P ., was initiated during his career at Oxford in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , on the 18 th of March , 18 74 , and joined the Lodge of Concord , No . 6 32 , Trowbridge , in December , 18 7 6 . In 1878 he was elected and installed W . M ., and vvas subsequently appointed to the chair of Provincial Junior Grand Warden of Wiltshire . He was exalted to the Royal Arch

Degree in the Wiltshire Chapter , No . 355 , Swindon , on the 17 th December , 1878 , joined the Chapter of Harmony , No . 66 3 , Devizes—but at the time attached to the Lodge of Concord , No . 632 , Trowbridge—in March , 18 S 1 . He is a Life Governor of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . He was M . P . for North Wiltshire from 1880 to 1885 , and since November in the latter 3 'ear has represented the Devizes or Eastern Division of the county . He is Parliamentary Secretary to the Local Government Board under the present administration .

Bro . J AIRD , M . P . for one of the divisions of Paddington , was initiated in the Prince of Wales Lodge , No . 259 , on the 24 th November , 1868 . In 18 77 he helped to found the Evening Star Lodge , No . 1719 , was its first Senior Warden , and in 1879 was installed in the chair of Worshi pful Master . He was installed

Deputy Master of No . 259 in 1890 , and is at the present time a member of the Board of General Purposes , having been appointed on the 4 th June of last year . He is also , we believe , a Royal Arch Mason , is a Vice-President of our three Institutions , and has served as Steward for both Schools , and on two occasions for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution .

HAMON LE STRANGE was initiated in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 3 S 7 , Oxford , while an undergraduate of Christ Church in 1861 , and the year following joined the Westminster and Keystone Lodge , No . 10 . In 18 75 he vvas installed W . M . of the latter , and since then has for many years held the important office of Director of Ceremonies . He was M . E . Z . of the Westminster and

Keystone Chapter in 1878 , and is also a Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden and Provincial Grand Treasurer and Past Prov . Grand H . of Norfolk . He is a Past M . W . S . of the Albert Edward Chapter , Rose Croix , No . 8 7 , King ' s Lynn , and Sov . G . Inspector-General of the Supreme Council 33 ° , A . and A . Rite , for the Eastern District . He has served once as Steward for the Girls' and Boys ' Schools , and is a Life Governor of both those Institutions .

Bro . E . KELLY BAYLEY was initiated in Grand Master ' s Lodge , No . 1 , on the 19 th March , 1866 , and , having held various offices , was elected and installed W . M . in 1870 . DEPUTY GRAND DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . Sir GEORGE GOLDIE , K . C . M . G ., was initiated in the Old Union Lodge , No . 46 , in January , 1881 , and having represented it on the Board of Grand Stewards in 188 7 , elected and installed its W . M . in 1888 . The same year he joined the Drury Lane Lodge , No . 2127 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in 1882 in the Old Union Chapter , No . 46 . In the year 188 9 he was a founder and first Treasurer of the Sterndale Bennett Chapter , No . 2182 , London . He joined the Royal Sussex Chapter , No . 732 , Brighton , in the year 1 S 91 . In the Provincial Grand Chapter of Essex Bro . Clowes has filled the

office of Grand Registrar , and is at present Grand H . Bro . Clowes has been a generous supporter of the Masonic Charities , having served no less than 16 Stewardships , and is Vice-President ofthe three Institutions . Last year Bro . Clowes was elected a member of the Provisional Committee of the Boys' School , and now represents the Province of Sussex on the Board of Management of that Institution . In the Mark Degree Bro . Clowes is a member of five lodges . He is a P . M . of the Constantine Lodge , No . 145 , Colchester , in whicb lodge he was advanced , and at

MCKAY , who has been a member of the Kendal Town Council for about 12 years , and is the present Mayor of the Borough , vvas initiated in the Union Lodge , No . 129 , which meets in that town , in the year 1872 , and rose through the various offices to that of W . Master in 18 7 8 . He is also a joining member of the Underley Lodge , No . 1074 , Kirkby Lonsdale , and was a founder and first W . M . of the Windermere Lodge , No . 2217 . In 1877 he received his

first appointment as a Provincial officer , that of P . A . G . D . of C . of Cumberland and Westmorland , and was promoted to Prov . Grand Director of Ceremonies the year following , to that of Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 18 79 , and to the chair of Prov . S . G . Warden in 1880 . On vacatingthe last office in 1881 he was appointed to the important post of Prov . G . Secretary , and in that capacity has rendered most important services during the years which have since elapsed .

