BRO . JAMES HENRY GRATION . It is with deep regret that we have to chronicle the death of Bro . James Henry Gration , J . P ., which took place at his residence , Westfield House , Barnsley , on the 31 st ult ., at the comparatively early age of 51 . The deceased was the son of a Freemason , and was initiated in the St . George ' s Lodge , No . 242 , Doncaster , in 1871 . In 18 75 he assisted in founding the Friendly Lodge , No . 1513 , Bat ' nsley , and he became its W . M . in 1877 . At this time he was chief clerk
in the Barnsley branch of the Wakefield and Barnsley Union Bank , and was appointed Manager in 1883 , but his health failing , he resigned his appointment , the Directors marking their appreciation of his services by awarding him a substantial pension . During his connection with the bank , and in his retirement , the deceased brother took an intense interest in all that concerned Masonry . ' The Province cf West Yorkshire rewarded his zeal by electing him Prov . G . Treasurer in 1 S 83 , and for nearly 20 years he acted as Chirity Steward for the Friendly
Lodge . His interest in Freemasonry was by no means confined to the Craft lodges . He was a P . Z . of the Friendly Chapter , No . 1513 , and at the tirns of his death was First Principal of the Wharncliffe Chapter , No . 1462 , Penistona , in addition to having the rank of P . P . G . Treasurer of West Yorkshire . Amongst Mark Masons he was P . P . G . W . of West Yorkshire and P . G . Steward of England . He was P . E . P . of the Hope Preceptory , No . 4 , Huddersfield , of Knights Templar , and P . P . of Malta in the same Preceptory , besides having the rank
of P . G . Constable in the Province of West Yorkihire . He was P . T . I . M . of the White Rose Council of Royal and Select Masters , No . 17 , Leeds , and also a member of the York College of Rosicruciins , and hid recently been admitted a member of the 30 th Degree . He had also joined the Rose Croix Masons , and was P . M . W . S . of the Leodiensis Chapter , No . 77 , L" ; eds Whilst he thus made a hobby of Frjemisonry , he took an active interest in all the institutions of the town . He was one of the first B jroazh Migislrates apo lintel ,
and had for some time been one of the representatives of the North Ward in the Town Council . He was an esteemed member of the venerable Cordw liners ' Society , and the Volunteers , the parish church and St . Peter's choirs , as well as the St . Celia Music il Society , have all had the advantage of his assistance and membership . The funeral took place on the 4 th instant , and wis attended by
upwards of 40 brethren representing Prov . Grind Loige ( west Yorkshire ) , the Friendly Lodge , and the WharnclilTe Chapter , in addition to the Mayor and Corporation , and members of other bodies with whom Bro . Gration was connected . The funeral service was conducted by Bro . the Rev . J . Le Brereton , M . A ., P . P . G . Chap . West Yorkshire , who gave an impressive address to the brethren at the graveside .

THIRTEENTH ANNUAL DINNER OF THE OLD MASONIANS' ASSOCIATION .
This annual dinner was held at the headquarters of the Association at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , E . G ., on the 25 th ult . The President for the year , Bro . John Strachan , Q . C , G . Registrar , occupied the chair , and was supported by Bro ? . R . Eve , P . G . Treas . j J . Weaver , P . M . ; Horace Lewis , Hon . Sec ; R . Harold Williams ; R . S . Chandler , Hon . Treas . of the Association , and VV . M . elect 2700 ; and others .
After the preliminiry toasts had been disposed of , the CHAIRMAN at once proceeded to propose " Thc Old Masonians . " He said the idea was a grand one , and thoroughly English , for wherever they went they found old boys standing shoulder to shoulder , ever ready to meet together to renew old associations . Being Boat Race Day the men of the Universities had been celebrating the event , and the Old Masonians could feel the same interest , as the colour
of their school was " blue . " Bro . Eve and he were now " dark blue , " but this was a grand thing , because they could "hedge" so beautifully , They all knew the subject of the toast better thin he did . A more worth y institution in connection with Masonry or anything else did not exist . Being asked what the Association was , he said it was a sort of " Help Yourself Society , " although he had known of such societies helping themselves a little too much .
They did better to help each other when help was needed , and he knew whit good the Benevolent Association of the Old Boys had done , and when others could hear of it their sympathy had been extended to the movement . He joined the Association as a Vice-President to show his interest in it , and he hoped they would have many years together , for he would come amongst them as often as he could .
He would couple with the toast the name of the Hon . Treasurer , who had been heartily greeted as " good old plank , " and must , therefore , have something to do with the old Roman Consul Plancus . BrJ . Chandler was also Master elect of the Old Masonians' Lodge , and they would all join in wishing nim a . good year with plenty of work . Before he sat down he would read a telegra . n frJ . n Bro . Hebb , who was prevented by illness from atteniing .
Bro . R . S . CtlANULKK , hon . Treis ., in his response , Slid thit throughaut the memorable events of the Masonic world during the past year they , as old scholars of the Boys' School , had taken the greatest interest . They had in a small way done what they could . For the first time in the histu . y of the School they had
been directly represented by a Steward at the Festival . It was his great pleasure to be that Steward with a list of a little over £ 108 , and that sum would have been greater if they could have communicated with more old scholars . They had commemorated the Centenary of the School in a substantial minner by the formation of the Old Masonians Lodge , and had added 11 initiates and three joinin t mem-

