A Past Master's jewel was presented to the I P . M ., Bro . W . J . Baker , in recognition of his services in the chair during the past year , and as a mark cf respect and esteem from the members . Oiher business was transacted and the lodge was closed .

An excellent banquet was well served , and Bro . T . F . Jones , the Steward , was assiduous in his attentions to the visitors and members . The usual trasts ft llowed , "The Oueen and the Crait" and " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " being first heartily honoured . In proposing " The Grand Officers , " the W . M . welcomed Bro . McLeod , and said that the I . P . M . had promised to act as Steward for the next Festival of the Boys' School ar . d hoped to be supported by the brethren .

Bro . J . M . McLeod , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . I . B ., said that by the kindness of Bro . West , P . G . D ., he was enabled to reply . It was a pleasure to visit that Masonic centre and see such a representative gathering . He congratulated the W . M . on reaching the chair , and was assured he would carry out his duties in a progressive and admirable spirit . With reference to the Charities , they hailed with pleasure the very satisfactory result of the recent Festival of the Benevolent Institution , and hoped that in years to come it would be increased by the generosity of the Craft . The Board of Management

of the Boys School had done excellent service during the last few years , and those brethren who were Subscribers had regularly received detailed information of the work being done . That work could not be done without money , and the invested capital was very limited and they had to appeal to the Craft to make up the deficiency . In the district of Sutton they had done much and sent up large sums . He thanked Bro . Baker , I . P . M ., for consenting to act as Steward , and was sure the brethren would not allow him to go up empty handed .

"The Prov . Grand Master , Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and Prov . G . Officers , " was next proposed by the W . M ., who said that the three lodges in the neighbourhood knew Bro . F . West , their Deputy Prov . Grand Master , well , for , although he had many calls upon his time , he was a frequent visitor . Bro . West always gave them words of encouragement , and he ( thc W . M . ) hoped he would have a cheering- note to sound on their assembly that night . Bro . F . West , P . G . D ., D . P . G . M ., returned thanks on behalf of his illustrious chief , who , although absent attending to higher State duties , was with them in spirit . They

were glad to be able to report that the province was not one of which the Prov . Grand Master need be ashamed . He returned thanks on behalf of the large number of Prov . Grand Officers around him , and congratulated the lodge and the W . M . on being so well supported . It showed that in the district there were Prov . Grand Officers , who , although past in rank , were still doing good Masonic work . They did not retire directly they received their collars , but went on improving and working for Masonry .

They had had an excellent address from Bro . McLeod , and he was sure it would have beneficial effects , for they did not often have the pleasure of meeting him . He ventured to congratulate the W . M . on his position , and expressed the hope that he would go through the work as well as Bro . Pile and others had done in the Iodge . Everything connected with the gathering had been satisfactory , especially the handsome book compiled by Bro . Pile and containing the musical programme .

Bro . W . Pile , P . M ., P . G . Treas ., also responded , and thanked them very heartily for the high position they had elected him to in the province—one of the most honourable a Mason could attain to . He took a great interest in Masonry , especiall y in that district , being also a member of the Lome and Ebbisham Lodges , and he hoped all those lodges would retain the high position they held in Surrey . The importance of Masonry in that neighbourhood was proved by the fact that he had been elected as Prov . G . Treasurer . He did not seek re-election to that office , but again thanked them for the confidence placed in him . He hoped the Deputy Prov . G . M . would never have cause to regret one single word of the praise he had uttered regarding their lodges .

