REPORTS OF MASONIC MEETINGS .

( Craft JHasouru . TEMPERANCE - IN - THE - EAST LODGE ( No . SgS ) . —An important meeting of the above old lodge was held at the Assembly Rooms , Newby-place , Poplar , on the 26 th ult . Lodge was opened by the VV . M ., Bro . C . Chapman , who was well supported as follows : Bros . G . Graveley , S . W . ; F . VV . Pulsford , J . W . ; J . B . Waller , P . ALTreas . ; C Wyatt Smith , P . M ., Sec . ; G . Siddars ,

been read , were unanimously confirmed as a correct account of the last lodge meeting , and the ballot-box was brought into requisition on behalf of Air . John McCarthy , a candidate for admission into the Order . This proving favourable , the W . M . proceeded to initiate him in a manner at once careful and impressive . The candidates for the other Degrees not being in attendance , this concluded the

ceremonial working , and the brethren proceeded to discuss a notice of motion introduced by the worthy I . P . M ., Bro . Finch— "That £ 25 be taken from the General fund to form a nucleus of a Benevolent Fund ; and that £ 1 is . be taken from each initiation fee , and 10 s . Gd . from each joining fee , and added to such fund . " This important step was amply discussed at length , and was finally carried , as was

also a motion of Bro . Graveley , S . VV ., necessarily arising out of the former— "To revise the bye-laws ; " a strong Committee being elected for that purpose . In the course of the discussion , we gathered that the lodge has the proud satisfaction of being Vice-Patrons of two of the Alasonic Inftitutions , and th . it about £ 20 more will entitle it to the same honourable position with respect

to the remaining Institution . We congratulate the'Temperance-in-the-East Lodge upon so satisfactory a position with regard to our Charities , and une which testifies to the capital manner in which that distinguished virtue of the Craft—Charity— is inculcated and practised .

After lodge was closed the brethren spent a pleasant hour with the VV . AI . and his officers , and the usual toast list was honoured , and the proceedings were capitally enlivened with some excellent songs ; Bro . Sherwin , as usual , proving a most able accompanist , and the brethren separated in harmony .

CORINTHIAN LODGE ( No . 13 S 2 ) . —A specially convened meeting of the above kidge was held on Tuesday , the ist inst ., at Bro . VV . Clark ' s hostelry , the George Hotel , Glengall-road , Millwall . In the absence of the VV . AI ., Bro . G . T . Limn , through continued indisposition , the duties of the chair were executed by die I . P . M ., Bro . VV . Alillington , in a highly satisfactory manner . The

W . AL was supported by Bro . S . T . Finch , P . AI . 217 , S 98 , & c , as S . W . ; Stapleton , J . VV . ; J . Delves , I . P . M . ; J . Carnaby , P . M ., Treasurer ; C . Searell , P . AL , as S . D . ; Marsh , as J . D . ; VV . Claik , as I . G . ; and a fair gathering of the brethren , many of whom were prevented putting

in an appearance owing to the great pressure caused by the embarkation of the troops drafted to the seat of war in I ^ SVPt . The business before the lodge was to initiate two gentlemen into the mysteries of the Order , Alessrs . William Blackburn ( already balloted for ) and Josii Anacleto Ramos , which work was performed in a careful and impressive

manner . Lodge was closed and a pleasant hour was spent , after partaking of some light refreshments , and the usual loyal and Craft toasts were heartily given and responded to . Some capital songs were furnished by Bros . Stapleton , Clark ,

Parkinson , Saunders , Delves , Bonner , Alarsh , Wilson , and others ; Bro . Stephens also giving two readings , all of which were heartil y enjoyed . Amongst the visitors were Bros . T . S . ABERCORN LODGE ( No . 1549 ) . —The regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Abercorn Hotel , Great Stanmore , on the 5 th ult ., when the following members were present : Bros . C . Long , W . M .,- K . Barnford , S . W . ; G . Tidcombe , P . AL , as J . W . ; C . Veal , secretary ; E . I . Villiers , S . D . ; R . C . Puckett , I . G . ; R . Ray , I . P . M . ; ' J . Didsbury , Folman , Haynes ; and visitor , Bro . F . TI . Bennett , 12 S 0 . 'The lodge was duly opened , and after confirming the minutes of the previous meeting , Bros . Folman and Didsbury were raised to the Sublime Degree of AI . M . Bro . Bamford was unanimously elected W . AI . for the

ensuing year , also Bro . Dr . Rogers again as Treasurer , Bro . Aliddleton having his appointment renewed as Tyler . The usual Past Master's jewel was voted to Bro . Long , and the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . The usual enjoyable banquet followed , to which the musical brethren contributed much to the success of the

evening . WEST SMITHFIELD LODGE ( No . 1623 ) . — The election meeting of this successful lodge took place on the 20 th inst . at Freemasons' Hall , VV . C . Lodge was duly opened by Bro . VVm . mously confirmed . Bro . Francom was raised to the Second Degree , Bro . Malthouse , in this his final work in the chair , acquitting himself most creditably , and being well supported by his officers . Tbe brethren unanimously elected Bro . T . AlcCIuer Butt , S . W ., to be VV . M . for the ensuing year , and that brother returned thanks . Bro . ) . Howes , P . M ., Treas ., next proposed that Bro .

