M . Bro . Green had been 27 years a member of that lodge , and they now had the pleasure of congratulating him on his achieving the object of his Masonic ambition—the Mastership of his mother lodge . Masonry , present with them that night . If he had not arrived at the chair before , it was hjs own fault ; but now he had arrived at it , he trusted that T . G . A . O . T . U . would give him health and strength to discharge the duties attached to it to their satisfaction , and that at the end of his office they would find the lodge at least no worse than he found it .

The Installing Master received a hearty reception as he rose to respond to the toast of his health , nor were the high eulogiums passed upon Bro . Roberts by the W . M . unwarranted . It was a splendid piece of work , and Bro . Roberts , in reply , thanked the brethren for their hearty reception of it . Bros . Brock , Jolly , Turton , Ross , Wood , Barber , Armitage , and Harper responded for "The Visitors , " and Bros . Holliday , Taplay , and Higgins for "The Past Masters . "

Miss Mary Horton , Miss Edith Markwell , Bro . Harry Hawkes , and Messrs . Webb and Lane sang some excellent ballads and comic songs . Bro . V . A . Wormold j presided at the piano .

M . delivered an inaugural address , reviewing the progress of Masonic literature during the last two centuries , and suggesting various fields of research which still awaited the tiller . The address will appear in full in the transactions of the lodge , and will prove a useful paper for reference to future students . A vote of thanks was warmly accorded . The brethren subsequently dined at the Holborn Restaurant , the toast of the new W . M . being , as usual , made the opportunity for a biographical review of his career , a task most interestingly performed by Bro . Whytehead .

Two candidates were proposed for initiation , which is a happy augury , and then the lodge was closed . .... The brethren adjourned to a recherche banquet , which was much appreciated by the brethren . ... . The W . M . afterwards proposed the customary loyal and Masonic toasts in a most praiseworthy manner , which were cordially received by the brethren . "The Pro G . M ., the Dep . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " received its just meed of praise .

Bro . C . B . R . Maltby , P . M ., in presenting the toast of "The W . M ., Bro . W . Hy . Edwards , " said it was the most important one of the evening , and fell to his lot to propose in the absence of Bro . Becker , I . P . M ., but none the less it gave him an immense pleasure in so doing . The W . M . was one of the founders of the lodge , and had performed his various duties from the beginning in a highly creditable manner . He heartily congratulated him upon attaining the position , and hoped the brethren would follow the W . M . in the same assiduous way . He wished him plenty of work and a most successful year of office , and asked the brethren to unanimously drink to the health of Bro . Edwards , W . M . Bro . C . B . R . Maltby read congratulatory telegrams from Bros . Dash , P . M ., and

J . Jenkins , P . M . . On rising to respond , the W . M . had a most cordial reception , and said he wis most grateful for the greeting and also for the glowing terms in which the proposition had been made and received by the brethren , and to his mind not deserved . However , he had taken a very deep interest in the lodge , and should continue to do so . It would be his aim to regularly attend and perform the duties to his utmost , and to uphold the prestige of the lodge , and he trusted he should do this to the entire satisfaction ot the The W . M . next presented the toast of "The Installing Mister , Bro . F . W .

Robinson , " and said the lodge was under a deep obligation to him for having so kindly undertaken the duties in the unavoidable absence of Bro . Becker , I . P . M . , The ceremonies had been performed in an admirable manner , and those who were privileged had listened with rapt attention . He had the greatest pleasure in proposing the health of Bro . Robinson , and also thanking him for having done his duty so excellently . In reply Bro . F . W . Robinson , the Installing Master , said he was only too glad to respond to the request and work the most beautiful ceremony of installation , and lie was

delighted in so doing . His advice was most hearty to the brethren to attend a lodge ot instruction in order to attain proficiency in the splendid ritual . That lodge had had a lodge of instruction attached to it , and if the brethren desired its resuscitation he should only be too pleased to undertake the duties and give the benefit of his experience . The W . M . next proposed one of the most important toasts of the evening , that of " The Visitors , " to whom the brethren of the Papyrus Lodge always gave a most cordial greeting . There were many distinguished brethren among them , and they were all most heartily welcomed .

