WEST SMITH , IELD , Chapter No . 1 G 23 . —August 23 rd , at Anderton ' s Hotel , London , E . C . M . E . Compn . Edward Mallet , Z . The exaltation of a brother at this meeting had been anticipated , but at the last moment circumstances prevented his attendance , and the companions were deprived of the pleasure of hearing the beautiful

ceremony as worked by Compns . Mallett and Patrick , both adepts in R . A . Masonry . A candidate for exaltation at ensuing meeting was proposed , and the chapter was then closed . A banquet followed , and a very agreeable evening was spent by the companions , under the presidency of the M . E . Z .

Royal Arch Chapter Meetings.

CHAPTER OP INTEGRITY ( No . 380 ) . 20 th August . —At the Masonic Hall , Moiiey , Yorks , M . E . Comp . W . H . Stewart , Z ., Comp . Quartermaine was duly installed successively into the chairs of J . and H . by Comp . C . L . Mason , P . Z . 304 , 300 , and 380 , and P . P . G . H . AVest Yorks , under the special dispensation of the Grand Superintendent of AA est Yorkshire . Bros . T . Barron , W . M . ; C . Reyner . G . Johnson , and M . H . Sykes , of 380 , were then successfully

ballotted for as candidates , and Bros . Sykes and Rayner , being in attendance , were exalted by Comp . C . L . Mason , P . Z ., & c , the mystical lecture being given by Comp . Verity , P . Z . The thanks of the chapter having been specially voted to Comp . C . L . Mason , P . Z ., for his ready and effective aid on that and many former occasions , and also a vote of congratulation to Comp . Steele , P . Z ., on his recent marriage , the chapter was closed , and the companions adjourned to supper , and spent a pleasant hour or two at the social board .

A meeting of the Belvidere Chapter , No . 503 , was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Maidstone , on AA ednesday , the 22 nd ult ., and was numerously attended . In addition to the usual business , Bros . R . McA _ car and G . F . Baker were admitted to the Order . The members afterwards dined together at the New Inn Hotel , by kind invitation of the Principal of the chapter , Comp . C . G . Long .

FOREST OF DEAN—Royal Forest of Dean Lodge . No . 340 . —August the 22 nd , at the Speech House . Bro . J . L . Piddock , P . M . 338 , approved by ballot at previous meeting , was advanced to the degree of M . M . M ., the ceremony being ably performed by the AV . M . Bro .

M . F . Carter , S . AV ., was duly elected AV . M . for the ensuing year . Bro . S . AV . Hardingham was re-elected Treasurer and Bro . Job AVebb , Tyler . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , where the usual Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

iSFJTKHE annual provincial Grand Lodge of Northumberland was Jlkok ^ ^ Friday , the 31 st ulto ., in the Assembly Rooms , AVest-

various lodges in the province . The provincial lodge was held under the banner of the Northern Counties Lodge , No . 40 ( 5 . An interesting feature in the proceedings of the meeting was the consecration of a new lodge named , by permission of the Provincial Grand Master , "The Ridley Lodge , " No . 2 , 2 ( 50 . The consecration ceremony took place in a most . impressive mannerthe principal

, officers who took part in the ceremony being the Prov . Grand Master ( Sir Matthew AVhite Ridley , Bart . ) . the Deputy P . G . M . ( Bro . Richard Henry Holmes . P . G . D . ) , the Acting Provincial Grand Chaplain ( Bro . Rev . T . B . Nichols , M . A ., P . P . S . G . AV ) , who gave the address and prayers in a most effective manner ; the Provincial Grand Secretary ( Brother B . J . Thompson ) , the Provincial

Grand Registrar ( Bro . J . M . AVinter ) , the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies ( Bro . Adam Robertson ) , and the Provincial Grand Wardens and other officers . Bro . George E . Macarthy , P . M ., P . P . G . R ., was installed as the first AV . M . of the new lodge , and he afterwards appointed the officers for the Ridley Lodge , which wall meet at the Masonic Hall , Maple Street , Newcastle , on the first Tuesday of each month .

In the course of his subsequent address to the officers and members of Provincial Grand Lodge , the Provincial Grand Master expressed how pleased he had been with the compliment that had been paid to him by the brethren who had formed the new lodge in the province . AVhen he heard that they projjosed to pay him the compliment they had done , to call the lodge by his name , he felt highly honoured , and it was impossible for him to

refuse to advance the prayer of their petition , and he had had great pleasure in duly constituting the lodge in accordance with the constitutions of the Order and the charter of the Grand Lodge of England . He expressed his best wishes for the welfare and prosperity of the Ridley Lodge , of which , in the course of proceedings , Bro . Sir Matthew AVhite Ridley was proposed as a member .

