CHESTER . —Cestrian Lodge ( No . 425)—This lod ge held its annual Festival of St . An unusually large number of Provincial Officers , Past Masters , and biethren generally were present at this interesting

ceremony ; and if the congratulations and " Hearty good wishes" which vvere expressed on all sides are but half realised , Bro . Cuzner's year of office will be a happy and Prosperous one indeed . P . PJ . G . W . Lanes . ; Robert Lewis Andrew , VV . M . 12 S 9 ; T . Knowles , P . M . 721 ; Stanhope Bull , 324 ; F . A . Walker Jone ? , P . P . G . S . B . ; T . Thorburn , P . M . 477 ; E . Young ; William Shone , P . M . 425 ; Sam . Smith , Town Clerk ; VVm . Hughes , P . M . 721 ; K . C Drury , and others . Prior to the lodge being closed , the VV . M . proposed a vote of thanks to G . F . Clough , Esq ., of Boughton House ,

for his presentation to the lodge of a portrait in oil of an old and distinguished Freemason in the person of Bro . Edward Orme , a former Organist of Chester Cathedral . In seconding the proposition , Bro . J . C . Robinson , who had been most indefatigable in tracing out the history of Bro . Orme , gave some interesting details connected with the matter . He said that Bro . Orme vvas probably working

Master in 1737 of the old Royal Chester Lodge , of which the Cestrian Lodge vvas the direct heir and successor . It was certain that be vvas Master in 1742 , and vvas re-elected to that office for 20 years , and on several occasions in subsequent years he was again re-elected . He was also Deputy Prov . Grand Master of the Prov . Grand Lodge ot Chester , which is the oldest Prov . Grand Lodge in

the world . He carried out the duties of Dep . Prov . G . M . for 30 years , during the time that Alderman John Page and the Hon . John Smith Barry were the P . G . M ' s . He seemed to be a very genial and hospitable character , for on many occasions lodge was summoned to meet at his house in Northgate-street , and these occasions do not seem to have been purely convivial , because candidates were admitted to

the different Degrees of Freemasonry , and it was at his house that Mr . Robert Salisbury Cotton vvas initiated , who subsequently became P . G . M ., and was father of Lord Combermere , who was also P . G . M . The Earl of Cholmondeley and Mr . John Crewe , of Bolesworth , amongst other eminent men , vvere also initiated in the same house . He vvas Sheriff of Chester during the year that Sir Watkin Wynn was

Mayor , and he continued an active member of the lodge until the time of his death , in the year 1777 . He vvas buried in Chester Cathedral . He was Deputy Herald of Arms and Organist of Chester Cathedral , and it was rather a curious coincidence that his portrait should be presented on a night when another old and worthy official of the Cathedral ( Bro . Cuzner ) was installed in the W . M . 's chair .

The sympathy of the brethren and a vote of condolence vvas ordered to be conveyed to the relatives of Bro . Hunt , an old and respected P . M ., lately deceased . Abjut 70 brethren afterwards sat down to a sumptuous repast , catered by Messrs . Bolland and Sons , under the management of Bro . White . Bro . Newhouse , Prov . G . Sec , having to depart in

order to catch a train ere the repast vvas ended , the VV . M . apologised for an irregularity in proposing that gentleman ' s health at that stage ot the proceedings , and took the opportunity of thanking him for his presence on that occasion , which he believed vvas his first visit ; and more especially that it happened to be paid on the night of his ( the W . M . 's ) installation . He recognised the honour done to the lodge ,

and wished to offer Bro . Newhouse their hearty congratulations upon his recent appointment , and to wish him a long period of success in his office . Bro . Newhouse , in thanking them for the cordial reception of the toast , said it vvas the wish of the Prov . G . M . that he should pay a visit to all the lodges in the province , and he was endeavouring to carry out that wish . The

Cestrian Lodge needed no commendation lrom him , but he might say that the only thing which he could enter in his official memorandum vvould be " excellently good . " They had a splendid array of Past Masters , and he must speak especially of the Installing Masters , for with one exception he had never heard the installation ceremony rendered with such excellence as it had been that evening . He

hoped to make future visits , and , referring to some lodges that he had visited where they had never seen the " purple , " wished that more of the provincial officers vvould accompany him in the visits which it would be his duty to make . The Chairman next gave the toast of " Her Majesty the Queen and the Craft , " also " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M . of England ; the Pro G . M ., and the rest of

the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and in doing so referred to the absence of Bro . | udge Horatio Lloyd , who had been detained by his official duties , and had telegraphed his inability to be present on that account . The next toast from the chair was that of "The R . W . Prov . G . M ., Lord Egerton of Tatton ; the R . W . D . P . G . M ., Bro . Judge Lloyd ; and the rest of the Prov . G . Officers ,

