This play , which is to be handsomely mounted , will be tentalively produced at the Theatre Royal , Windsor , as the beginning of a provincial tour , on the 16 th instant , after which Miss Hawthorne hopes , on finding a suitable theatre , to bring the play to London . THE PRINCE OF WALES is to be asked to accept the Royal Order of Scottish Masonry on the occasion of his visit to Edinburgh for the purpose of attending the annual show of the Highland and Agricultural Society .

THE LORD-LIEUTENANT OF IRELAND and Countess Cadogan have not left Ireland , but are residing at the Viceregal Lodge , Dublin . Their Excellencies will take up their residence at Dublin Castle . about the 28 th instant , for the season .

T . R . H . THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OP WALES , Piincess Victoria , and the Duke and Duchess of York , attended Divine service at the church of St . Mary Magdalene , on Sunday morning last , attended by the ladies and gentlemen of the Household . PRINCE ALBERT OF SCHLESWIQ -HOLSTEIN , who has been staying for about a fortnight with Prince and Princess Christian , left Cumberland Lodge , Windsor Park , on Saturday last , upon the conclusion of his visit , for Darmstadt , in order to rejoin his regiment .

BRO . J . H . WHADCOAT , J . P ., P . M . Athelstan Lodge , No . 19 , recently Mayorof Poole , has been unanimously elected on the Court of Assistants of the Spectaclemakers ' Company . Bro . Whadcoat gave £ 1050 to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys at the Centenary Festival last year . AT ST . THE MASSEY -MAINWARINO cup for competition among metropolitan corps of the St . John Ambulance Brigade has been won by the Great Northern Railway Corps , who also took it in 18 95 . Last year the cup was held by East Ham , whose team this year ranked third , a team from the South Metropolitan Gasworks being second . THE RIGHT HON . J . CHAMBERLAIN , Secretary of State for the Colonies , will entertain a house party at Highbury , including the Duke of Devonshire , for the annual banquet of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce , to be held on the 23 rd instant . Bro . the Duke of Devonshire and Mr . Chamberlain will be among the speakers at the dinner .

AT A SPECIAL MEETING ot the managers of the Royal Institution , held on Saturday afternoon last , it was resolved that the Royal Institution be closed on Monday , the day of the funeralof his Grace the Duke of Northumberland , K . G ., the President of the Institution , which post he had held since the year 1873 . He had been a member ever since 1851 .

THE CRIPPLEGATE LODGE , NO . 1613 , will hold its annual ball in the King's Hall of the Holborn Restaurant , on Tuesday , the 17 th instant . A strong committee has been formed under Bro . B . Garner , W . M ., with Bro . W . Medwin , P . M ., 143 , Grahamroad , N . E ., as Secretary , of whom tickets and all necessary particulars can be obtained . The services of Bro . Dan Godfrey , jun . THEIR MAJESTIES THE QUEEN AND THE EMPRESS FREDERIC drove out on Saturday afternoon Iast , _ attended by the Hon . Aline Majendie . His Serene Highness and her Grand Ducal Highness Prince and Princess Louis of Battenberg , with Prince George and the Princesses Alice and Louise , arrived at Osborne , having crossed over from Portsmouth on board her Majesty's yacht Alberta , Rear-Admiral Fullerton , A . WE REGRET to ' state that the death of Lady Edith Cecil Bootle-Wilbraham , the youngest daughter of Bro . the late Lord Lathom , took place on Thursday , after much suffering , at Gloucester-place , Portman-square . The remains of the deceased will be conveyed by train from Euston Station on Sunday next to Lathom House , Ormskirk , Lancashire , and the funeral is fixed for Monday at 12 o ' clock . The deceased will be buried in the family vault wherein lies the remains of Bro . the late Lord Lathom .

THE DUKE OF RICHMOND AND GORDON , K . G ., who is now at Goodwood , has quite recovered from the effects of the severe chill which seized him while travelling from Scotland to the South . His Grace honoured the annuil servants' ball at Goodwood with his presence , as did also Bro . the Earl of March and other members of the family , Lady Caroline Gordon Lennox opening the ball in a country dance with Mr . Cheesman , the house steward .

AT A MEETING of thc General Council of the Gordon Memorial College Fund to be held on Wednesday , the iSth inst ., at the Bank of England , a statement of the accounts of the fund will be submitted and subsequently published . It is requested that the amount of the subscriptions received up to date on the lists opened in various parts of the country be communicated to the honorary secretary , 67 , Lombard-street , London , on or before to-morrow . ( Saturday ) .

