal Leek in 1891 , and in recognition of the services thus rendered at different times has more than once had provincial honours

conferred upon him , having been successively appointed Prov . G . S . B . and Prov . S . G . D . of the old Province of North Wales and Shropshire , and Prov . S . G . W . of North Wales in 1888 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch under the Irish Constitution in Chapter No . 6 , Dublin , but in later years became a member of certain of our chapters , and was in due course installed M . E . Z . of the Segontium Chapter , No . 606 , Carnarvon , in March , 1888 , and of the Star of Gwynedd , No . 384 , Bangor , in November of last year . In 1889 he was appointed Prov . G . Reg . North Wales . Lastly , he has served as Festival Steward , and qualified as Life Governor of each of our Institutions .

GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . W . H . MARSDEN hails from the Province of Derbyshire , having been initiated in the senior lodge at Chesterfield—the Scarsdale , No . 681—on the loth October , 1864 . He is , therefore , a Mason of old standing as well as of high distinction . About the year 1869 he joined the Tyrian Lodge , No . 253 , Derby , and in September , 1874 , had the honour of being installed in office as its W . M . He is also a member of two other lodges in the same province , namely , the Dorothy

Vernon , No . 2129 , Bakewell , and the Ecclesburne , No . 2425 , Duffield , having been a founder in the case of one , if not of both of them . After serving as Prov . Grand Organist , he was rewarded for his services by appointment , in the first place , to the responsible office of Prov . Grand Secretary , which he held for the three years 1872-74 , and was then promoted to be Prov . Senior Grand Warden . He was exalted in the Chapter of Justice , No . 253 , Derby , on the Sth October , 1872 , and in September , 18 7 8 . He was also Organist to

Prov . G . Chapter from 18 74 to 1880 , was Prov . G . ist A . S . in 1881 , Prov . G . Scribe E . in 1883 , and Prov . G . J . in 1 S 84 . In the A . and A . Rite , he is a member and Past M . W . S . of the St . Mary Chapter , No . 63 , Derby , and has taken the 30 . In 1875 he was chosen as special Steward to represent his Province at the installation of the Prince of Wales as M . W . G . M ., and he is one of the Trustees of the Derbyshire Masonic Hall . As regards our Charities , they have one and all found

in Bro . Marsden a considerable amount of sympathy and support . He is a Vice-President of the Boys' School , for which ' he has already acted as Steward on four occasions , and his name is entered on the Board for the current year . He is a Life Governor , and has served two Stewardships for the Girls' School , the first time in 18 79 , and then at the Centenary in 1888 , while the R . M . Benevolent institution also claims him as one of its Life Governors , and has had the benefit of his services at two of its Festivals .

DEPUTY GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . HORATIO WARD is the brother who has been chosen to fill this newlycreated office , and , undoubtedly , his numerous and varied services in different spheres of duty well merit the recognition they have received . Bro . Ward entered on his career as a Mason more than 34 years ago , having been initiated in the St . Ctithburga Lodge , No . 622 , Wimborne , in the Province of Dorsetshire , on the 7 th of March , 1859 , and on the 2 nd of June , 1865 , he was installed W . M . In the

latter year he joined the Ehas de Derham Lodge , No . 586 , Salisbury , in the Province of Wiltshire , and presided as W . M . during the years 1870 and 1871 . In 1 SO 6—the year of its constitution—he presided as W . M . over the Vale of Avonnow the Shirley Lodge , No . 1112 , which then met at Fordingbridge ; and 10 years l . iier he joined the United Industrious Lodge , No . 31 , Canterbury , and was W . M . in 18 S 3 . Thus , in his Masonic wanderings , Bro . Ward has done duty in four . Provinces , and he has the satisfaction of knowing that what he has done has been

recognised firstly by his appointment as Prov . J . G . W . of Wiltshire in 1872 , and secondly , by his receiving the same distinction at the hands of the Provincial Grand Master of Kent in 1885 . His experiences in connection with Royal Arch Masonry have been of a similar character . He was exalted in the Chapter of Amity , No . 137 , Poole , on the 9 th of January , 186 3 , and having joined the St . Cmhberga Chapter , No . 622 , was , in 1868 , installed M . E . Z . He is now its senior P . Z ., and was , in 1887 , appointed Prov . G . Scribe N . He occupied the chair of

