Olver , to whom the resuscitation of the chapter ( after lying dormant for 23 years ) is mainly due , in responding to the toast of his health , explained the difficulties he had encountered in re-forming the chapter , at the same time informing the companions that Comp . R . Carter , P . G . P . S ., was also to be thanked for aiding him most materially , especially at the commencement of the resuscitation . Comp .

Olver has also compiled a new code of bye-laws , which will contain a short account of the means taken to bring this ancient chapter into activity . The visiting companions were Comps . F . D . It was proposed by J . T . Wilson , and seconded by J . S . Wilson , that the sincere and best thanks of the companions be given to Comp . Thomas Coulson and his family for the untiring interest they took not only in the Hadrian Lodge , but also in the St . Hilda ' s Lodge and Chapter , more especially for the trouble they had been at in the selection of the new robes , manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , the new bannerets , candle standards , & c , for the chapter .

This being received with pleasurable acclamation , Comp . Coulson , in reply , said that whatever any of his family did for Alasonry was done with a wish to make them all happy , and speaking for himself it was simply a labour of love . LIVERPOOL . —Walton Chapter ( No . 1086 ) . — The monthly meeting of this chapter was held on Friday evening , the 24 th ult ., when there was a goodly attendance of the companions . At the close of the business in the chapter the companions adjourned for supper , well served by Comp . Wm . Vines , after which the opportunity was taken of presenting

— " with an additional mark of the respect in which they were held" —Comps . Joseph Ellis , P . Z ., and John J . Savage , P . Z ., who , having served the chapter as First Principals , had continued an unceasing interest in the wellfare of the chapter . The presentation to each consisted of

a very handsome polished case of electro-plated dessert knives and forks . proposed " That a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes of the lodge , and presented to Bro . Matier for his kindness in attending and performing the ceremony of installation , and further that he be elected by acclamation an honorary member of the lodge . " He said Bro . Matier had that day shown them what Alark Alasonry should be , and although suffering with severe hoarseness , and although his presence would be missed at thc Boys' election , held

that day , yet he had , at the request of the VV . AI ., come down to Woolwich to perform a ceremony that unless well done was not worth doing at all . Bro . Alatier's name was a household word among the Alark Alasons of Woolwich , and of thc 37 advancecs advanced by Bro . Matier when he consecrated the Excelsior Lodge , and installed its first terly manner in which those ceremonies were carried out . Bro . Alatier was known in every degree of Alasonry as a

master of its mysteries and ceremonies , and he felt that Alaster , some seven years ago , few would ever , if they could , forget the deep impression then madeupon them by the mashis name on the role of the lodge would be an honour to it . He then moved the above resolution . Bro . Sydney Clarke seconded , and cordially thanked Bro . Alatier for his attendance . The W . AL , in putting the resolution , fully endorsed

every word uttered by Bro . Sweney , and the motion was carried unanimously . Bro . Alatier thanked the brethren , and expressed the pleasure it gave him to become a honorary member of the Florence Nightingale Lodge , because he remembered with an affectionate remembrance when it was first constituted under the dear old Grand Chapter of Scotland . What he had done that day was very little indeed , and only his duty , but if they were pleased , then he could assure them

that he was perfectly satisfied and repaid by the expression of their pleasure . The W . M . then presented a handsome Past Alaster ' s jewel to Bro . Sydney Clarke , and wished him long life and health to wear it , as a mark of the esteem in which he was held by the hrethren of the lodge . Bro . Clarke briefly returned thanks , and would wear it as a momento of twelve months' pleasant work and harmonious intercourse with every member of the " Florence . "

The lodge was then closed , and the brethren banqueted in the hall , Bro . VV . Aloulder , of Craft Lodge S 29 , catering in admirable style . The other brethren present were Bros . Capt . J . The usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts having been honoured , Bro . Alatier responded for that of "The D . G . AI . and the rest of the Grand Officers , Past and Present . " He said their G . M . was a great lover of the Degree , and . 'worked hard for its progress ; still the D . G . AI . had shown his love by coming forward to take the chair at

the " Grand Alark Benevolent Festival at the Crystal Palace . As to the Grand Ofiicers , he believed they were as good as they ever had had , and all were inspired with but one feeling , namely , the success and prosperity of Alark Alasonry . He cordially thanked them for the toast , and trusted for many years to rejoice with them in the prosperity of the lodge , of which he felt proud to be a member .

The LP . AL , in proposing " The Health of the W . AL , " said they were all deli g hted to welcome their VV . AL home from India , and when it was found that Bro . Dr . Godwin , who had lately returned home an invalid from Egypt , could not , through continued ill-health , take the chair , they unanimously elected Bro . Col . Gordon to preside over them for the second time . A more excellent Mason he never knew , while his work in their Craft lodge , little as they saw

it , for he only did the ceremony of raising once before he was called away , showed the great mastery he had acquired of the work he had to do . They all deeply regretted the illness of Bro . Godwin , and trusted he would soon be well and with them ; but now he would ask them to drink the health of Bro . Gordon in bumpers . The Worshipful Master , in response , said be found it very difficult to respond adequately ; but must say that , in

returning to the lodge , he found himself among good friends . They all deeply deplored the illness of their S . W ., who would have been only too happy to have taken the chair had he been able . He trusted the lodge would increase , and could assure them that nothing should be wanting on his part to ensure so happy a result . " The Advance" was next toasted , and returned thanks .

Bros . Driver , S l inks , and Jolly responded for " The Visitors . " Bro . Scully responded for "The Past Masters , " and congratulated the VV . M . on his return from India , and on his being re-installed as Alaster of a lodge the very name 01 which was loved and venerated throughout the whole civilised world . He felt it , for , as a soldier in the Crimea , he had felt the touch of her gentle hand when on a sick bed .

and knew something of what she did there . The lodge had flourished during the past year , and under the rule of their VV . M . he felt that it must be a success . He thanked them for the toast most heartily . Bro . Sydney Clarke , in the course of his response , spoke feelingly of the death of the late Bro . Dr . Pope , who had for past visited their lod both Craft and

many years ges , Alark . He was a kind , genial-hearted man , and a good Alason , and he felt that , as one of tbe papers had said ot him , " we cannot give him measure for all his good qualities , but we all mourn his loss and cherish his memory . The toast of "The Officers" was responded to by Bro . Denton . The Tyler's toast concluded the proceedings .
