FRFF . MASONKY OF MOTHERHOOD . —Under the ermine of an Empress , under the rags of a pauper , may beat a molher ' s heart , and the story told of the Czaiina but illustrates this p-int . A number of ladies had been recently invited to the Palace in oider that the Empress might thank them personally for their share in a lecently concluded Charitable entertainment . Of course all of them ( says the Eelm ) , womanlike , were longing to enquire after the little girl , but felt that the query would sound cold and

formal if , according to etiquette , they gave the child all her titles . But there is a wonderful Freemasonry in motherhood , and one of the ladies , whose own sweet little girl was born on the same day as the Grand Duchess Olga—a fact well known to the Empress—said quite naturally , " How is the baby ? " The effect was magical . The Empress ' s face no longer wore what we may call the State smile , but was radiant as she talked of her little pet .

THE NEW PALACE COMPANY ' palatial steamer La Marguerite started on her initial special Wednesday trip to Boulogne from Tilbury at 7 a . m ., on Wednesday last , and calling at Southend , Margate , and Raungate en route , achieved the marvellous feat of carrying over 1500 passengers to and from Boulogne . Three-and-ahalf hours' sojourn in " La Belle France " was greatly enjoyed by this large body ot tourists , and La Margutrite proceeding homewards afterwards , the London passengers arrived at Fenchurch-street Station about 10 p . m . This , we believe , to be a record

passenger freight , so far as Channel trips are concerned , and the fact that the number of passengers carried reached little short of the steamer ' s Channel passenger carrying capacity , bespeaks volumes for the popularity of this company ' s excellent steamer . These special trips will be continued every Wednesday , up to and including 1 st September , in addition to the usual sailings of La Marguerite on Mondays , Thursdays , and Saturdays , ( o and from Margate and Boulogne , and on Sundays to and from Margate only .