THE FIRST NUMBER of the new weekly [ ournal which is to wage War Against War ( the title thereof ) makes its appearance to-day ( Friday ) . The editor , Mr . Stead , sounds the " clarion call of duty" in no uncertain tone . Mr . Rudyard Kipling's famous " Recessional " is republished in a niche which is to be devoted to poetry , and which is somewhat curiously named " The Crusade Psalter . " Then there are " Views from many standpoints , " including those of Mr . Balfour , Lord Northbrook , Lord Ashbourne , and the Duke of Argyll . Mark Twain , in an article he has written lor the second number of War Against War , says— "The Czar is in favour of disarmament . So am I . There ought to be no difficulty about the rest ot the world . "

AT THE RETFORD POLICE COURT on the 9 th inst ., before the Mayor ( Mr . Peatfield ) , Mr . J . A . H . Hirst , Mr . P . Tomlinson , and Mr . G . Cutts , a man giving the name of James Warburton was brought up in custody charged with obtaining alms by fraudulently representing himself to be a Freemason . Captain Thomas , superintendent of the Retford police , said the prisoner called upon him on Saturday night about nine o ' clock and asked him , as the Almoner for the Retford Lodge of Freemasons , to give him relief . He challenged his statement as to his being a Freemason , and he said he was a member of the Blagdon Lodge , Blythe , Northumberland , No . 659 and hid been

, for 28 years . He tested this statement , and the prisoner admitted that he was not a member of the Blagdon Lodge . He found a letter in his pocket purporting to be from the Secretary of the Blagdon Lodge , enclosing him £ 3 on the 4 th November , 1 S 9 S , and signed Wm . Smithson . There was no secretary of that name , the Secretary being Mr . Malkensrose , who had telegraphed to say that Jas . Warburton was not and never had been a member . Prisoner admitted he wrote the letter himself , and he now

said he was guilty . He was further charged with being the man who , at Cheadle , in Staffordshire , under the name of Bradburn , was convicted ot a similar offence and sent to gaol for seven days with hard labour . The superintendent of police slid there was so much of this thing going on that he had been instructed to prosecute everyone of the impostors who came round . _ Prisoner pleaded guilty and said he knew he had done wrong . Sentenced to 14 days imprisonment with hard labour . —Sheffield Telegraph .

MR . REID , the New South Wales Premfer , has offered the post of Agent-General for the colony in London to Sir Julian Salomons , who , it is believed , will accept the appointment . H . R . H . THE PRINCE OF WALES is to be asked to accept the Royal Order of Scottish Masonry on the occasion of his visit to Edinburgh for the purpose of attending the annual show of the Highland and Agricultural Society .

THE LORD-LIEUTENANT OF IRELAND and Countess Cadogan have not left Ireland , but are residing at the Viceregal Lodge , Dublin . Their Excellencies will take up their residence at Dublin Castle . about the 28 th instant , for the season .

T . R . H . THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OP WALES , Piincess Victoria , and the Duke and Duchess of York , attended Divine service at the church of St . Mary Magdalene , on Sunday morning last , attended by the ladies and gentlemen of the Household . PRINCE ALBERT OF SCHLESWIQ -HOLSTEIN , who has been staying for about a fortnight with Prince and Princess Christian , left Cumberland Lodge , Windsor Park , on Saturday last , upon the conclusion of his visit , for Darmstadt , in order to rejoin his regiment .

BRO . J . H . WHADCOAT , J . P ., P . M . Athelstan Lodge , No . 19 , recently Mayorof Poole , has been unanimously elected on the Court of Assistants of the Spectaclemakers ' Company . Bro . Whadcoat gave £ 1050 to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys at the Centenary Festival last year . AT ST . GEORGE ' S CHAPEL , Windsor Castle , on Sunday evening last , a funeral march was played by Bro . Sir Walter Parratt at the close of the service , as a mark of respect to the memory of the lake Duke of Northumberland , who was a Knight of the Garter , and whose banner and insignia hang above his stall in the choir .

THE MASSEY -MAINWARINO cup for competition among metropolitan corps of the St . John Ambulance Brigade has been won by the Great Northern Railway Corps , who also took it in 18 95 . Last year the cup was held by East Ham , whose team this year ranked third , a team from the South Metropolitan Gasworks being second . THE RIGHT HON . J . CHAMBERLAIN , Secretary of State for the Colonies , will entertain a house party at Highbury , including the Duke of Devonshire , for the annual banquet of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce , to be held on the 23 rd instant . Bro . the Duke of Devonshire and Mr . Chamberlain will be among the speakers at the dinner .

