accept the portrait , and I trust it will act as a stimulus to those who come after us to follow in the steps of one who is so hi ghly esteemed . All the Warwickshire brethren stood while the presentation was being made .

The Earl of EUSTON said : Worshipful Brethren , —I think that I shall not be saying what is not the unanimous feeling of every member of the Grand Lodge and of every Mark Mason present when I say that we give our very warm and hearty thanks to our brethren in Warwickshire for the handsome present they have made to this Grand Lodge in the portrait of the Marquess of Hertford , Past Grand Master—a portrait most like

him in every way , and most suitable to be placed in this hall , because when he was Pro Grand Master this hall was dedicated to Mark Masonry . During his term of office as Pro G . Master he neglected nothing whatever to bring about the completion of this hall , and acted in every way to establish that harmony and love which should always be carried out among Freemasons . When we have a Pro Grand Master ruling over us as he ruled over us for three years , who kept up a feeline * of

content and harmony amongst the brethren , we can look back to his term of _ office with pleasure and to the man who filled that position with reverence and love , and on his portrait with feelings of appreciation . We most heartily thank the brethren of Warwickshire for g iving us such a portrait to adorn these walls and we trust his lordship will live many years to come here and look at his own portrait . I know you will give a hearty vote of thanks to the brethren of Warwickshire .

_ The Marquess of HERTFORD . - M . W . Pro Grand Master , I feel that being here to- aight it would very ill become me to sit still and take no notice of the extract dinary kindness that has just been exhibited towards me , in the first place by my brethren from my own Province of Warwickshire whom I am so glad to see here to-night . I have to thank them most cordially and heartily for the very great honour they have bestowed upon me in having

my picture painted , and presenting it to Grand Lodge . And next I have to thank you , M . W . Pro Grand Master , and all the brethren , for the very high honour you have done me in allowing the portrait to be placed in this hall , an honour of which any Mark Mason must always be proud . I cannot feel that I have in any way deserved the very far too kind * words of my

Worshipful Deputy Prov . Grand ' Master , Bro . Trevor Perkins , and also you , M . W . Pro Grand Master , but I hope the brethren will believe that I did endeavour during my term of office to do my best , and sincersly trust that I may continue to be able to hel p Mark Masonry for many years to come . Brethren , I may once more thank you for the very high and great-honour you have done me to-night .

Comp . F . J . F . BAILEY , J ., then gave notice of motion that the sum of five guineas should be voted from the funds of the chapter to the Masonic Charity of the Eastern Division of South Wales , for which the Grand Superintendent is this year acting as Steward . Comp . F . J . BAILEY , J . ( W . M . of the Tennant Lodge ) then proposed a very long list of about 36 members of the lodge , as candidates for exaltation seconded b y the M . E . Z ., and supported b y Comp . John T . Hogg , H .

Chapter was then closed , and the companions adjourned to the anteroom , where a sumptuous supper was laid out by Bro . J . H . Dunn . The M . E . Z . presided , supported by the Grand Superintedent , the Prov . G . H ., and nearly all the companions named above , about 70 companions and brethren being present .

Supper ended , the M . E . Z . proposed " The Queen and Royal Arch Masonry , " which was heartily received with musical honours . The toast of "The Grand First Principal , H . R . H , the Prince of Wales , and Officers of Grand Chapter , " was most warmly responded to .

Comp . J f . HOGG , H ., then proposed thc toast of " The Grand Superintendent , Marmaduke Tennant ( the beloved Deputy Grand Master of the Province , after whom the chapter is named ) and Officers of Prov . Grand Chapter , Present and Past , " a toast which was received with the greatest enthusiasm .

The GRAND SUPERINTENDENT replied in feeling terms , thanking the companions for the way they had received the toast , and for the great kindness and hearty welcome extended to him on every occasion when he had the pleasure of meeting them ; he expressed his gratification at the interest taken in Royal Arch Masonry in the province , evidenced by the calling into existence of the new chapter consecrated that day , and thanked the petitioners

warmly receiving the toast , and expressed his deep gratification at the hearty welcome the "Marmaduke Tennant" Chapter had received . He assured the visiting companions that the chapter was in no sense started with the idea of injuring any existing chapter in the town , but rather to unite with the other chapters in helping forward everything that would benefit Royal Arch Masonry in the province . They in the Tennant Lodge felt they could support a healthy chapter , and had been anxious to have one attached to it , that wish was now gratified , and he asked for the new chapter the sympathy and co-operation of the companions of the other chapters in the province .

Comp . F . J . F . BAILEY , J ., who received , as usual , a most kindly greeting , regretted that the fatigue consequent upon the labours connected with the day prevented his replying to the toast as he would like to have done . It was a proud moment to him to see a chapter attached to his beloved lodge started on a successful career of usefulness . In their desire to obtain the chapter , they had feared opposition , but on every hand they had received kindness

and encouragement , and in the first minutes of the chapter would be recorded , to be read long after they shall have passed away , the resolutions passed by the St . John ' s and Sir George Elliot Chapters , and the letters which accompanied them , resolutions and letters which were a credit to the chapters who carried them , and the companions who wrote them , and would stand for all time as an evidence of the friendly relationship existing between the chapters

in Cardiff and the province . He then proposed the toast of "The Consecrating Officers , " expressing his pleasure at their being -Jected honorary members , which would at least ensure their being posted up with all proceedings of the chapter , and he trusted they would , as often as possible , visit the Marmaduke Tennant Chapter , where they might always be sure of a hearty welcome .

Comp . HY . SIMONS , P . P . G . S . E ,, responded , and thanked the companions for electing him an honorary member , saying he had done all in his power to help on the affairs of the chapter , and should continue to take a warm interest in it . "The M . E . Zs ., officers , and companions of St . John ' s , Sir George

Elliot , and other chapers of the Province was heartily responded to by Comps . R . S . FISHER , P . Z . 3 6 ; C . CAREY THOMAS , P ' / .. ejfio ; HODGES , H . 1754 ; and T . RODWAY HUNT , all of whom expressed their pleasure at seeing the Marmaduke Tennant Chapter consecrated , and their belief that it would have a beneficial effect upon Royal Arch Masonry in the province .

" The Visitors " was responded to in a most earnest and encouraging speech by Comp . J . H . TAYLOR , 3 6 , H . 1069 . He expressed his pleasure at being present at one of the most successful Royal Arch Masonic gatherings it had ever been his good fortune to attend , and said he had never

heard such a list of candidates read out as was proposed b y Comp . Bailey , ] ., and he was particularly pleased to lind the chaptei started on its charitable career by the n ) tice of motion given by Comp . Bailey , that five guineas should be given to the home Charity of the province , a Charily which , in his opinion , was doing an enormous amount of good .

" The Officers" was responded to by nearly every one of thc officer ' , excepting the Treasurer ( who had been obliged to leave earlier ) , all the officers pledging themselves to in every possible way devote themselves to the well-being of the chapter and the advancement of Royal Arch Masonry .