He was exalted in the Kendal Castle Chapter , No . 129 , and has twice presided over it as M . E . Z ., namely in 1880 and 188 3 . In 1877 he was very largely instrumental in bringing about the establishment of the Prov . G . Chapter of Cumberland and Westmorland , and on its formation had the honour of being appointed Prov . Grand Scribe E ., in which capacity , with the exception of the year 1881 , when he vvas installed Provincial Grand Third Principal J ., he has

continued ever since to render most important services to the Province . He was advanced in the Cumberland Mark Lodge , No . 60 , Carlisle , and was a founder and installed first W . M . of the Kent Dale Mark Lodge , No . 195 , Kendal , in 18 7 6 . He has been successivel y Prov . G . M . O ., Prov . J . G . W ., and Prov . S . G . W . in the Provincial Grand Mark Lodge of Cumberland and Westmorland , and a Grand Steward in 18 77 and G . S . Deacon in 1880 of the Grand

Lodge of Mark Master Masons of England and Wales , & c . He was perfected in 18 77 and installed M . W . S . in 1882 in the Philips Rose Croix Chapter , No . 52 , Lancaster , and was a founder and first M . W . S . of the Border Rose Croix Chapter , No . 102 , Keswick , in 1886 , while in 188 7 he had conferred upon him the 32 in the Ancient and Accepted Rite . He was Deputy Prov . G . As regards our Institutions , he is a Vice-Patron of and has served seven Stewardships for the Boys' School , is a Vice-President and thrice Steward for the Girls' School , and a Vice-President and

four times Steward for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , the lists he has at different times taken up having contained some thousands of pounds in the shape of subscriptions from himself and the lodges and brethren of Cumberland and Westmorland . Nor is it among the least of the many services he has rendered to his Province that for the last 16 or 17 years he has acted as its sole Charity representative , and has been invariably successful in securing the election of its various candidates .

GRAND ORGANIST . Bro . EIJVVAUIJ CUTLER , Q . C , vvas initiated in the Jerusalem Lodge , No . 197 , in 1871 , and having passed through the various offices , had the satisfaction of being installed as W . M ., representing the lodge on the Board of Grand Stewards the same year . In the year 188 9 he was a founder and first Treasurer of the Sterndale Bennett Chapter , No . 2182 , London . He joined the Royal Sussex Chapter , No . 732 , Brighton , in the year 1 S 91 . In the Provincial Grand Chapter of Essex Bro . Clowes has filled the

office of Grand Registrar , and is at present Grand H . Bro . Clowes has been a generous supporter of the Masonic Charities , having served no less than 16 Stewardships , and is Vice-President ofthe three Institutions . Last year Bro . Clowes was elected a member of the Provisional Committee of the Boys' School , and now represents the Province of Sussex on the Board of Management of that Institution . In the Mark Degree Bro . Bro . GEORGE J . MCKAY , who has been a member of the Kendal Town Council for about 12 years , and is the present Mayor of the Borough , vvas initiated in the Union Lodge , No . 129 , which meets in that town , in the year 1872 , and rose through the various offices to that of W . Master in 18 7 8 . He is also a joining member of the Underley Lodge , No . 1074 , Kirkby Lonsdale , and was a founder and first W . M . of the Windermere Lodge , No . 2217 . In 1877 he received his

first appointment as a Provincial officer , that of P . A . G . D . of C . of Cumberland and Westmorland , and was promoted to Prov . Grand Director of Ceremonies the year following , to that of Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 18 79 , and to the chair of Prov . S . G . Warden in 1880 . On vacatingthe last office in 1881 he was appointed to the important post of Prov . G . Secretary , and in that capacity has rendered most important services during the years which have since elapsed .

He was exalted in the Kendal Castle Chapter , No . 129 , and has twice presided over it as M . E . Z ., namely in 1880 and 188 3 . In 1877 he was very largely instrumental in bringing about the establishment of the Prov . G . Chapter of Cumberland and Westmorland , and on its formation had the honour of being appointed Prov . Grand Scribe E ., in which capacity , with the exception of the year 1881 , when he vvas installed Provincial Grand Third Principal J ., he has

continued ever since to render most important services to the Province . He was advanced in the Cumberland Mark Lodge , No . 60 , Carlisle , and was a founder and installed first W . John the Evangelist , No . 50 , Manchester . As regards our Institutions , he is a Vice-Patron of and has served seven Stewardships for the Boys' School , is a Vice-President and thrice Steward for the Girls' School , and a Vice-President and

four times Steward for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , the lists he has at different times taken up having contained some thousands of pounds in the shape of subscriptions from himself and the lodges and brethren of Cumberland and Westmorland . Nor is it among the least of the many services he has rendered to his Province that for the last 16 or 17 years he has acted as its sole Charity representative , and has been invariably successful in securing the election of its various candidates .

GRAND ORGANIST . Bro . EIJVVAUIJ CUTLER , Q . C , vvas initiated in the Jerusalem Lodge , No . 197 , in 1871 , and having passed through the various offices , had the satisfaction of being installed as W . M ., representing the lodge on the Board of Grand Stewards the same year . He is also a Royal Arch Mason , and vvas perfected Rose Croix , 18 ° , in the Orpheus Chapter of that Degree , under the Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted Rite .
