Jackson , M . A ., was passed . Bro . Jackson was one of the oldest members of the lodge , and though in his S 5 th year , and residing ten miles from Selby , rarely missed the duties of his lodge , and at the time of his lamented death

had accepted the collar of Chaplain for the ensuing yt-ar . On the completion of the private business of the lodge , the W . D . P . G . M ., Bro . the Hon . W . T . P . M . S 02 . The minutes of the last regular lodge having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken for the W . M . for the ensuing year , and resulted in favour of Bro . A . Woodiwiss , S . W ., who heartily thanked the brethren for the honour conferred upon him . Bro . W . Whittaker , P . M ., was reelected treasurer , and Bro . T . Day , Tyler . The circular

issued by the Pro G'and Master having been read , the lodge agreed to respond in its favour . The W-M . then , in a most able manner , closed his year of Masonic work by raising Bro . Francis R . Booty to the Sublime Degree , being ably assisted by his Deacons . " Hearty good wishes" were given from Nos . 353 , S 02 , 815 , 1085 , and Prov . G . Lodge . Nothing fuither offering , the lodge was

closed , and the brethren adjourned to refreshment . A number of the brethren afterwards met in the lower hall for supp-r , where an excellent spread was provided by the W . M . and his Tyler and hall-keeper , Bro . T . Day , to which ample justice was done , and thanks returned . The W . M . gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts . To that of "The Prov . G . Lodge" were coupled the

names of Bro . Ihomas Cox , P . M . 253 , P . G . treasurer , and Bro . C . Webster , P . M . 731 , P . S . G . D ., who suitably and briefly replied . The S . W ., on rising to propose the next toast , was received with hearty applause . He said in giving you the last toast the W . M . remarked that they were getting nearer home , but now they were getting still nearer , as

the one he was about to propose was that of "Their W . M ., " and he was quite sure they would have much pleasure in drinking it , seeing it was the last night he would be at their head . They had all been pleased to work under him during the twelve months , and were indeed sorry they could not be guided by him for another year . All had been delighted with the able manner in which he had

presided over them , both upstairs and down , and also with the way in which he had done his work . The gatherings had been larger , on an average , than ever known before , and that he considered was largely owing to the respect in which he was held by the brethren in that and other lodges . He concluded by proposing " The Health of the W . M . " Song— " The old brigade "—Bro . J . Melrose .

The Worshipful Master , in responding , thanked all very heartily for the sympathy shown to him . It puzzled him to say all the good things in reply he could have wished . He believed all the S . W . had said was sincertly meant . He could say the year had been a very happy one , and now that it was his last night , he felt regret at retiring from their head . He again begged to thank them for the

flattering way in which the toast had been given and received . The Worshipful Master again rose to propose the toast of "The W . M . Elect , Bro . Woodiwiss . " He said that when the W . M . elect so kindly proposed the last toast , he alluded to the fact of its being the last night in their Masonic vear . He was certainly even then looking forward

to the next month , when he should have the greatest pleasure in installing his successor , who was so worthy to fill the chair . He had done all he possibly could in the other offices he had been called upon to fill , and had attended the Iodge most regularly , and he was quite sure all the brethren would well support the incoming W . M ., and make his a better year than any which had gone before .

Song— "Sally in our alley "—Bro . J . W . Brigg . The Worshipful Master elect said he cmild heartily thank them for the kind manner in which the toast had been proposed and received . He scarcely thought a special toast would have been accorded him , or he would not have said so much when speaking before . He could say , however , he should be proud to be their W . M ., and that had

certainly been his great ambition evetfsmce he started in the lodge , and he had determined not to rest until he had attained it . He had always tried to do his work well at every post , and the duties he seemed to find easier as he progressed , and a good deal of this he owed to the lodge of instruction . _ He concluded by hoping all would help him to meet with success during his year , and especially

that they would come in large numbers next month . The Worshipful Master then gave the toast of " The Past Masters , " and said he felt he must give it himself for the last time . He was very thankful they always had a good attendance of them , as could be seen by reference to the Tyler ' s book . He also believed that to be the reason the lodge prospered so well , and he hoped they would

never lose their interest in the lodge . Bro . G . T . Wright , P . M ., P . P . S . G . W ., in responding , said he was sure the Past Masters were all proud of their lodge ; he regretted his inability to be present at the previous meeting , but could assure the brethren it was owing to his visiting on that night the Scarsdale Lodge , Chesterfield , who had voted him the handsome sum of 25