Ala ! house , their out-going Master , be Treasurer , in his stead ; and Bro . Malthouse was unanimously elected to the honourable position of Treasurer of the lodge funds , the duties of which office our brother promised to discharge faithfully . Bro . VV . Smyth was unanimously ve-elect-sl to fulfil the duties of Tyler ; and some very important topics of lodge

interest were thoroughly discussed and adjudicated upon . Among these should be mentioned the hearty recognition by the lodge of the eminent services tendered by the outgoing VV . Alaster , Bro . VV . Alalthouse , to whom a sum of ten guineas for a Past Master ' s jewel was voted with acclamation . Thc services of Bro . J . Howes , P . M ., retiring Treasurer , were also recognised , Bro . Stevens proposing

a cordial vote of thanks to be recorded upon the minutes of the lodge to Bro . Howes , who , from the founding of the lodge , as an officer , VV . M ., Preceptor of the lodgeof instruction , and for several years their Treasurer , had shown a marked interest in the welfare and prosperity of the West Smithfield Lodge , which Bro . Stephens trusted would not cease now that Bro . Howes had relieved himself

of the duties of the treasury of the lodge . Bro . Lardner , as a co-initiate of Bro . Stephens , seconded this , fully endorsing that brother ' s remarks ; and it was carried with hearty unanimity . "Hearty good wishes" were given , and lodge was solemnly closed . There being no refreshments provided most of the brethren repaired to the adjacent Holborn

Restaurant , where , under the genial superintendence of Bro . Hamp , a capital impromptu repast was enjoyed , and the evening devoted to some excellent music Bro . Egbert Roberts , Organist , was as obliging as ever at the pianoforte , and sang several of his popular songs . Bros . AIcButt , Lardner , "Mallett , J . The brethren then adjourned to the banqueting-room , where , under the presidency of the W . AL , a very pleasant evening was passed , to which Bros . Walker and Goodhead , of the Cathedral choir , contributed in no small degree .

GARSTON—Lodge of Harmony ( No . 220 ) . — The members of the above lodge met on Wednesday , 26 th ult ., at the Garston Hotel , to keep their annual festival and instal the VV . AI . for the year . Though a suburban lodge , the Harmony can boast of nearly a century's honourable work , and bids fair to keep up its ancient traditions . The chair was taken by Bro . E . Humphries , W . AL ; who

M . elected to accept a stewardship to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , and thirteen guineas was voted for that object . 'The brethren afterwards dined together , and a pleasurable evening was spent , a very effective musical programme being provided by Bros . J . P . Bryan , J . R . VVood , E . Humphries , & c

JARROW . —St . Bede ' s Lodge ( No . 1119 ) . — On Wednesday evening , the 26 th ult ., the usual meeting of the above lodge was held in the line new Alasonic Hall , Grange-road , the lodge being opened in _ due form by Bro . A . AlcDougall , VV . M ., assisted by his officers and a numerous assembly of members and visitors . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the

ballot was taken for Mr . D . Roberts , when the candidate was declared to be unanimously elected . Mr . Roberts was in attendance , but , owing to the amount of business , it was arranged to postpone the initiation until an emergency meeting , to be held on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst . Bro . Keible was passed to the Second Degree . The VV . M . laid before the lodge the proposal of Grand

Lodge to increase the yearly subscriptions to the Fund of Benevolence ; and , atter some discussion , it was resolved to instruct the Alaster and his Wardens to vote against the proposed increase at the forthcoming Prov . Grand Lodge , to be held at Darlington in . October . The brethren then proceeded to the election of the VV . AI .

for the ensuing year , when Bro . Hugh Colder , S . VV ., was unanimously elected . Bro . 'Thos . Kenton , P . M ., was reelected 'Treasurer , and Bro . James Horner was likewise re-elected Tvler . Bros . VV . Creer , David Cameron , and W . Ramsey were elected Auditors . The lodge having been closed in harmony , an adjournment was made to the banqueting-room , and a pleasant evening was spent .