First Principal in the Elias de Derham Chapter , No . 586 , Salisbury , in 1871 , and was installed Prov . Grand Second Principal H . of Wiltshire in 1876 ; and since then he has been installed twice as M . E . Z . of the St . Michael ' s Chapter , No . 1273 , Sittingbourne , and was founder and first Z . of the St . George ' s Chapter , No . 2099 , Heme Bay , in 188 9 . For these services the Grand Superintendent of Kent ' conferred upon him the office of Prov . G . J . In the Mark Degree , Bro . Ward is a

P . M . of St . Martin ' s Lodge , No . 262 , Canterbury , Past Prov . S . G . W . of Kent , and Past J . G . Deacon of England . In the Order of the Temple , he is P . E . P . and Registrar of the Black Prince Preceptory , Canterbury , and Past G . S . B . of England ; while in the A . and A . Rite he has taken the 3 i ° , andis Past M . W . S . and Treasurer of the Ethelbert Rose Croix Chapter , No . 82 , Canterbury . Lastly , he is a Life Governor of both Schools , and has seived one Stewardship for each of them , and is a Life Governor and thrice Steward for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution .

GRAND STANDARD BEARERS . 1 Bro . A . C . SPAULL , who is one of the most popular and at the same time one t , f tin * most distinguished members of the Fraternity in Shropshire , was initiated 'in ihe Lodge of St . Oswald , No . 112 , * , Oswestry , on the 17 th July , 1876 , and in December , 1883 , was installed in its chair as Master . In 1878 he became a founder

and served as one of the first Wardens of the Lodge of Progress , and two years later was elected and installed W . M . As a Royal Arch Mason , he was exalted in the Royal Union Chapter , No . 382 , Uxbridge , and in May , 1885 , acceded to office as First Principal . He is likewise a Past Prov . Grand Officer in both of these branches of Masonry , having been appointed Prov . Grand Registrar of the late Prov . Grand Lodge of North Wales and Shropshire in 1881 , and Prov . Grand

Scribe N . of the Prov . Grand Chapter of Middlesex in 1889 . He is well known among Hertfordshire Masons , and has been elected honorary member of more than one of their lodges in recognition of services he has rendered from time to time . But excellent as is the work he has accomplished in connection with lodge and chapter in London and in the Provinces , what he has done in behalf of our Insti . tutions is still more to his credit . He is a Vice-Patron jof the Girls' School , for

which he has served seven Stewardships , and it is only the other day that he was elected to succeed the late Bro . Moon as a member of its House Committee . He was a member of the Provisional Committee of Management during the reorganisation of the Boys' School , and has since been a member of its Board of Management , in addition to which he is a Vice-President and has thrice acted as Steward

in its behalf , while he is a Life Governor of , and has been . twice Steward for , the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . It should be added that Bro . Spaull was Vice President of the Executive Committee for the Girls' Centenary Festival , and was most warmly thanked for the very valuable assistance he rendered in that capacity in promoting the success of that important gathering .

Bro . ROBERT WILLOUGHDY was initiated in the Mount Lebanon Lodge , No . 73 , on the 16 th March , 1875 , and in January , 1883 , was installed W . M . He joined the Globe Lodge in January , 1885 , served as Grand Steward in 1891-2 , and was installed W . M . on the 21 st January , 1892 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch

Degree in Mount Lebanon Chapter , No . 73 , . on nth April , 1873 , and in 1886 was installed M . E . Z . He is likewise a P . Z . of the Mount Edgcumbe Chapter , No . 1446 . He is a Vice-Patron of the three Institutions , and when he has fulfilled his intention of acting as Steward at the Festival next month of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , will have served twice in that capacity for each .

GRAND ORGANIST . Bro . W . DE MANBY SERGISON , who was initiated while an undergraduate of Worcester College in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in 18 75 , has been chosen to succeed Bro . Cutler , Q . C , as Grand Organist . He joined the

Westminster and Keystone Lodge , No . 10 , in 1881 , and the Friends-in-Council , No . 1383 , in 1885 , and in 1891 was installed W . M . of the latter lodge . He was exalted in the Friends-in-Council Chapter on the nth February , 1886 , and is its Third Principal for the current year . He has served as Steward for , and is Life Governor of , the Boys' School and Benevolent Institution .