guineas towards his list for the Benevolent Institution . He congratulated the W . M . on his successful year of office , and hoped his successor might have one as pleasant . Bro . C . Webster , P . M ., P . S . G . D ., also replied . Bro . T . R . Gee , P . M ., proposed " The Visitors , " saying he did it with pleasure , as they were always so pleased to see visitors amongst them ; he quite agreed that visiting

was good in every way , and was to be encouraged . Song— "Bowling Green Chorus" —Bro . G . T . Wright , P . M . * Bros . J . H . Richardson , W . M . 1085 ; J . Parker , S 15 ; and A . Fox , 353 , briefly responded for the visitors , paying a high compliment to the W . M . and officers for the manner in which the work had been done , hoping all would honour

them vvith a return visit at their respective lodges . The Worshipful Master then gave the toast of "The Officers , " taking occasion to thank all for the good support they had given him during the year , hoping also that the incoming W . M . would be as well supported . Song— " Tell me , Mary " —Bro . VV . L . Todd . Bro . J . Jones , I . G ., in responding , could assure the W . M . that one desire animated them all , which was to do

their duty , and they had striven to do it well . Bro . J . Chadwick , Secretary , also suitably responded . Song— "The new cottage" —Bro . J . Maxey . The Tyler ' s toast shortly afterwards brought another agreeable evening to a close . It should be mentioned that during the evening the W . M . sent round his list for the Benevolent Institution , to which anniversary he goes as Steward , resulting in £ 17 5 s . being added to the list already obtained .

WIGAN . —Lindsay Lodge ( No . 1335 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst ., at the Masonic Hall , King-street . Present : Bros . R . B . Seddon , W . M . ; J . Tomlinson , Leyland , and Israel Knowks as joining members , and in each case the ballot was unanimous . Bro . W . Johnson , P . M ., then took the chair , and raised Bro . Cockson to the Degree of a M . M ., Bro . J . D . Murray acting as Deacon . Bro . Murray then took the chair , and duly raised Bros . Monks and Buchanan to the Degree of M . M ., Bro . Johnson acting as Deacon . Bro . Rogers ,

under the Deaconship of Bro . Murray , was duly passed to the Degree of F . C . Mr . William Woods was proposed as a candidate . " Hearty good wishes" were then tendered by the visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed , after fully two hours of good hard work . The usual adjournment to the ante room was by most of those who had been in the lodge very acceptable .

MARLBOROUGH . —Lodge of Loyalty ( No . 1533 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday , the 8 th inst ., when there were present Bros . E . B . Merriman , W . M . ; the Rev . John A . Lloyd , P . M ., Chap ., acting as l . P . M . ; F . A . Brooks-Hill , S . W . ;

The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , Mr . F . J . Leader was balloted for and elected . The Pro Grand Master ' s communication was then discussed , and , as befits the name of the lodge , unanimously agreed to on the following grounds : ( 1 ) That it did not commit the lodge as a lodge to subscribe to anything outside Masonry , but that even if it did , it was no new thing for Masons to

do , as witness the lodge s gifts to Bath Abbey and other works ; that at provincial meetings the alms was usually given to some local hospital ; that Masons have given to lifeboats , & c . ( 2 ) That the building was to be a nation one , commemorating a joyful event which could never happen again in the lifetime of any living Mason , and would largely employ operative Masons . ( 3 ) That the

members of the lodge were loyal to their chief , who had done so much for Masonry , and welcomed the chance of showing their loyalty ; and ( 4 ) that our Great Charities were not overlooked in the scheme . Letters of regret for non-attendance were read by the Secretary from Bro . Surgeon-General T . Ringer , P . M ., and others . There being no further business , the lodge was closed .

PLUMSTEAD . —United Military Lodge ( No . ' 536 ) - —Bro . W . Maule , W . M . of this lodge , might well be , and was , proud of the large and influential body of Masons who attended the lodge on Friday , the 1 ith inst .,

at the Lord Raglan Hotel , Burrage-road , to hear him and his excellent officers do the work before them . There was but one Degree to be done , but it was done splend dly , and fully repaid those who attended by its precision and exactness , as well as by its impressive and eloquent rendering . The lodge having been opened in due form , and the minutes confirmed , two brethren were raised to the

