of "The I . P . M . " " The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary , " was proposed by the Worshipful Master , duly honoured , and responded to . The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Health of the Visitors , " coupling the toast with the names of Bros . Davies , W . M . 1901 j Stone , J . D . 507 J and I . N . Calloway ,
J . VV . 2310 . Bro . Davies thanked the W . M . for the flattering manner in which he had spoken of the Selwyn Lodge , and for the instruction and entertainment he had enjoyed that evening . Bro . Stone thanked the VV . M . for his kindly welcome . He had seen him work some of the ceremonies before , but had never seen him preside at a regular lodge until that evening . The clearness and distinctness vvith which the
W . M . had given every word of the Three Degrees , and the able and impressive manner in which he had delivered the charge and lecture in the Second Degree , was equal to any thing he had heard in any of the lodges , and the able manner in which he had presided at the banquet proved that his genial good fellowship in his own lodge vvas only equalled by the literary reputation he vvas estabfishing in the outer Masonic world .
Bro . Calloway , as J . VV . of No . 2310 , vvas delighted to see an old and well known London Scottish man , and Bro . Sergeant , so worthily filling the chair of the New Cross Lodge . As the W . M . had observed they had stood " shoulder to shoulder " through many a hard day's labour in the past , when the refreshment vvas of a very different character to that which they had just enjoyed . In those days he never anticipated seeing him as a ruler in the Craft , and he heartily
joined with the other visitors in thanking the W . M . and brethren of the New Cross Lodge for the hospitality they had enjoyed . The Worshipful Master , in proposing " The Health of the Officers , " thanked them for their assistance , and congratulated Bro . Meyer , a Past Warden , on his return from South Africa j and the Tyler ' s toast closed the meeting in the usual manner .
lhe evening was enlivened by the vocal abilities of Bros . Grassi , Meyer , Tinelli , Meffan , and Stone . The speeches were short , sharp , and effective , and as time and trains wait for no man , the brethren for the VVest departed with their usual punctuality and vvith their usual regularity . The
musical compartment vvas crowded , the overflow of harmony being kept up until the end of the journey , and the departure of the VV . M . at London Bridge vvas the signal for a cheer , which somewhat surprised the officials of that staid , wellregulated , but very dingy emporium of discomforts .
Aldersgate Lodge ( No . 1657 ) . —The regular meeting of the above lodge was held on Monday , the 20 th inst ., at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street . The W . M ., Bro . A . B . Hudson , C . C , vvas supported by the following officers and brethren : Bros . Alderman J . Renals , I . P . M . j

Allan Culross , which proving unanimous , Bro . Vernon vvas duly elected a joining-member , and Mr . Allan Culross vvas initiated . The W . M . said he regretted that he had to speak upon a very
melancholy subject . Last July he received a communication from H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , the Most Worshipful Grand Master , commanding him to place the lodge in mourning for six months , that they might show a mark of respect to that great and good man the Most Worshi pful the Pro Grand Master , the late Earl of Carnarvon , but the emblems of mourning upon their badges that evening were
there for a double duty , first for that great loss to Freemasonry in general , and secondly for the loss to that lodge in particular , for since their last meeting their hi ghly respected Bro . John Parsons had passed away . He vvas one of the founders of the lodge , and one of the trustees of the lodge Benevolent Fund . When the sad intelligence reached the W . M . he sent a wreath to be placed upon the
coffin in the name of the brethren of the lodge . He attended the funeral , and as he stood by the graveside upon that memorable Saturday afternoon and saw the hundreds of uncovered heads , many of them powdered vvith the dust of age , he learnt that Bro . Parsons was very widely known and highly respected . Those who knew him in Masonry respected him , but those who knew him more intimately
admired him , for he vvas a good man and a good Mason . The W . M . said he would not speak upon that subject at any length , because the days of mourning for Bro . Parsons were over . He had passed within the veil , the water of Joidan had lapped his tired feet , he vvas now able to behold the glories of the morning , and his joys were as durable as the everlasting hills . Bros . " He said it was to him a great pleasure to propose the health of his first initiate since he came into office , ancl , now tbat the task was over , he vvas delighted to extend a right hearty welcome to Bro . Culross , for the step he had taken marked a red-letter day in his life . He had commenced to tread that wide and well-worn path that many high and
distinguished Masons had trod before him , and because he had that evening associated himself vvith an ancient and honourable fraternity . He vvas sure if Bro . Culross would carry out the teaching of Freemasonry in the spirit they were intended , he could not possibly fail to highly appreciate the Craft . He hoped he would be able to look back upon the ceremony that evening and think of it as one of the brightest
and happy times of the many he hoped it would be his privilege to remember . Thelnitiate replied in a neat and appropriate speech . Prov . G . Sec , who in June last consecrated the lodge . In his remarks he said : It being the first time Bro . Although Bro . He had discharged his duties in a most exemplary manner in every minor office he had occupied in the lodge , and as its Master his working had been most satisfactory . Of his personal liberality the brethren had had on more than one occasion ample proof . The Worshipful Master , in reply , briefly said that he had
endeavoured to do his duty , nothing more . He thought that as the lodge had honoured him by electing him Master , it vvas obligatory upon him to show how he appreciated their kindness . With icgard to the working , he vvas one of those who believed that no brother should accept the position of Master unless prepared to carry out its responsibilities . Bro . Whitehead responded on behalf of " The Visitors " in a neat speech .

Although Bro . presence at their regular meeting . These remarks were augmented by Bros . C E . Tovvell , S . W . j John Fletcher , J . W . j and E . L . Littler , P . M ., P . P . A . G . P . Bro . uppn the success that had thus far attended his year of office .
Bro .
