The Masonic " Poet's Corner."

The Masonic " Poet's Corner . "

{ Origami and Selected . ' ) WHITE-APRONED BROTHERS .

COME , cease from your labors , Ye white-aproned neighbours , And answer my words—Tell us , Who are ye ? " We are friends of humanity , Hating profanity ,

Spurning all vanity , CHILDREN OF PEACEMen who can feel All our own need of kindness , And bless the GREAT GOD , Who hath lightened our blindness . "

Tell us , Wliat do ye ? " By precept , example , We're building a temple , Fair , lofty and ample ,

For HIM whom we serve—Following the plans That our MASTER doth give us , And amply repaid When His servants receive us . "

And Wliat do you work with ? " The Gauge and the Gavel , The Plumb , Square , and Level , And then as we travel

The Trowel we hold—Skilfully these , At first we ' re inducted—Obediently these , In the way we're instructed . "

Your timbers , what are they 1 " The blocks that we quarry , And timbers so heavy , Our hands shape and carry ,

Those Ashlars are men ; Rough Ashlars they are—But hewed , marked and garnished . By precepts divine , Our task will be finished . "

Your resting , when is it 1 " We look for no leisure , Wo sigh for no pleasure , Wo covet no treasure ,

Till SATURDAY NIGHTWages and joys , And a rest without breaking , Wait for us then , In the home that we ' re seeking . " From The Poetry of Free in axon ry , by tho late Dr . ROE MORRIS , Masonic Poet Laureate .

A Brother's Advice.

A BROTHER'S ADVICE .

EVER with Fortune ' s bright sunshine around you , Think well of the hearts torn by sorrow ' s sad throes Objects of pity at times may surround you : Aid them with comforts , to banish their woes . Tho tempests of life are oft sad and appalling , Trouble ' s rough seas oft engulphing the brave : Rush to the rescue when true hearts are falling , Ever be ready a comrade to save !

Never through life turn your back on a Brother Whom tempests have batter'd and wreck'd on life ' s way ; Rather be trying his sorrows to smother , Let prosperity ' s sun lend him our cheering ray . Friendship ' s the link which in life ' s cable bindeth Firmer the Anchor that Hope leans upon : If but one faithful heart a poor slighted one findeth , His haven of life will be cheerfully won .

Friendship.

FRIENDSHIP .

There arc some icy hearts in which the germs Of Friendship ne ' er can grow . You know them long . Yet never would prefer your lot among Such undeveloped manhood : for the forms Of men , but not their souls , are their ' s ; no terms Which they could offer , be they rich or poor , Could bind , our hearts in friendship for an hour ,

Much less for life . Little above the worms To which we all are journeying , are they . The friends we lose by death we can ' t recall , E ' en would we do so , to this earthly ball ; But yet around our path the golden ray Of other Friendships may illume the gloom , And cheer us in our passage to the tomb .
