a Cap tain Storey who was also a brother and who had been captured , and again released , a few days previous to Hro Pack ' s capture by our kind brother De Bon . " Brethren who have copies of my " Masonic R » g ' ster , " ¦ S 7 S will find a brief account of this very interesting event at page 65 of that work . The lodge obtained a « npcial Centenary Jewel Warrant in 1805 , the year when

its hundred years had been completed , the design , however , does not refer to the foregoing incident , but introduces ; t dolphin as the prominent figure , in allusion , doubtless , to the number of sea captains , who have from time to time , belonged to the lodge . " ' W . J . HUGHAN .

"THE MOST ANCIENT AND HONOURABLE ORDER OF HICCABITES . " Chester , 12 th March , 18 SS . —In looking over some old newspapers for items relating to Freemasonry , I have come across several advertisements and notices relating to the "Ancient and Honourable Society of Hiccabites" —here are samples : "Chester 15 Jany 1777 . —On

Wednesday , the 28 th instant , will hi holden at the Golden Talbot , in the City , at five o ' clock in the evening of that day . A Chapter of the Most Ancient and Honourable Order of the Hiccabites . When and where the Brothers and Sisters are requested to give their attendance . Ladies and Gentlemen of Capability and good Character may be then admitted Members . By Order of the Court . "

—" jFebyi 77 S . —The Ladies and Gentlemen who were present , on Wednesday last , at the Chapter of the Most Ancient and Honourable Order of Hiccabites , held at the Talbot , formed a very numerous Assembly ; the Ball was peculiarly brilliant ; the Supper for Variety and Elegance was allowed to excell every one of the kind on any similar occasion ; and the Evening concluded wilh the usual Marks of Innocence and Mirth . " Can any of the readers

of Masonic Notes and Queries give me any information about this so-called Order ? It has been suggested to me that the Hiccabites were similar to the Rechabites , except that the latter were teetotalers and the former were not ; but this was , I think , long before teetotalers were known . If it was not for tbe presence of Sisters at their meetings , I would have supposed the title was adopted from a play on the word hiccup . 12 th March . J . C . ROBINSON .

hoped to meet them all well and happy after the ensuing long recess . No . 13 S 1 was a lodge holding a high position on the Surrey side of the water , and so long as his health permitted nothing should be wanting on his part , to still further enhance its prosperity and good name . Bro . Stuart having' also said a few words , " The Officers " terminated the proceedings .

GREAT CITY LODGE ( No . 1426 ) . —This lodge held its regular meeting , the last of the season , at Cannonstreet Hotel , on Saturday last , and an unusual number of members and visitors were present . Bro . N . B . Headon , P . M . and Treasurer , moved that this being the Silver Wedding-day of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Most Worshipful Grand Master , the congratulations of the

lodge be at once conveyed to him in the following terms : "To Jl . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Most Worshipful Grand Master of Freemasons , Marlborough House . — The Worshipful Master , Officers , and brethren of the Great City Lodge , now assembled at Cannon-strtet Hotel , respectfully and heartily felicitate your Royal Hig hness upon the auspicious occasion of your Silver Wedding-day , and

pray that the Great Architect of the Universe will bless you and your beloved wife and family with health and every happiness throughout years to come . " The "Wedding March" was afterwards well played by Bro . E . Wesley , Organist of the lodge .

PERSEVERANCE LODGE ( No . 1 743 ) . —A regular meeting of this lodge was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet street , on Saturday evening , the ioth inst ., and a more than usual interest was evident when it became known by the summons that the VV . M ., Bro . C . E . Ferry , had recently recovered from an illness of two or three months , and would not only preside , but would initiate his eldest son into the mysteries of our Order . A ballot was

taken for Mr . J . Bernard Ferry and Mr . John Evans , which proved unanimous , and thc W . M . was more than usually careful and impressive in conferring upon them the First Degree . After which it was decided to hold a ladies' banquet after the next regular meeting in April . The lodge then voted ten guineas for the Secretary , Bro . Chamberlayne , to place upon his Steward ' s list for the coming

Festival of the Girls' School . This concluded the business of the evening , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet room , where an excellent dinner was served them by Bro . M ., in proposing "The Health of the Queen , " remarked that such a sterling Sovereign needed no gilding from any speech he might be bold enough to make 5 and next , in reference to the toast of "The M . W . G . M ., " said that as that was thc actual silver wedding anniversary , every Mason throughout the land

would unite in wishing every happiness to his Royal Highness and to their beloved Princess . Bro . Read , I . P . M ., having proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., " and expressed the pleasure the lodge felt at his being ; restored to health , Bro . C . E . Ferry replied that he was equally pleased to

get back to work again , and that though he belonged to other lodges , he wished to show his esteem for the brethren present by proposing his son for initiation there . In reply to the toast of "The Initiates , " Bro . J . Bernard Ferry said that he had long desired to be a Mason , and although very much impressed and gratified at the

ceremony he had passed through , thought he could perceive many difficulties before he could hope to attain the efficiency of his father . In replying for "The Visitors , " Bio . George H . Ferry , a brother of the VV . M ., said that although a Mason for many years he had never before attended a London lodge ,

but he had come from Cambridge that evening for the treat of seeing his own brother initiate his nephew , and was very gratified at the cordial reception he had experienced . Bro . Roberts , P . M . 65 , said that Bro . Ferry had lost none of his old force since he was in the chair of his

mother lodge , and thought the ceremony had never been better worked . Bro . C . J . Wilkinson-Pimbury , S . W . 1997 , remarked that being an initiate of the W . M . he was very pleased to again attend , in fact , he had been there so often that it was with some difficulty he could keep himself from walking up to the Secretary's table and asking what his dues

were . The Past Masters present were Bros . " Leins , Kearney , Marlet , Eade , and Reed , and their toast was duly honoured , as also that of " The Officers , " when the Tyler ' s toast brought a very agreeable evening to a close .
