Chapman , the Secretary , read the report of the lodge ' s doings during the year as follows : It is gratifying to record a year ot continued success for the Eccentric Lidge . A reference to the statement of accounts will show that the lodge enters on the third year of its existence with a credit surplus of £ 17 S gs . id . This surplus includes an item for arrears amounting to £ 24 15 s . Gd ., of which the greater portion will be surely , though tardily ,
paid . It would relieve the Secretary of a great deal of labour if members would send in their subscriptions at the commencement of the lodge year ( i . e . October 1 st ) . The Charity Fund has a balance , included in above , of £ 23 iGs . to its credit . The lodge has to deplore the loss , by death during the year , of our esteemed Brother Thomas Beard , P . M ., a loss which is deeply and sincerely felt by every member of the lodge . During the year nine initiates and 10 joining members were admitted . The number on the roll is now : subscribing members , 57 ; hon . members , 5 ; total , G 2 .
After the business of the lodge had been completed , the brethren partook of a choice banquet , supplied by Messrs . Spiers and Pond , Limited , superintended by Bro . Mantell , and afterwards honoured the usual toasts . The W . M . started by saying there were to be but the briefest of speeches , and that the evening was to be devoted to enjoyment , consequently there was very little oratory . Bro . Lord Dungarvan replied to the toast of ••The Grand Officers , " and said he was pleased to find there was such an agreeable innovation in Masonry .
Bro . Osmond Carr , I . P . M ., gave the toast of "The W . M ., " and sincerely wished him a happy year of office . Bro . Clifford had the interests of the lodge at heart , and miller his care during the year the lodge must prosper . Bro . Clifford , W . M ., in reply , said he was greatly handicapped , as he came after such excellent Masters , who worked so well the ritual , and laboured in the interests of the lodge . He trusted that when he came to the end of his year of ollice the success of the lodge would show that their confidence in him as W . M . had not been misplaced .
The Charity box then went round , and the result of the appeal to the brethren was a collection of four guineas . Bro . Clifford , VV . M ., proposed " The Installing Master , " highly complimenting him on the fluency and accuracy with which he had rendered the ceremony . Bro . Osmond Carr , I . P . M ., in response , said he had considerable difficulties and marchings of heart when he went through the ceremonies of installation , and he felt when he had finished that he might have done better . He really did not do the ceremony
ai he should have wished . He was suffering from a severe cold . and unfortunately did nut possess all the attributes which were usually set down for a Freemason , because he was afraid he was a very considerable prevaricator . He tried to relegate it to the Greek Kalends , but having facing him the time when he periormed it in the Isaac Newton L ' niversity Lodge at Cambridge some years ago , he thought he could do it again . The W . M ., Bro . Walter Clifford , proposed " The Visitors , " and coupled with the toast the name of Bro . Edmund Rosenthal , W . M . 2190 . Bro . Edmund Rosenthal then rose and said : Worshipful Master , Grand Officers , ollicers and brethren , —On behalf of my brother visitors and myself , I thank _ you , Worshipful Mastei , for the manner you have proposed this toast , and , likewise , the officers and brethren for the truly Masonic spirit with which they have received the same . Noel Money Lodge , No . 2521 . This young , but flourishing lodge , held its first installation meeting ( after the consecration ) at the Oatlands Park Hotel , Weybridge , on Tuesday , the Sth inst . Owing to the very sad loss the lodge had sustained by the lamented death of its first VV . M ., the late Bro . Col . Gerard Noel Money , C . B ., Prov . G . M . for Surrey , the proceedings were presided over by Bro . H . J . Bidwell , P . P . G . D . C . There were a large number of visiting brethren present , among whom were Bros . C . T . Tvler , Prov . G . Sec ; J . B . S . Lancaster , P . P . G . S . B . ; E . T . Madeley , Prov . G . S . R . ; A . VV . Crewdson , P . M . ; J . F . Chapman , P . M . ; W . S . Hooper , S . W . ; and the Worshipful Masters of several neighbouring lodges .