Present and Past , " to which Bro . Woodhead responded . "The Visiting Brethren , " proposed by Bro . Sheriff Roberts , J . W ., vvas responded to by Bros . W . C . Deeley , Rev . Canon Morris , W . M . 721 ; and the W . M . of Zetland Lodge , 537 . The I . P . M ., Bro . Alfred Parkes , feelingly proposed "The Health of the new VV . M ., " which was drunk with

the utmost enthusiasm , and happily responded to by Bro . Cuzner , who , in sympathetic terms , referred to the illness of the S . W . as the cause which had led to his selection as W . M ., and desiring for Bro . Seller a speedy recovery , a wish reciprocated on all hands . " The Installing Masters , Bros . Parkes and Williams , " were next toasted , and afterwards " The Officers of the

lodge , " responded to by the J . W ., J . D ., and l . G . " The Junior Members of the Lodge" fell to the lot of Bros . A . Paris and Warmsley to respond to , and " The Masonic Charities , " acknowledged by Bro . Lisle , and the Tyler ' s toast concluded the list . The proceedings vvere diversified with songs , dutts , & c , by Bros . Humphreys , Myatt , Robinson , and F . A . Walker-Jones ; Mr . R . Thomas accompanying on the pianoforte ,

of the ceremony being conducted in such an excellent manner as to call forth a very hearty vote of thanks to Bro . Hopkins . The newly-installed W . M . appointed and invested the officers of the lodge for the ensuing year as follows : Bros . T . C . Hopkins , I . P . M . ; H . J . Johnson , S . W . ; F . Sloper , J . W . ; Rev . VV . The Worshipful Master , in response , regretted that he had nut had more work to do , but hoped on the occasion of their next meeting to have the Three Degrees to work . He hoped to be as well supported then as he had been that night , and had no doubt that the name of the lodge would not be tarnished by inability on his or the part of the officers . He cordially thanked them for the hearty

reception of the toast . Bio . Butt , in responding for the "Past Masters , " said the W . M . had said a good deal in favour of the Past Masters , and he , Bro . Butt , hoped that it vvas merited . He vvas certain that it was so so far as Bro . Warren vvas concerned . For himself he could only say that his services were always at the disposal of the W . M . and the brethren ,

and having said that he would leave Bro . Roberts to respond for himself . Bro . Roberts said he had been many years connected with the Iodge , and it vvas his proud boast that he had never been absent from one of its meetings since he vvas initiated , that showed , at least , that he had the welfare of the lodge at heart . Thelodge of instruction just formed in connection with the mother lodge vvas a move in the right

direction , and he should attend its meetings and do all in his power for its success . Bro . CHESTER . —Cestrian Lodge ( No . 425)—This lod ge held its annual Festival of St . John on Thursday , the 19 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Queen-street , when in consequence of the ill health of the S . W ., who is thereby incapacitated from taking the chair , Bro . Cuzner , an old Past Master of some 20 years' standing , who had been elected at the previous lodge meeting by the unanimous suffrages of

the brethren as their W . M . for the ensuing year , vvas again dul y installed to that office , and placed in the chair according to ancient custom . The installation ceremony vvas impressively performed by Bro . Parkes , I . P . M ., and Bro . J- E . Williams , P . M ., P . Z ., P . P . S . G . D .

Among those present vve noticed the following officers of the lodge : Bros . Alfred Parkes , I . P . M . ; E . Cuzner W . M . elect ; Marcus Lightfoot , S . W . ; Sheriff Roberts , J-W . ; F . H . M . proposed a vote of thanks to G .

William Lambly Tucker , the whole

of the ceremony being conducted in such an excellent manner as to call forth a very hearty vote of thanks to Bro . Hopkins . The newly-installed W . M . appointed and invested the officers of the lodge for the ensuing year as follows : Bros . T . C . Hopkins , I . P . M . ; H . J . Johnson , S . W . ; F . Sloper , J . W . ; Rev . VV . M ., " observing that the brethren could tell by the manner in which he had carried out the working of the lodge that evening what was in store for them .

Bro . Hobson announced that he intended to stand as Steward for the Boys at the next festival , and also that Bro .
