( Communicated ) . TO-DAY ( Thursday ) Mr . Sydney Alport takes his annual benefit at the Vaudeville , when ¦• Joseph ' s Sweetheart" will be performed , after which a miscellaneous entertainment will be given , many eminent London artistes appearing .

ON Friday , the 19 th , at the Lyceum , Mr . Richard Mansfield will give a special performance in aid of the funds for the creation of night refuges for homeless poor in the East End . A four-act coined } ' - by C Grunter , entitled " Prince Karl , " will be produced , for the first time in London , with Mr . Mansfield in the title role .

THE Strand Theatre has been leased to a West End manager not wholly unconnected with farcical comedy . A new work will be produced there as soon as Mr . W . Edouin ' s term expires . A MATINEE will be given next Saturday at the Strand , when " Kleptomania " will be played ; this is the first and last morning performance , as " Kleptomania' and " Aladdin " will be withdrawn on that day . " SOPHIE EYRE " finishes her tenancy at the Gaiety next Friday night ; she will take her first benefit on the Saturday . In addition

to appearing as " She , " she will represent " Lady Macbeth , " in tie sleep-walking scene . ¦ THE new burlesque by G . It . Sims and Henry Pettit , called " Faust , up to Date , " will be produced at the Gaiety on the 27 th .

MR . HENRY BRACY will have a farewell matinee benefit on the 24 th , prior to his departure to Australia . A good programme is promised . Mr . Ben Davies is honorary secretary to the benefit committee . Miss FANNY LESLIE is booked to play the principal boy at the

Comedy Theatre , Manchester , in the Christmas pantomime of "Aladdin . " NOVEMBER 3 rd is the appointed day for the production of Chassaigne ' s new comic opera at the Avenue . It is r . amed " Nadgy . "

AT the expiration of the run of "The Still Alarm" at thj Princess ' s , I understand Miss Grace Hawthorne has arranged with Mr . Henry Pettitt to produce " Homes Across the Sea . " This will be early in JVovember . MR . ALFRED CALMOUR produces a now three-act comedy , called

"The Widow Winsome , " at the Criterion matinee on the 15 th November next . ON the withdrawal of "Dorothy" from the Prince of Wales ' s next December , Mr . Planquette ' s new opera , " Paul Jones , " will take its place . This should be produced about the 12 th January . 1889 .

A GREAT Harvest Festival takes place this day ( Thursday ) at the Alexandra Palace . The building is to be decorated with flowers , fruit , corn . & c . I HEAR from very reliable information that the Royal Aquarium is not to be demolished .

FOURTEEN years have passed away since " The Two Orphans " was first produced at the Olympic , yet in Miss Agnes Hewitt ' s revival of the play , Henry Neville is the same vigorous , care-taking actor , playing Pierre , the badly-used , lame knife grinder , with all the manliness as of old , while Mrs . Huntley , the hag La Frochard .

" HENRY DUNBAR , " I am given to understand , w ^ ll be played ab a matinee at the Olympic shortly . SEVERAL alterations have been made in " Carina" at the Opera Comique . It is still drawing big houses , and is likely to for some

time . MADAME SARAH BERNHARDT ' manager has arrived at Vienna to arrange details of her fortnight ' s performances in that city , which are to commence on October 30 th .

OWING to the illness of Mr . A . Maltby on Thursday evening , his part of the private tutor in " Betsy " was played at short notice by Mr . George B . Phillips . "VANITY FAIR , " a new drama in seven tableaux , by Mr . Walter Reynolds , was produced for copyright purposes only at the Theatre Royal , Bristol , on Wednesday last .

BRO . ROBERT BUCHANAN has been commissioned by Mr . Thomas Thorne to write another comedy of old English life for the Vaudeville , to be ready when " Joseph's Sweetheart" ceases to draw . TO-NIGHT , Thursday , at the Victoria Hall , Mr . Sims Reeves will appear and delight his hearers with some of his songs .

MISS GRACIE MURIELLE will shortly make her re-appearance in town in a new piece called " Fool ' s Mate , " specially written for her by F . W . Broughton .

DURING his recent visit to Dalmeny Park , Bro . Henry Irving was presented by Lord Rosebcry with a ring formerly the property , and upon which is an enamel portrait , of David fiarrick . STELLA .
