dad a delightful entertainment , and was also delighted to see the good feeling existing in the lodge . Bro . A . J . Turner , S . W . 17 G 7 , speaking of the many records established by the lodge , said there was one more record to be oHt-ained . It wis that before ths lod'e was ( vvo years old its first Master should be elected Grand Treasurer . Bros . Williams , P . M . ; Hillyer , P . M . ; and Austen . P . M ., also replied . The Worshipful Master then proposed "The Acting I . P . M ., Treasurer , and Secretary" and regretted the absence of Bro . Col . Lambert , the acting I . P . M ., who was

, doubtless with them in spirit , although prevented by ill-health from attending . With regard to the Secretary he vvas respected and esteemed by all who knew him as the best of Masons . Bro . J . Stephens , P . P . S . G . D . Bucks , Sec , thanked the W . M . for the high encomiums paid him . It was indeed a source of infinite pleasure to hear the hearty reception jivenhim . The lodge had been in existence 11 months and theW . M . had told them that they had a passage at arms in reference to the first Mastership , but he was pleased to say it was a pleasant one . His ambition was tn make the lodge a success , and at

leng th Bro . Bailey wrote— " You prince of good fellows , be it as you wish . I will be the first W . Master . " They could judge whether he was right in the conception of the VV . M . He was pleased at the result because although records had been broken , he had vet another record which would doubtless startle the oldest Mason in the room . The VV . M . had said that was the last time his should have the privilege of presiding as W . M . at the banquet , but he would remind them of the Iadies'jjnight , when he need not say the \ v * . M . vvould ably preside . He hoped the success that had attended them in the past

would also attend ihe ladies' night , and that the idea would be carried out manv years in the future . He was proud to te'l them he had already paid over to the Treasurer the magnificent sum of £ 1000 and that must have necessitated a considerable amount of labour to the W . M . and himself , but labours had been one continuous pleasure . It was their intention to apply for a Royal Arch chapter to be attached to the lodge and he asked those brethren who were Royal Arch Masons to send in their names if desirous of joining . With reference to the Grand Treasurership he hoped that honourable position would in the very near future be conferred upon their W . M . That Bro . Bailey was

worthy of that position was without a doubt , for he was capable of discharging the duties and could grace the office . They hoped he would be successful and that the brethren and their friends would attend Grand Lodge in March next to ensure that result . For all the kindness he ( Bro . Stephens ) had received at their hands he was deeply grateful , and while he vvas received in the same kindly manner he would be theirs to command in the future . Other toasts were given and the proceedings closed . Bro . Rubinstein , Org ., was assisted in the musical programme by Bros . R . Smith , A . Herschel , and Rogers .

The presentation was made on hehalf of the chapter by Comp . T . G . Hodgson , M . E . chapter a suit of Grand Chapter clothing . He referred to Comp . Jos . Todd , and they would all rejoice in his appointment as A . G . D . of C of England . In all that Comp , Todd did there was the true Masonic spirit , and his , work as Treasurer of the chapter , and P . G . Treasurer of N . and E . Yorks , had evidenced his zeal . It was gratifying that H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , as their chief , had been pleased to recognise Comp . Todd ' s work . On behalf of the chapter , he ( the speaker ) had the greatest pleasure in presenting Comp . Todd vvith the Grand Chapter clothing . The M . E . Z . then formally invested Comp . Comp . Todd , who was most heartily received , in reply , expressed his sincere thanks to the companions for presenting him with the beautilul and valuable clothing of an officer of the Grand Chapter of England , and to the ist Principal for his kind and appreciative words in making the presentation . He was free to confess , however , that after the generous presentations made to him only three months ago , he did not expect this additional proof of their goodwill , though he appreciated their kindness all the more . Comp . Todd stated that on that evening he completed 20 years of membership , 24 of which he had been an officer of the chapter , and had always felt the warmest interest in

its welfare and prosperity , and in the work of that , his favourite Degree , he had always had the greatest deli g ht . The chapter , he was happy to say , continued in a most prosperous condition , its meetings vvere always of the most pleasant and instructive character , and its working admirable . He had nothing but pleasant recollections of his association with the chapter , from its members he had ever received the greatest courtesy and kindness , and many of his most cherished and enjoyable periods of Masonic work and intercourse had been spent at the meetings of the Zetland Chapter . In conclusion , Comp . Todd again acknowledged the generous gift of the companions , which , he said , would be worn by him with the greatest pride and pleasure . Comp . Todd was then saluted with Grand honours , and the chapter was shortly afterwards closed .

BRO . CHRISTOPHER SIMS , the representation of whom vve are pleased to be in a position to place before our readers this week , vvas first initiated into the Craft in the month of March , 1882 , taking his Royal Arch Degree in April of the following year , his accession to Mark Iodge being attained upon the 30 th June , 1886 , When we come to take into consideration that he holds the exalted positions of P . M . of Corinthian

Lodge , No . 1208 , to which he vvas installed on 16 th February , 1891 , and Finsbury Lodge , No . 861 ; also I . P . Z . of Kennington Chapter ( into which he was installed M . E . Z . in May , 1894 ) , as well as present W . M . of the West Smithfield Mark Lodge ( dating from December nth , 1894 ) , we think that he must certainly be credited with an amount of zealousness vvhich has rarely been attained in the space of time that has elapsed since his initiation . In addition to the qualfications

to which we have alluded , we find that our brother is an Illustrious Brother of the Invicta Council of the Royal and Select Super Excellent Masters , into which he was admitted in 1888 . The latest achievement of the subject of our portrait is his share in the foundation of the Lewisham Lodge , No . 2579 , of which he is the first W . M . In the creation of this lodge he was cordially

supported by a number of exalted brethren , as will be gathered from the exhaustive report of the consecration and banquet which appeared in a recent issue . It also occurs to us to mention that the first W . M . of the Lewisham Lodge is responsible for six Stewardships , which have been productive of immense benefits to the Institutions connected with the Craft .

HIOHI . AN ' II IIKFSS will be the orderof the night at the forthcoming 231 st anniversary festival of the Royal Scottish Corporation at the King's Hall , Lord Balfour , of Burleigh , presiding .

The W . M . referred to the present prosperous state of the lodge , and remarked that with few exceptions most of the brethren present were his juniors in the lodge . He hoped the brethren would provide him with plenty of work during the ensuing year .