of P . G . Constable in the Province of West Yorkihire . He was P . T . I . M . of the White Rose Council of Royal and Select Masters , No . 17 , Leeds , and also a member of the York College of Rosicruciins , and hid recently been admitted a member of the 30 th Degree . He had also joined the Rose Croix Masons , and was P . M . W . S . of the Leodiensis Chapter , No . 77 , L" ; eds Whilst he thus made a hobby of Frjemisonry , he took an active interest in all the institutions of the town . He was one of the first B jroazh Migislrates apo lintel ,
and had for some time been one of the representatives of the North Ward in the Town Council . He was an esteemed member of the venerable Cordw liners ' Society , and the Volunteers , the parish church and St . Peter's choirs , as well as the St . Celia Music il Society , have all had the advantage of his assistance and membership . The funeral took place on the 4 th instant , and wis attended by
upwards of 40 brethren representing Prov . Grind Loige ( west Yorkshire ) , the Friendly Lodge , and the WharnclilTe Chapter , in addition to the Mayor and Corporation , and members of other bodies with whom Bro . Gration was connected . The funeral service was conducted by Bro . the Rev . J . Le Brereton , M . A ., P . P . G . Chap . West Yorkshire , who gave an impressive address to the brethren at the graveside .

THIRTEENTH ANNUAL DINNER OF THE OLD MASONIANS' ASSOCIATION .
This annual dinner was held at the headquarters of the Association at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , E . G ., on the 25 th ult . The President for the year , Bro . John Strachan , Q . C , G . Registrar , occupied the chair , and was supported by Bro ? . R . Eve , P . G . Treas . j J . Weaver , P . M . ; Horace Lewis , Hon . Sec ; R . Harold Williams ; R . S . Chandler , Hon . Treas . of the Association , and VV . M . elect 2700 ; and others .
After the preliminiry toasts had been disposed of , the CHAIRMAN at once proceeded to propose " Thc Old Masonians . " He said the idea was a grand one , and thoroughly English , for wherever they went they found old boys standing shoulder to shoulder , ever ready to meet together to renew old associations . Being Boat Race Day the men of the Universities had been celebrating the event , and the Old Masonians could feel the same interest , as the colour
of their school was " blue . " Bro . Eve and he were now " dark blue , " but this was a grand thing , because they could "hedge" so beautifully , They all knew the subject of the toast better thin he did . A more worth y institution in connection with Masonry or anything else did not exist . Being asked what the Association was , he said it was a sort of " Help Yourself Society , " although he had known of such societies helping themselves a little too much .
They did better to help each other when help was needed , and he knew whit good the Benevolent Association of the Old Boys had done , and when others could hear of it their sympathy had been extended to the movement . He joined the Association as a Vice-President to show his interest in it , and he hoped they would have many years together , for he would come amongst them as often as he could .
He would couple with the toast the name of the Hon . Treasurer , who had been heartily greeted as " good old plank , " and must , therefore , have something to do with the old Roman Consul Plancus . BrJ . Chandler was also Master elect of the Old Masonians' Lodge , and they would all join in wishing nim a . good year with plenty of work . Bro . R . S . CtlANULKK , hon . Treis ., in his response , Slid thit throughaut the memorable events of the Masonic world during the past year they , as old scholars of the Boys' School , had taken the greatest interest . They had in a small way done what they could . For the first time in the histu . y of the School they had
been directly represented by a Steward at the Festival . It was his great pleasure to be that Steward with a list of a little over £ 108 , and that sum would have been greater if they could have communicated with more old scholars . They had commemorated the Centenary of the School in a substantial minner by the formation of the Old Masonians Lodge , and had added 11 initiates and three joinin t mem-