Bro . W . J . Baker , I . P . M ., said the toast he had to propose was one of the pleasures of his Masonic life . He had had the pleasure that evening of installing one of the most popular Masons in that district , Bro . Salter Whiter . The brethren had seen some of the Worshipful Master ' s working , and that brother would not only maintain the reputation of the lodge but build it up to the position which the Wallingtonians would be pleased to see . The W . M . and himselfwere initiated together . Knowing Bro , Salter Whiter as he had done for many years he was confident that in placing him in the chair they possessed a Master who had the interest of Masonry thoroughly at heart . He had always found the W . M . willing to come forward when wanted , and he had

exemplified that on this occasion by heading his list for the Boys' School . Nothing should be wanting on his part to render the W . M . all the assistance he could and serve him in every way . The W . M . had chosen as one of his Wardens a brother whom he ( the I . P . M . ) was proud to call his son , and he could , therefore , confidently say the two Wardens would render the W . M . the same assistance which their predecessors in oflice gave . He regretted he was not able to install the W . M . in a better manner , but he had the satisfaction of knowing that the chair he had vacated was occupied by a true and sincere friend , with whom no fault would be found when his year of office expired . He gave them , with all heartiness , " The Health of the W . M . "

Bro . J . Salter Whiter , W . M ., said he did not thnk he had ever been in a more awkward position than in rising to reply to the toast of his health , so ably proposed by the I . P . M . Of course , they would take the I . P . M . 's remarks cum grano sails , hong before they became Masons they were Masons together in spirit , and had enjoyed each other ' s friendship for many years . He would endeavour to conduct the lodge as it should be conducted , to the comfort and satisfaction of all the members . Their lodge was a united lodge , the brethren working together in concord and harmony . He was proud to say that was the record meeting of the lodge , for there were present a larger number of members and visitors than they had had previously . He hoped to be present

as their W . M . when the Masonic Temple at Sutton was opened . That would be a proud day for this lodge and the Lome and Ebbisham Lodges when that ceremony took place , and he hoped all the members would endeavour to be present . It was a great undertaking and he hoped they would not bs deficient in gratitude to those who had borne the heat and burden of the day upon their shoulders . It would be his duty to continue to cement the Masonic feeling existing among the three local lodges . They were , as Bto . Pile had suid , like one lodge , for it was impossible to go into one without meeting members of the other two . It was his privilege to propose ' * The I . P . M ,, Bro . Baker , " who throughout his year entertained the members in a splendid manner and did his work well .

Bro . VV . J . Baker , I . P . M ., in response , said his work had been a work of love . Since he joined Masonry with the W . M . they had both put their shoulders to the wheel and done their best . He very much appreciated the great kindness with which he was always received by the brethren . If his efforts had given satisfaction he was proud and pleased . He should still continue to work and support the W . M . as far as he possibly could . "The Visitors" was given in cordial terms by the W . M . and acknowledged by Bros . J . O'Connell , P . P . J . G . D . ; Dr . VV . Gripper , P . P . G . D . ; and E . J . Dodd , P . G . Org . Kent . Other toasts were given before a most successful evening was brought to a close .

A handsomely-bound volume , which reflected the greatest credit on the good taste of Bio . Pile , P . M . and Sec , contained thc programme of music and words of the songs . The programme included items by Bros . G . C . Burry , P . P . G . Org . ; T . A . Hill , P . I ' . G . Org . ; K . T . Ward , P . M . ; A . Stribling , J . Asman / S . T . Baker , F . Baker , E , Phillips , and C . Hill .

Argonauts Lodge , No . 2243 . The installation meeting of * his lodge was held on Monday evening , the Sth inst ., at thc Constitutional Club , Putney , under the Worshipful Mastership of Bro . Herbert Henry Woodruff ' .-. The lodge was consecrated in 1 . S 8 S , after it had been established for the exclusive use of present and past members of recognised amateur rowing clubs . These clubs had already belonging to them several Mas-jns , and itwas out of these that the founders of the Argonauts Lodge ranged themselves , The two clubs were tha

Having duly honoured the toast of " Her Maj-isty , " the W . M . made some very apropos remarks in favour of the Hospital Fund instituted by the Daily Telegraph at the suggestion of the M . W . G . Master , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , and proposed to set apart to that fund the usual after-dinner c Election . The members and visitors hailed the suggestion with enthusiasm , and the colbctioi arnounccd reached the sum of S 40 shillings , the largest sum as yet that has been subscribed to this fund by any Masonic lodge . -

Hill .