Bros . Sykes , Jelley , Marfleet , Burney , Poore , and Stone most ably replied , paying a high tribute to the work and hospitality . „ ..., „ , « . The toast of " The Past Masters of the Lodge " was next given by the W . M . in

most appropriate terms . In reply , Bro . Maltby , acting as I . P . M ., said he felt very gratified to respond to the toast of the . P . Ms . of the Papyrus Lodge . He was one of the founders , and he felt it a great privilege to see his old friend installed into the chair , and also to have the honour of replying as I . P . M . for Bro . Becker , who was unavoidably away . He was confident that the W . M . would look after their interests during the coming 12 months . . They might congratulate themselves upon having so worthy a Master , and he hoped it would be a most successful year . On behalf of the P . Ms , he thanked the brethren for such a hearty reception j

M . delivered an inaugural address , reviewing the progress of Masonic literature during the last two centuries , and suggesting various fields of research which still awaited the tiller . The address will appear in full in the transactions of the lodge , and will prove a useful paper for reference to future students . A vote of thanks was warmly accorded . The brethren subsequently dined at the Holborn Restaurant , the toast of the new W . M . being , as usual , made the opportunity for a biographical review of his career , a task most interestingly performed by Bro . Whytehead .

Two candidates were proposed for initiation , which is a happy augury , and then the lodge was closed . .... The brethren adjourned to a recherche banquet , which was much appreciated by the brethren . ... . The W . M . afterwards proposed the customary loyal and Masonic toasts in a most praiseworthy manner , which were cordially received by the brethren . "The Pro G . M ., the Dep . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " received its just meed of praise .

Bro . C . B . R . Maltby , P . M ., in presenting the toast of "The W . M ., Bro . W . Hy . Edwards , " said it was the most important one of the evening , and fell to his lot to propose in the absence of Bro . Becker , I . P . M ., but none the less it gave him an immense pleasure in so doing . The W . M . was one of the founders of the lodge , and had performed his various duties from the beginning in a highly creditable manner . He heartily congratulated him upon attaining the position , and hoped the brethren would follow the W . M . in the same assiduous way . He wished him plenty of work and a most successful year of office , and asked the brethren to unanimously drink to the health of Bro . Edwards , W . M . Bro . C . B . R . J . Jenkins , P . M . . On rising to respond , the W . M . had a most cordial reception , and said he wis most grateful for the greeting and also for the glowing terms in which the proposition had been made and received by the brethren , and to his mind not deserved . However , he had taken a very deep interest in the lodge , and should continue to do so . It would be his aim to regularly attend and perform the duties to his utmost , and to uphold the prestige of the lodge , and he trusted he should do this to the entire satisfaction ot the The W . M . next presented the toast of "The Installing Mister , Bro . F . W .

Robinson , " and said the lodge was under a deep obligation to him for having so kindly undertaken the duties in the unavoidable absence of Bro . Becker , I . P . M . , The ceremonies had been performed in an admirable manner , and those who were privileged had listened with rapt attention . He had the greatest pleasure in proposing the health of Bro . Robinson , and also thanking him for having done his duty so excellently . In reply Bro . F . W . Robinson , the Installing Master , said he was only too glad to respond to the request and work the most beautiful ceremony of installation , and lie was

delighted in so doing . His advice was most hearty to the brethren to attend a lodge ot instruction in order to attain proficiency in the splendid ritual . That lodge had had a lodge of instruction attached to it , and if the brethren desired its resuscitation he should only be too pleased to undertake the duties and give the benefit of his experience . The W . M . next proposed one of the most important toasts of the evening , that of " The Visitors , " to whom the brethren of the Papyrus Lodge always gave a most cordial greeting . There were many distinguished brethren among them , and they were all most heartily welcomed .

He was one of the founders , and he felt it a great privilege to see his old friend installed into the chair , and also to have the honour of replying as I . P . M . for Bro . Becker , who was unavoidably away . He was confident that the W . M . would look after their interests during the coming 12 months . .
