Provincial Grand Mark Lodge Of West Yorkshire.

appeal by reminding Ihe brethren that , in addition to the advantages which he had mmtiorcd , tie formation of a Charily Committee would bring the lodges into closer touch -. * ¦ ith each fiber and into more intimate relation with the ( X-T ! live . nn ( ! thus !< nd to rement the feeling' of mutual help and brotleihootl which it was so desirable to cultivate . Hfi moved that , subject to fanction bv Grard Lodge , the fallowing rules be added to the by-laws of this prcvinre :

I . There shall be a Committee to be caller ! the Charity Committee , for the purpose of pronio'ing the interest of the Mark Benevolent Fund , and for the investigation nf all claims or applications for relief that may be referred to it by the Provincial Grand Master or by Provincial Grand Lodge .

II . The Charity Committee shall be constituted as follows : 1 . One member from each lodge in the province to be elected annually en the night of installation of the Master . 2 . Brethren who have acted as Chairmen of the Committee . 3 . Patrons , Vice-Patrons , and Vice-Presidents of the Mark Benevolent Fund , who are subscribing members to a lodge in the province .

III . The name * and address of the member shall immediately upon election be transmitted to the Provincial Grand Secretary , and should any such elected member be unable to attend the meeting of the Committee , lie may depute the Master , or any Past Master or Warden , of 1 is lodge to act in his stead . IV . The Provincial Grand Master , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and

the Provincial Grand Secretary respectively shall , cx-nflicio , be President , Vice-President , and Secretary of the Committee . The Committee shall , however , elect annually , at its lirst meeting prior to tbe annual meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge , a Chairman and Vice-Chairman , the former of whom , and in his absence the latter , shall conduct the business of the meeting .

V . The Charity Committee shall meet at least once in every year , and shall present at each annual meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge a report of its proceedings .

Bro . BARKER . D . P . G . AI ., seconded , and pointed out that in an informal manner the Fearnley Lodge , No . 58 , had for some years partially carried out the scheme suggested . Bro . M . J . DODWORTH , P . J . G . W ., thought that the brethren were

considerably indebted to Bro . Parke for bringing that important subject before them so clearly and distinctly . Personally , he gave it his warm support , and considered that the thanks of the province were due to Bro . Parke , not only for thus bringing the subject to the front , but also for his most generous support of the Fund .

Bros . H . S . HOLDSWORTH , P . P . G . W ., P . G . Std . Br ., and VV . E . SMITHIES , acting ; P S . G VV ., also supported the scheme . Bro . J . H . ORATION , P . P . G . W ., pointed out that as the Mark Benevolent Fund was inaugurated , if not actually founded , by the Rev . Canon Portal , it seemed just and proper that the elucidation of a scheme contrived to develope the working in the interest of that Fund should be initiated and adopted under the banner of the lodge which was proud to bear his

name . Bro . MA * = ON , P . G M ., considered the circumstances pointed out by Bro . Gration a happy augury as to the sucrcss of this movement . It had his warmest approval , and he endorsed Bro . Parke ' s statement that harm to the Craft Charities was l heir furthest thought . He could add nothing to Bro , Parke ' s able exposition , and would therefore simply put the proposition to the meeting . This was done , and the resolution carried unanimously .

Bro . T . G . HOWELL , W . M . elect 137 , and acting P . A . G . D . C , in very hearty terms invited Provincial Grand Lodge to hold its next meeting at Huddersfield . The PROV . GRAND MASTER thanked him , and assured him his invitation would receive all consideration , and the decision would be duly communicated .

Bro . BARKER , D . P . G . M ., proposed •" That the best thanks of this Prov . G . Lodge be given to the VV . M ., Bro . J . Clinton Browne , the officers and brethren of ( he Portal I . odge for their excellent arrangements . ' This was seconded and carried by acclamation . The VV . M . of ihe Portal Lodge having replied , and there being no further business , Prov . Grard Lodge was closed .

An excellent tea was provided at the Masonic Hall , Eastgate , of which upwards of 30 brethren parlook . The P . G . M . was present , and a most enjoyable evening was spent .