Sublime Degree . Ten guineas was then voted to Bro . G . Kennedy ' s li ^ t for the Girls ' , he standing Steward for that Institution at the forthcoming Festival ; and it was resolved that a ball should be promoted to celebrate her Majesty's Jubilee year , the proceeds to be devoted to the Charities . The lodge was then closed , and , after partaking of a

neat little supper , the brethren re-assembled round the social board and drank the loyal and Masonic toasts with all that heartiness that is so truly Masonic and military . Bros . Penfold and Shaw responded for " The Prov . G . Officers of Kent , " and the W . M . received an ovation when the toast of his health was drunk . Bro . Jolly , W . M . 1472 , who is an honorary member of

the lodge , was heartily welcomed back after a long and unavoidable absence through illness ; and his health was drunk most heartily , for which he suitably returned thanks . FELTHAM . —Elliot Lodge ' ( No . 1567 ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held at the Railway Tavern on Saturday , the 5 th inst ., for the double purpose of considering the circular of the R . W . Pro Grand Master , the Earl of Carnarvon , as to the best manner of celebrating the Jubilee year of her Majesty the Queen , and to initiate into the mysteries of Freemasonsy Mr . W . H . W . Mason . son

of Bro . John Mason , P . M ., P . Z ., P . P . S . G . D . Middx ., founder of the Iodge , and well-known throughout the Craft as the energetic advo ; ate of , and collector , to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . The lodge was opened at 3 p . m . by ihe W . M ., Bro . Isaac Dixon , supported by Bros . T . I . Bird , l . P . M . ; Dillon , S . W . ; W . A . Brown , S . D ., acting J . W . in the unavoidable absence of Bro . Millin , who

is suffering from an attack of gout ; J . Mason , Secretary ; Cooper , J . D . ; Dockrill , I . G . ; Taylor and Brougham , Stwds . ; Branch , Org . ; and a large number of members and visitors . Mason , who was proposed by his father and seconded by Bro . T . I . Bird , I . P . M ., at the meeting in November , which proved unanimous in his favour . The W . M . then

vacated the chair in favour of Bro . John Mason , who proceeded with , and carried out , the initiation of his son in the masterly and impressive manner he is wont to use when his heart warms with his subject , and which earned for him the congratulations of the assembled brethren , as well as making a deep impression on the candidate . Bro . Dixon then resumed the chair , and closed the lodge in due form .

After a short adjournment the brethren assembled at the banquet table , and in due time the Worshipful Master rose to propose the toast of " Her Majesty the Queen and the Craft , " dwelling especially upon the fact ot this being the Jubilee year . "The M . W . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " was toasted with all honours . "The Prov . G . M ., Bro . Sir F . Burdett , the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and the rest of the Prov .

Grand Officers " followed in regular course . Bro . T . I . Bird , P . P . G . Swd . Br . Middx ., responded for the last toast , and immediately proposed " The Health of the W . M ., Bro . Isaac Dixon , " as a brother loved and respected by all , and one whom the brethren were all deli ghted to see ruling over them . The toast was responded to by the assembled brethren with great heartiness .

The Worshipful Master replied briefly and modestly , passing on to the toast of the evening , "The Initiate . " He said that initiates , provided they were good and true men , were always welcome to a W . M ., but when an initiate was the son of so highly esteemed a brother as John Mason , the father and founder of the lodge , all would admit that he was doubly welcome , and he ( the W . M . ) was delighted

that the initiation should have taken place in his year of office . He congratulated the . son on his good fortune in having been initiated by a Master so well versed in the ceremony as his worthy father , and expressed a fervent hope that he would follow in his father ' s steps , assuring him that if he did , a bright and happy Masonic career was open to him .

Bro . Mason , jun ., responded modestly , thanking the brethren for receiving him for his father ' s sake as they had done , and saying that although unlike any brother in the room ( his father excepted ) , he had the good fortune to be born a "Master Mason , " it was not until he arrived at the dignity of being a plain "Mr . Mason" that the golden gate of the Craft was opened to receive him . He would

use his utmost endeavours to follow the advice of the W . M . in all he had said that day . " The Visitors " were duly honoured , several responding and congratulating the lodge on their initiate , and expressing admiration of the working in lodge , as well as of the hospitality of the board . "The Past Masters" were toastedBrosBird and

, . Mason responding , the latter expressing his appreciation of the kindness of the W . M . in permitting him to initiate his son , and of the brethren for receiving him as they had . It was a great happiness to him to have enrolled his son as a member of the Fraternity in the Elliot Lodge " The Wardens , " " The Charities , " and " The Officers " were duly proposed and responded to .