UNITED PILGRIMS ( No . 507 ) . —At the meeting of this lodge , held at the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell , on Friday , the 28 th ult ., there were present Bros . J . Bate , VV . M . ; R . very instructive evening resulted from the able working of Bro . Bate , who rehearsed the entire ceremony of the Three Degrees , opening and closing his lodge respectively in each . It was a sufficient evening ' s work , and the brethren expressed their satisfaction with Bro . Bates ' s zeal and capacity . Bro . J . B . Sarjcant was the W . AL appointed for the ensuing meeting .

MERCHANT NAVY LODGE ( No . 7 S 1 ) . —A very successful meeting of the above lodge was held at the Silver Tavern , Buidett-road , on the 2 nd inst . Bro . A . 'The subject of an annual summer banquet was next uuder consideration , and thc brethren resolved that it should take the form of an outing in the country , to which thebrethren could take their wives and their daughters , or , indeed , their sisterscousinsor

, , their aunts , to enjoy the pleasures of a change in the open country , preferably to having a banquet in a hot room in town . A capital Committee having Jjbeen appointed to enquire and report to the lodge on Wednesday next , when brethren who are interested in this affair are invited to attend , a highly interesting meeting was brought to a close , and lodge was adjourned .

We are particularly pleased to note the efficient manner in which Bro . Pringle , the recently appointed preceptor , superintends the working of the lodge , following faithfully in the steps of our esteemed Bro . S Turquand , P . AL , the previous Preceptor . The attendance , too , continues to be good , despite the hot weather , and this lodge may fairly be congratulated upon its continued success .

DALHOUSIE LODGE ( No . S 60 ) . —The regular meetings of the above lodge were continued on Tuesday last , at Bro . Smyth ' s , Sisters Tavern , Pownall Road , Dalston . Present : Bros . Catling , W . Bro . Smyth was elected W . M . for the ensuing lodge meeting , and a profitable meeting was closed in due form and adjourned .

This was suitably acknowledged , and all business being disposed of , lodge was closed in perfect harmony and adjourned .

been read , were unanimously confirmed as a correct account of the last lodge meeting , and the ballot-box was brought into requisition on behalf of Air . John McCarthy , a candidate for admission into the Order . This proving favourable , the W . M . proceeded to initiate him in a manner at once careful and impressive . The candidates for the other Degrees not being in attendance , this concluded the

ceremonial working , and the brethren proceeded to discuss a notice of motion introduced by the worthy I . P . M ., Bro . Finch— "That £ 25 be taken from the General fund to form a nucleus of a Benevolent Fund ; and that £ 1 is . be taken from each initiation fee , and 10 s . Gd . from each joining fee , and added to such fund . " This important step was amply discussed at length , and was finally carried , as was

also a motion of Bro . Graveley , S . VV ., necessarily arising out of the former— "To revise the bye-laws ; " a strong Committee being elected for that purpose . In the course of the discussion , we gathered that the lodge has the proud satisfaction of being Vice-Patrons of two of the Alasonic Inftitutions , and th . it about £ 20 more will entitle it to the same honourable position with respect

to the remaining Institution . We congratulate the'Temperance-in-the-East Lodge upon so satisfactory a position with regard to our Charities , and une which testifies to the capital manner in which that distinguished virtue of the Craft—Charity— is inculcated and practised .

After lodge was closed the brethren spent a pleasant hour with the VV . AI . and his officers , and the usual toast list was honoured , and the proceedings were capitally enlivened with some excellent songs ; Bro . Sherwin , as usual , proving a most able accompanist , and the brethren separated in harmony .

CORINTHIAN LODGE ( No . 13 S 2 ) . —A specially convened meeting of the above kidge was held on Tuesday , the ist inst ., at Bro . VV . Clark ' s hostelry , the George Hotel , Glengall-road , Millwall . In the absence of the VV . AI ., Bro . G . T . ballot was taken for Mr . D . Roberts , when the candidate was declared to be unanimously elected . Mr . Roberts was in attendance , but , owing to the amount of business , it was arranged to postpone the initiation until an emergency meeting , to be held on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst . Bro . AL appointed for the ensuing meeting .

A capital Committee having Jjbeen appointed to enquire and report to the lodge on Wednesday next , when brethren who are interested in this affair are invited to attend , a highly interesting meeting was brought to a close , and lodge was adjourned .

We are particularly pleased to note the efficient manner in which Bro . Pringle , the recently appointed preceptor , superintends the working of the lodge , following faithfully in the steps of our esteemed Bro . S Turquand , P . AL , the previous Preceptor . The attendance , too , continues to be good , despite the hot weather , and this lodge may fairly be congratulated upon its continued success .