The Prov . Grand Master appointed the officers for the year , and Hexham was named as the place of next annual meeting . The ceremony of consecration was one of the most beautiful and solemn that has been witnessed in the north for some years , and the Ridley Lodge was altogether constituted under the most favorable auspices . The musical portion of the ceremony was performed by Bros . John Nutton and G . Leatham . of Durham Cathedral Choir , and Bros R . Ferry , P . G . O ., and R . Liddle , P . G . O

MASONIC UNITY . —AVith reference to the Masonic Union in New South AVales , we are informed that the matter is practically accomplished , as over 100 lodges out of 180 have signified their intention of joining the United Grand Lodge .

Z ., on his recent marriage , the chapter was closed , and the companions adjourned to supper , and spent a pleasant hour or two at the social board .

A meeting of the Belvidere Chapter , No . 503 , was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Maidstone , on AA ednesday , the 22 nd ult ., and was numerously attended . In addition to the usual business , Bros . R . McA _ car and G . F . Baker were admitted to the Order . The members afterwards dined together at the New Inn Hotel , by kind invitation of the Principal of the chapter , Comp . C . G . Long .

FOREST OF DEAN—Royal Forest of Dean Lodge . No . 340 . —August the 22 nd , at the Speech House . Bro . J . L . Piddock , P . M . 338 , approved by ballot at previous meeting , was advanced to the degree of M . M . M ., the ceremony being ably performed by the AV . M . Bro .

M . F . Carter , S . AV ., was duly elected AV . M . for the ensuing year . Bro . S . AV . Hardingham was re-elected Treasurer and Bro . Job AVebb , Tyler . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , where the usual Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

various lodges in the province . The provincial lodge was held under the banner of the Northern Counties Lodge , No . 40 ( 5 . An interesting feature in the proceedings of the meeting was the consecration of a new lodge named , by permission of the Provincial Grand Master , "The Ridley Lodge , " No . 2 , 2 ( 50 . The consecration ceremony took place in a most . impressive mannerthe principal

, officers who took part in the ceremony being the Prov . Grand Master ( Sir Matthew AVhite Ridley , Bart . ) . the Deputy P . G . M . ( Bro . Richard Henry Holmes . P . G . D . ) , the Acting Provincial Grand Chaplain ( Bro . Rev . T . B . Nichols , M . A ., P . P . S . G . AV ) , who gave the address and prayers in a most effective manner ; the Provincial Grand Secretary ( Brother B . J . Thompson ) , the Provincial

Grand Registrar ( Bro . J . M . AVinter ) , the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies ( Bro . Adam Robertson ) , and the Provincial Grand Wardens and other officers . Bro . George E . Macarthy , P . M ., P . P . G . R ., was installed as the first AV . M . of the new lodge , and he afterwards appointed the officers for the Ridley Lodge , which wall meet at the Masonic Hall , Maple Street , Newcastle , on the first Tuesday of each month .

In the course of his subsequent address to the officers and members of Provincial Grand Lodge , the Provincial Grand Master expressed how pleased he had been with the compliment that had been paid to him by the brethren who had formed the new lodge in the province . AVhen he heard that they projjosed to pay him the compliment they had done , to call the lodge by his name , he felt highly honoured , and it was impossible for him to

refuse to advance the prayer of their petition , and he had had great pleasure in duly constituting the lodge in accordance with the constitutions of the Order and the charter of the Grand Lodge of England . He expressed his best wishes for the welfare and prosperity of the Ridley Lodge , of which , in the course of proceedings , Bro . Sir Matthew AVhite Ridley was proposed as a member .

The Prov . Grand Master appointed the officers for the year , and Hexham was named as the place of next annual meeting . The ceremony of consecration was one of the most beautiful and solemn that has been witnessed in the north for some years , and the Ridley Lodge was altogether constituted under the most favorable auspices . The musical portion of the ceremony was performed by Bros . John Nutton and G . Leatham . of Durham Cathedral Choir , and Bros R . Ferry , P . G . O ., and R . Liddle , P . G . O

MASONIC UNITY . —AVith reference to the Masonic Union in New South AVales , we are informed that the matter is practically accomplished , as over 100 lodges out of 180 have signified their intention of joining the United Grand Lodge .
