After the transaction of the ordinary business of the lodsre , including the elpctinr of four joining members , the W . M . read an essay on " The Sun considered as a Masonic Symbol , " in the course of which he reviewed all the references to the glorious lum " narv of nature which are met with in the ritual and lectures of
the Craft Degrees and installation ceremonial . He showed the identity of the blazing star and the sacred symbol of the Second Degree—and the allusions to the centre —with the sun . He pointed out the astronomical character of the ceremonial with various illustrations and quotations , and its similarity to the ancient religions . The address was received with great attention , and at its close a vote of
thanks was accorded to the W . M . A very interesting discussion followed , during which several novel points were introduced . It is expected that the subjects of future papers to be read before the lodge will be : " The Legend of the Third Degree , " " Noteson the early History of the Humber Lodge Warrrant , " " Biographical Anecdotes of old Hull Masons , " and " Masonic Literature , Past and Present . " A
vote of five guineas was granted to the Educational Fund of the province and several eminent brethren , including the Prov . G . Master , were proposed as members . At the conclusion of the business the usual refreshment followed , when , as is customary , several Masonic curiosities were exhibited , and a most agreeable and instructive evenng was passed .

Tyler . Bros . Hearsham , P . M ., ani Minnet were appointed Scrutineers for the balloting of W . M . and Treasurer . Bros . H . C . Minnett , W . Lane , and E . S . Sullivan were proposed as joining members , and , alter " Hearty good wishes , " the lodge was closed . The brethren then sat down to supper , after which the usual toasts were gone through . Bro . Lewis returned thanks for coupling his name with
that of the Province of Surrey . After the toast of " The Visitors , " Bro , Hearsham th ¦ inked the brethren , and , in a few wellchosen words , expressed the pleasure he had had in hearing the working of the W . M . He had heard of the manner in which it was carried out , and was pleased that he had been present to testify the remarks . The Tyler's toast brought a happy evening to a conclusion .

It hrd enjoyed hitherto a succtsslul career , and he assured the brethren that nothing should be wanting on his part to make the year in which the lodge came of age a record year . The toast of " The Visiting Brethren , " proposed by Bro . W . Biggs . P . M ., was responded ti by Bros . Morrison , Threlfall , Farrington . Martyne . and Coooock .
Bro . Burslem , P . M ., in n-oposing "The Health of the Installing Master "—the " Father" of the lodae—said that distinguished brother had installed every Master of the lodge since its cons-cration . Uro . Gillman , P . P . S . G . D ., in his reply , gave an interesting account of the past history of the lodge . The toast of "The Masonic Charities" was submitted
by Bro . Preston , J . W ., who pointed to the great work which was being done by the Maronic Institutions having their head-quarters in London , and commended them to the support of the brethren . In addition to those noble landmarks of the Order , he said there were Masonic Charitiee in the Province of West Lancashire whicb were doing much to ameliorate the condition of many in misfortune and
distress . The West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was alone educating 212 children . The remaining toasts , including those of " The Newlyinvested Officers " and " The Past Masters , " having been honoured , a most successful meeting was brought to a close . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .
Duchess of York Lodge ( No , 2482 ) . —The installation njeeting was held at the Victoria Hotel , on Monday evening , the 15 th instant . Bro . Archer Lowe , P . P . G . S . B ., W . M ., who has carried all the duties of the lodge during its first year through most successfully , and in return for his energy the brethren have presented him with a Life Governorship of the Benevolent Institution , and the
lodge is now , at the termination of his year , in a most prosperous condition . Bro . Lowe installed his successor , who was presented by Bro . Shaw , P . M ., and the installation was conducted throughout in a most able manner by Bro . Lowe . The Three Charges were given by Bro . J . W . Sillitoe , P . G . S . B . Eng ., which gave great pleasure to all present . After all business had been transacted , the lodge was closed , and thus ended a most successful meeting .
PURFLEET . Tilbury Lodge ( No . 2006 ) . —The last meeting for the present year of the above lodge took place on Saturday , the 13 th inst ., the chair being taken by Bro . Walter Buttery , W . M . After the minutes of the last meeting had been read and other business transacted , the brethren were asked to elect a VV . M . for the ensuing year . Bro . P . C .

him what he felt existed between the Grand Officers the lodges in geneial ; namely , that co-operation , and sympathy , and support , without which the Fraternity could not expect to retain the popularity it had enjoyed in the pait . lt was the consciousness that they held the respect and esteem of the brethren throughout the country that enabled the Grand Officers to carry on the work of the
Craft . They rtc . gnised that the principles of Freemasonry were established upon the unswerving rock of religion , and from that emanated Charity . It was not the first time he had visited Woking , and his recollections were such that when they gave him the opportunity of coming again , he did notcry back . They had been impressed with the solemnity of the they had witnessed . Nothing impressed

With a sincere and fervent prayer to the Great Architect to vouchsafe wisdom , forethought , and a determination to carry thiough his year the destinies of the lodge to * the credit of the Craft . Bro . Burslem , P . M ., in n-oposing "The Health of the Installing Master "—the " Father" of the lodae—said that distinguished brother had installed every Master of the lodge since its cons-cration . Uro . Gillman , P . P . S . G . D ., in his reply , gave an interesting account of the past history of the lodge . The toast of "The Masonic Charities" was submitted
by Bro . Preston , J . W ., who pointed to the great work which was being done by the Maronic Institutions having their head-quarters in London , and commended them to the support of the brethren . In addition to those noble landmarks of the Order , he said there were Masonic Charitiee in the Province of West Lancashire whicb were doing much to ameliorate the condition of many in misfortune and
distress . The West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was alone educating 212 children . The remaining toasts , including those of " The Newlyinvested Officers " and " The Past Masters , " having been honoured , a most successful meeting was brought to a close . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .
Duchess of York Lodge ( No , 2482 ) . —The installation njeeting was held at the Victoria Hotel , on Monday evening , the 15 th instant . Bro . Archer Lowe , P . P . G . S . B ., W . M ., who has carried all the duties of the lodge during its first year through most successfully , and in return for his energy the brethren have presented him with a Life Governorship of the Benevolent Institution , and the
lodge is now , at the termination of his year , in a most prosperous condition . Bro . Lowe installed his successor , who was presented by Bro . Shaw , P . M ., and the installation was conducted throughout in a most able manner by Bro . Lowe . The Three Charges were given by Bro . J . W . Sillitoe , P . G . S . B . Eng ., which gave great pleasure to all present . After all business had been transacted , the lodge was closed , and thus ended a most successful meeting .