AT A SPECIAL MEETING ot the managers of the Royal Institution , held on Saturday afternoon last , it was resolved that the Royal Institution be closed on Monday , the day of the funeralof his Grace the Duke of Northumberland , K . G ., the President of the Institution , which post he had held since the year 1873 . He had been a member ever since 1851 .

THE CRIPPLEGATE LODGE , NO . 1613 , will hold its annual ball in the King's Hall of the Holborn Restaurant , on Tuesday , the 17 th instant . A strong committee has been formed under Bro . B . Garner , W . M ., with Bro . W . Medwin , P . M ., 143 , Grahamroad , N . E ., as Secretary , of whom tickets and all necessary particulars can be obtained . The services of Bro . Dan Godfrey , jun . 's , band have been secured for the occasion .

THEIR MAJESTIES THE QUEEN AND THE EMPRESS FREDERIC drove out on Saturday afternoon Iast , _ attended by the Hon . Aline Majendie . His Serene Highness and her Grand Ducal Highness Prince and Princess Louis of Battenberg , with Prince George and the Princesses Alice and Louise , arrived at Osborne , having crossed over from Portsmouth on board her Majesty's yacht Alberta , Rear-Admiral Fullerton , A . D . C

WE REGRET to ' state that the death of Lady Edith Cecil Bootle-Wilbraham , the youngest daughter of Bro . the late Lord Lathom , took place on Thursday , after much suffering , at Gloucester-place , Portman-square . The remains of the deceased will be conveyed by train from Euston Station on Sunday next to Lathom House , Ormskirk , Lancashire , and the funeral is fixed for Monday at 12 o ' clock . The deceased will be buried in the family vault wherein lies the remains of Bro . the late Lord Lathom .

THE DUKE OF RICHMOND AND GORDON , K . G ., who is now at Goodwood , has quite recovered from the effects of the severe chill which seized him while travelling from Scotland to the South . His Grace honoured the annuil servants' ball at Goodwood with his presence , as did also Bro . the Earl of March and other members of the family , Lady Caroline Gordon Lennox opening the ball in a country dance with Mr . Cheesman , the house steward .

AT A MEETING of thc General Council of the Gordon Memorial College Fund to be held on Wednesday , the iSth inst ., at the Bank of England , a statement of the accounts of the fund will be submitted and subsequently published . It is requested that the amount of the subscriptions received up to date on the lists opened in various parts of the country be communicated to the honorary secretary , 67 , Lombard-street , London , on or before to-morrow . ( Saturday ) .

THE FIRST NUMBER of the new weekly [ ournal which is to wage War Against War ( the title thereof ) makes its appearance to-day ( Friday ) . The editor , Mr . Stead , sounds the " clarion call of duty" in no uncertain tone . Mr . Rudyard Kipling's famous " Recessional " is republished in a niche which is to be devoted to poetry , and which is somewhat curiously named " The Crusade Psalter . " Then there are " Views from many standpoints , " including those of Mr . Balfour , Lord Northbrook , Lord Ashbourne , and the Duke of Argyll . Mark Twain , in an article he has written lor the second number of War Against War , says— "The Czar is in favour of disarmament . So am I . There ought to be no difficulty about the rest ot the world . "

AT THE RETFORD POLICE COURT on the 9 th inst ., before the Mayor ( Mr . Peatfield ) , Mr . J . A . H . Hirst , Mr . P . Tomlinson , and Mr . G . Cutts , a man giving the name of James Warburton was brought up in custody charged with obtaining alms by fraudulently representing himself to be a Freemason . Captain Thomas , superintendent of the Retford police , said the prisoner called upon him on Saturday night about nine o ' clock and asked him , as the Almoner for the Retford Lodge of Freemasons , to give him relief . He challenged his statement as to his being a Freemason , and he said he was a member of the Blagdon Lodge , Blythe , Northumberland , No . 659 and hid been

, for 28 years . He tested this statement , and the prisoner admitted that he was not a member of the Blagdon Lodge . He found a letter in his pocket purporting to be from the Secretary of the Blagdon Lodge , enclosing him £ 3 on the 4 th November , 1 S 9 S , and signed Wm . Smithson . There was no secretary of that name , the Secretary being Mr . Malkensrose , who had telegraphed to say that Jas . Warburton was not and never had been a member . Prisoner admitted he wrote the letter himself , and he now

said he was guilty . He was further charged with being the man who , at Cheadle , in Staffordshire , under the name of Bradburn , was convicted ot a similar offence and sent to gaol for seven days with hard labour . The superintendent of police slid there was so much of this thing going on that he had been instructed to prosecute everyone of the impostors who came round . _ Prisoner pleaded guilty and said he knew he had done wrong . Sentenced to 14 days imprisonment with hard labour . —Sheffield Telegraph .