GRAND PURSUIVANT . Bro . THOMAS MINSTRELL , whose career we sketched last year when he received the appointment of Assistant Grand Pursuivant , has been promoted to this office .

ASSISTANT GRAND PURSUIVANT . Bro . CHARLES J . R . TIJOU was initiated in the Coborn Lodge , No . 1804 , on the 13 th March , 18 79 , and installed its W . M . on the nth February , 1886 . He is also a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted to that Degree in All Saints ' Chapter , No . 1716 , on the 3 rd January 1880 . He is . an active worker in the

Charitable Institutions , and has been a regular attendant at the Board of Benevolenee , where his extensive knowledge of East London has been of advantage to the Board . He has served once as Steward for , and is Life Governor of , the Boys' School and Benevolent Institution , and has also made his wife and son Life Governors of the former Charity .

Grand Officer in both of these branches of Masonry , having been appointed Prov . Grand Registrar of the late Prov . Grand Lodge of North Wales and Shropshire in 1881 , and Prov . Grand

Scribe N . of the Prov . Grand Chapter of Middlesex in 1889 . He is well known among Hertfordshire Masons , and has been elected honorary member of more than one of their lodges in recognition of services he has rendered from time to time . But excellent as is the work he has accomplished in connection with lodge and chapter in London and in the Provinces , what he has done in behalf of our Insti . tutions is still more to his credit . He is a Vice-Patron jof the Girls' School , for

which he has served seven Stewardships , and it is only the other day that he was elected to succeed the late Bro . Moon as a member of its House Committee . He was a member of the Provisional Committee of Management during the reorganisation of the Boys' School , and has since been a member of its Board of Management , in addition to which he is a Vice-President and has thrice acted as Steward

in its behalf , while he is a Life Governor of , and has been . twice Steward for , the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . It should be added that Bro . Spaull was Vice President of the Executive Committee for the Girls' Centenary Festival , and was most warmly thanked for the very valuable assistance he rendered in that capacity in promoting the success of that important gathering .

Bro . ROBERT WILLOUGHDY was initiated in the Mount Lebanon Lodge , No . 73 , on the 16 th March , 1875 , and in January , 1883 , was installed W . M . He joined the Globe Lodge in January , 1885 , served as Grand Steward in 1891-2 , and was installed W . M . on the 21 st January , 1892 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch

Degree in Mount Lebanon Chapter , No . 73 , . on nth April , 1873 , and in 1886 was installed M . E . Z . He is likewise a P . Z . of the Mount Edgcumbe Chapter , No . 1446 . He is a Vice-Patron of the three Institutions , and when he has fulfilled his intention of acting as Steward at the Festival next month of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , will have served twice in that capacity for each .

GRAND ORGANIST . Bro . W . DE MANBY SERGISON , who was initiated while an undergraduate of Worcester College in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in 18 75 , has been chosen to succeed Bro . Cutler , Q . C , as Grand Organist . He joined the

Westminster and Keystone Lodge , No . 10 , in 1881 , and the Friends-in-Council , No . 1383 , in 1885 , and in 1891 was installed W . M . of the latter lodge . He was exalted in the Friends-in-Council Chapter on the nth February , 1886 , and is its Third Principal for the current year . He has served as Steward for , and is Life Governor of , the Boys' School and Benevolent Institution .

GRAND PURSUIVANT . Bro . THOMAS MINSTRELL , whose career we sketched last year when he received the appointment of Assistant Grand Pursuivant , has been promoted to this office .

ASSISTANT GRAND PURSUIVANT . Bro . CHARLES J . R . TIJOU was initiated in the Coborn Lodge , No . 1804 , on the 13 th March , 18 79 , and installed its W . M . on the nth February , 1886 . He is also a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted to that Degree in All Saints ' Chapter , No . 1716 , on the 3 rd January 1880 . He is . an active worker in the

Charitable Institutions , and has been a regular attendant at the Board of Benevolenee , where his extensive knowledge of East London has been of advantage to the Board . He has served once as Steward for , and is Life Governor of , the Boys' School and Benevolent Institution , and has also made his wife and son Life Governors of the former Charity .