The lodge was opened and the minutes were read and confirmed , after which Bro . J . J . Powell , M . D ., was , in a very impressive manner , raised to the Degree of Master Mason . Bro . Frank Harper , S . W ., was then presented to the W . M . to be installed . The ceremony of installation was performed by Bros . Bidwell in a masterly manner , and when Bro . Harper had been placed in the chair and duly saluted the following brethren were appointed as his officers for the year : Bros . H . J . Bidwell , I . P . M . ; Richard J . Hunt , S . W . ; Frederick Thomas , j . W . ; Thomas Dix , P . M ., Treas . ; E . A . Brown , Sec . ; John K . Hill , S . D . ; A . II . Gale , J . D . ; Henry Budd , I . G . ; I .
Colman , Org . ; T . Disney Fisher , D . C ; George Marrs and J . B . Woods , Stwds . ; and G . J . Mason , Tyler . At this stage of the proceedings Bro . Thos . Dix , P . M ., asked , through the W . M ., the lodge ' s acceptance of a life-sized portrait in oils of their late esteemed VV . M ., Bro . Col . G . N . Money , CB . Bro . Harper , VV . M ., in acknowledging the gift , said the very pleasing event which had just taken place came upon them with such surprise that he felt himself almost at a loss to sufficiently express , as the mouthpiece of the lodge , their thanks to Bro . Dix for the very handsome gift he had been pleased to make to the lodge in that unostentatious manner which so characterised
him in all his doings . The very beautiful and life-like portrait of their late esteemedhe would say beloved—W . M . would be received by that lodge he felt sure with the most sincere thanks of every individual brother . It would adorn that Masonic lodge and constantly recall to their minds the memory of one who had , by his noble example , added lustre to the already brilliant traditions of those equally grand Masons who preceded him in that province and whose memory would ever be revered by all who knew him as
well for his distinguished services as a soldier as for the good work he had done for the Craft generally , and , if he might say so , for that lodge in particular . On behalf of the lodge he tendered to Bro . Dix his sincere thanks for his handsome gift and congratulated him on the forethought he had displayed in securing for the lodge a permanent monument to the memory of a man who was beloved wherever he was known . After a recherche repast , the usual loyal toasts were honoured .
Bro . C . T . Tyler , Prov . G . Sec , ably responded on behalf of "The Prov . Grand Officers , Fresent and Past . " Bro . H . J . Bidwell , acting I . P . M ., in proposing the toast of " The Worshipful Master , " said it was difficult to utter in the presence of a man all that one would like to say and what was in his heart and mind to express . He had no hesitation in saying , however , that he had watched the career in Masonry of Bro . Harper for a long time past , and he was satisfied from the pains he took to thoroughly qualify himself in the various offices he had filled , and his earnest devotion to Freemasonry generally , he
would do honour to the position to which he had been elected . The Worshipful Master , in reply , said that no effort on his part should be spared to promote the well-being of the lodge . He had then a much more pleasing duty to perform than of responding to kind and too flattering words concerning himself . He desired to submit " The Health of the acting Immediate Past Master , " which he did with sincere pleasure . They were particularly fortunate in having Bro . Bidwell as a member of their lodge , for when their late esteemed W . M . was so suddenly called away to the Grand Lodge above they might have found themselves in a predicament had it not been for the kind manner in which Bro . Bidwell came to their aid . His ureal
experience and help had contributed much to the success the lodge had achieved . He hoped Bro . Bidwell might be spared with health and strength long to remain a member of that lodge , where he had won the goodwill and esteem of the whole of the brethren . Bro . Bidwell suitably responded . Other toasts followed . The pleasure of the evening was greatly enhanced by the vocalist party , consisting of Bros . J . F . Chapman , J . K . Hill , G . Marrs , E . Squire , and A . Grace . Bro . Fredk . Thomas gave solos on the violin , which were much appreciated . Bro . T . Disney Fisher accompanied . A word of praise is due to Bro . Arthur Grace , the genial manager of the hotel , for his excellent catering and complete arrangements for the comfort of the brethren .
