The cortege lelt the hall a little after two p . m ., the procession being led by the butler , followed by the estate agent , and members of the Manor Office staff , After the undertakers came the hearse with its escorts , consisting of oflicers of the ist Durham Artillery Volunteers and members of the quarry and estate staffs . came the captain and crew of Sir Hedworth ' s yacht , the Athene . Then followed the most numerous section of thc procession , the Freemasons , and the rear of the cortege was made up of deputations from and representatives of various institutions and bodies with which the deceased was associated . The little church was only able to accommodate a small portion of those who desired to gain admittance . The service was co-nmenced by the hymn " Days and moments quickly flying , " and ended with the playing of the Dead March in

" Saul . " The officiating clergy were the Rev . C . G . Hopkinson , vicar of Christ Church , Sunderland ; the Rev . G . H . Ashworth , and the Rev . W . R . Blenkinsop , both of Whitburn . The service at the graveside was read by the Rev . C . G . Hopkinson . The coffin , ot oak with brass mountings , bore the following inscription : " Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., borri March 25 th , 1827 ; died August 26 th , 1900 . BRO . L . F . LITTELL , P . G . PURST . Bro . L . F . Littell , whose death on the 28 th ult . it is nur sid duty to record was initiated in the Dalhousie Lodge , No . 860 , on 13 th October , 1864 . In 186 7 he was appointed to fill the Junior Warden's chair , and the year following was promoted to that of Senior Warden . In 1869 he had the honour of biing chosen W . M ., and his services in that capacity were highly appreciated

by the members . In the year 1 S 71 he took an active part in the promotion of the Kennington Lodge , No . 1381 , and was appointed its acting Past Master . In 1874 he was elected Treasurer of his mother lodge , but two years later , at the unanimous request of the brethren , he vacated that post in order to assume the Secretaryship . He was also a Founder and first Senior Warden of the Alliance Lodge , No . 1827 ; and when , in November , 1881 , he completed his term

as W . M ., in which office he succeeded Bro . Sir John B . Monckton , he was presented with a handsome silver jewel as a memorial of the zeal and ability he had shown in fulfilling the duties of the chair . In 18 S 2 Bro . Littell had the honour of being appointed Assistant G . Pursuivant , and the following year was made G . Pursuivant . He had served as Steward to the R . M . Benevolent Institution , of the Male Fund of which he was a Life Governor .

BRO . FRANCIS HENRY EBSWORTH , P . M . We regret to announce the death of Bro . Francis Henry Ebworth , P . M ., the oldest member of the Perfect Ashlar Lodge , No . 1178 . Bro . Ebsworth was initiated in the Mount Lebanon Lodge , No . 73 , on the 15 th March , 1864 , and served all the offices in that lodge . He was one of the Founders of the Perfect Ashlar Lodge , passing through all the offices , and held the office of Treasurer of

this lodge for 27 years . He was a Life Governor of all the Institutions , and was a most active Mason , and devoted much time and money in the cause of charity . Bro . Ebsworth was a chartered accountant , and of late had been much over , worked . He was taken with a fit of paralysis on the 16 th ult ., and passed away on the 25 th ult ., regretted and respected by all who knew him . He was interred on the 30 th ult ., at Nunhead Cemetery ; there being a large gathering of the brethren present on the occasion .