A meeting of the above Provincial Priory was held at the Masonic Rooms , Queen-street , Chester , on M inday , the 4 th inst ., under the banner of the Grosvenor Preceptory . Sir Knight Hugh Lowndes , E . P ., opened the preceptory , the muster roll was called , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed .

PROVINCIAL PRIORY OF CHESHIRE .

At this singe of the proceedings E . Sir Knight VV . S . Sutton , Grand Sub-Prior , assumed the throne in order to formally instal Sir Kni ght Hugh Lowndes , P . E . P ., on the throne for the second year , and he vvas duly saluted

and declared . The Sub-Prior tlnn opened Grand Priory , the muster roll was called , and thc minutes of the list Grand meeting ( which is some years since ) were read and confirmed .

It was then announced thai , the Right Hon . the Earl of Fusion , G . C . T ., Great Sub-Piior of England and Wales , demanded admittance , along wilh his officers . They were received under an arch of steel with great dignity , Sir Kn ;; -ht Gordon acting as Sword Biarer , and Sir Knights K . Newhouse and G . (' unstable as Banner Bearers . Th' ; Great Sub-Prior ascended the throne , and lie was saluted .

V . E . Sr Knight the Hon . Alan de Tatton Egerton , M . P ., Prov . Prior nominate , was announced , and , after preparation , was conducted to the throne under an arch of steel by tiie I ' rov . SJIJ-Prior and Sir Knight P . K . Stevenson , G . Chancellor , and was invested and placed on th * ' . throne by the G . Sin PRIOR of EM-LAND , who said : I must now congratulate you , the Grand Prior of Cheshire , upon being placed in this high position lo which the

sir knights of Cheshire have elected you . I am sure you are quite worth y of the office , and under your able guidance I hope the province will flourish mr re than it has for some - , ears . I have not the slightest doubt that the officers you will appoint this year will support you well , and do the utmost in tlieir power to give you every assistance they possibly can . I must also congratulate you upon another very high office I have just been told you are about to fill , viz ., the Grand Superintendent of the Riyal Arch Chapter of the Province , and I venture to assert you will fill that office also with dignity and abilitv .

The Hon . ALAN DE TATTON EGERTON , Prov . Grand Prior said : Great Sub Prior and Sir , —1 must first thank you for your kindness in coming here to-day with your officers to perform this important function of Kni ght Templary in this county . I am sure it has been a great trouble to you to come so far , and I trust lhat the success of the Order which we hope will

GRAND LODGE OF SCOTLAND .

A Quarterly Communication of this body was held in the Freemasons ' Hall , Edinburgh , on Thursday , the 7 th instant , the Grand Master Mason , Sir Charles Dalrymple , of Newhailes , Bart ., M . P ., presiding . There was a large attendance , including Bros . James Berry , Prov . Grand Master of Forfarshire ; George Christie , Prov . Grand Master of Stirlingshire ; and Lieut .-Col . John Camobsll , Perth , S . G . W .

A statement by the Grand Cashier showed that the income during the past quarter had been ^ 878 , and the expenditure £$ 4 <) and that there had been 1100 entrants to tlvj Order . There hid been ^ 135 voted from thc Benevolence Fund to distressed Masons or widows of Masons .

It was intimated that Bo . Sir Henry C . Macandrew , of Aisthorpe , had asked to be relieved from further service as Provincial Grand Master of Invernessshire in respect of increased professional duties requiring his whole attention . A vote of thanks was accorded lo Bro . Sir Henry for his services to Masonry during his five years of office .

It was resolved that charters be granted to the following new lodges ; Pittsworth , Pittsworth , Queensland ; St . Clair , Cleveland , Q ueensland ; St . David of Springhill and Valley , Brisbane , Queensland ; Aubigny , Crows' Nest and Pechey , Queensland ; and Hope , Bridge Castle , Armadale , Linlithgowshire .

Grand Lodge then proceeded to the nomination of brethren for election as office-bearers at the annual meeting , and the Grand Master was unanimously nominated for re-election . The GRAND MASTER , in accepting this , said tha great wish on his part was not only that justice should be done to individual brethren , but that the interests of the Craft should not suffer .
