guineas be voted for the Treasurer ' s list at the approaching Festival of the R . M . B . I . " Bro . Mercer seconded , and it was carried unanimously . Messrs . Wood and Schneider were initiated by the VV . M ., and candidates having been proposed , the lodge was then closed . Supper was provided in the dining saloon . The first toast proposed was a little varied from the usual form , it wis given " Our Empress Oueen and the Craft . " "The M . W . G . M . H . R . H . the Prince of Wales" followed .

"The M . W . Pro G . M ., the Earl Amherst ; the R . W . Dep . G . M ., the Earl of Warwick , the Present and Past Grand Officers . " This toast was coupled with the name of Bro . Richard Eve , P . G . Treas . The W . M . spoke of the valuable services rendered by our excellent brother to the Misonic Charities , especially to the Boys ' School at the Centenary , of which upwards of £ 140 , 000 was collected . Bro . Richard Eve , P . G . Treas ., responded in a glowing extempore oration . We regret our limited space will not enable us to give it in extenw ; we can only give a brief summary . Bro . Eve spoke of the great honour he considered it to be elected to his

high office by the suffrages of the brethren , that it far exceeded the honour of being invested by the hands of the M . W . G . M . ; that it was indeed a different matter to select officers from so many deserving brethren . The aim of Grand Lodge was to have representatives of all the leading professions , arts , and sciences ; thus in Grand Lodge were found the leading men in the Church , the Bar , the united services , medicine , literature , music , and the drama in all its branches . That Masonry , indeed , was cosmopolitan . He spoke of the difficulty experienced by English Masons in obtaining admission to lodges in the United States of America , the severe examination they have to undergo ,

and relating his personal experiences during a late visit . How universal Masonry was in its character need not be said ; it was a well-established fact . " The Craft comprises all sorts and creeds of every country in the world . To all are extended the right hand of fellowship who acknowledge T . G . A . O . T . U ., under whatever form and spirit he may be worshipped , our great exponent and upholder of English Masonry being our M . W . G . M . We had hoped that in another part of our columns we might have been permitted to reproduce this most beautiful exordium on " Freemasonry , " but with the usual modesty of true merit our worthy brother declined to lour and , we are sure , the regrets of our numerous readers .

The l . P . M . gave " The Health of the W . M ., " and spoke eloquently of his Masonic merit . The W . M . responded in felicitous terms . He spoke of the various phases of his Masonic life , of the effectual aid he received from his officers , and of their loyalty to him . He said that efficiency was owing to their regular attendance at the lodge of instruction , which he considered to be the " creche " of the mother lodge . "The Initiates " was given by the VV . M . Bros . Wood and Schneider briefly replied .

At this juncture the Secretary of the Boys'School put in an appearance , and received a hearty welcome . "The Masonic Charities " was given by the W . M . He said the Treasurer of the lodge was going up for the Benevolent Institution , and relied on the kind support of the brethren .

_ Bro . McLeod , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . I . B ., replied on behalf of the Charities . He said that , whilst duty compelled him to urge the claims of the Boys' School , he would especially claim their sympathy for the Benevolent Institution . " The Visitors " came next . Bros . Nash and Townley replied . The Officers " was proposed by the W . M . He spoke of the I . P . M ., and , as an

acknowledgment of his valuable services , he presented to him , in the name of the lodge , a Past Master's collar and jewel . At this late hour of the evening the l . P . M . responded briefly , but effectively , thanking the brethren for their kindness . The Tyler ' s toast brought the f JStive meeting to a close . It was a most enjoyable , intellectual evening ; the work in the lodge by the W . M , and his officers was excellent , and the hearty welcome accorded to the visitors and the varied entertainment provided was universally appreciated .

Craft Masonry

guineas be voted for the Treasurer ' s list at the approaching Festival of the R . M . B . I .
