Jupe , Freeman , and AVrigbtson were examined unci entrusted . The lodge was opened in the third , and they were raised to the

sublime degree of 31 , 31 . The following gentlemen were balloted for , elected , and being present , ably initiated iu the mysteries of ancient Freemasonry : Messrs . West , AVilkie , and Eckford . Three gentlemen were proposed for initiation , and Bro . Chisholm , 382 , for election as a joining member at the next meeting . All 3 Iasonic business being ended , the lodge was closed iu due form and adjourned to the third Thursday in October . The banquet was served a la Russe , and in such a

manner as to reflect great credit on the exctllent manager of the hotel , 31 r . C . Schumann . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given . Bro . T . A . Adams , P . G . P ., the worthy brother from whom nearly all the officers of this lodge have learnt their duties responded lor tlie D . G . 3 I . and Grand Oflicers . In proposing the initiates , the AV . 31 . said ho had that night had the pleasure of initiating in the mysteries of our ancient Craft , throe gentlemen , il ho from their position and the manner in which they

had gone through the ceremony , would , he was sure , do credit to the Craft . Bro . AVilkie responded in a neat and telling speech . In responding to the toast of " The Visitors , " Bro . Adams spoke in eulogistic terms of the excellent working of the lodge , and thanked the brethren for the kind attention shown to the visitors both in the lodge and at the banquetting table . In proposing the " Health of the AV . 3 I . " Bro . Adams complimented him on the very excellent manner in which ho had performed

his duties , and congratulated the brethren on having such a AV . 3 I . to preside over them . The AA' . M . responded in a feeling and eloquent manner . Iu proposing " The Officers , " the AV . 31 . said , 1 am proud to bo supported by such oflicers as mine , from tbe S . AV . to the I . G ., they are perfect in their duties , and one aud all qualified to fill those higher offices—they will , I trust , in course of time , be called upon to fill . In responding , the S . AV . said : AV . M . and Brethren , it is a source of great gratification to

us to find that our efforts to gain a prestige for the G . N . Lodge are appreciated by the brethren , and with regard to the very kind manner in which the W . M . lias been pleased to speak of us . I would

say" Praise from his lips , 'tis ours with pride to boast , " "He best can give it , who deserves it most . " On behalf of the officers , I thank you for the flattering manner in which the mention of our names has been received . "The Tyler ' s" toast brought to conclusion a most pleasant evening , ¦ which was much enlivened by the excellent singing of several members and visitors . ST . C , alter which he was raised to the third degree , the ceremony being very efficiently and impressively performed by the VV . 3 L , with the assistance of Bro . C . Johnson , who presided at the organ , and gave the musical chants , assisted

byseveral brethren . The lodge having been lowered to tbe first degree , 31 r . R . J . Lulham , who had been elected at a former meeting , was regularly admitted into the mysteries of Freemasonry . A cordial vote of thanks was , vma «\ mov \ sly accorded , to Bro . Johnson , P . Prov . G . Org ., and Bro . Crow , Prov . G . Org ., for their valuable assistance in superintending tho repairs and enlargement of tbe organ , which Bro . Johnson acknowledged , and

stated that thanks were due to the AA . M ., who had also devoted much time to the subject , especially in obtaining subscriptions . The lodgo was then closed , anil the brethren adjourned to refreshment .

3 IEM 0 N 3 IOWBRAY . — Rutland lodge ( No . 1 , 130 ) . — The regular meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday , the 7 th . inst ., the AV . 31 ., Bro . Douglas , in tbe chair . Rules for the administration of casual relief were drawn up , and Bro . AV . A . Leadbetter appointed as Almoner . One proposition was made , and the brethren , of whom there was a very small number present , adjourned to refreshment . On Thursday , the 21 st inst ., ats lodwas held to initiate the Rev . C . H . Coryndon

emergency ge Baker , M . A ., when the ceremony was most correctly worked by the AA ' , 31 . and his officers . Bro . Douglas also gave , in his usually faultless style , tbe ancient charge and explanation of the tracing board of the first degree . There was also a proposition / or a joining brother , and the lodge was closed and the brethren for a few hours enjoyed the good things provided by Host Selby .

OAKHAM . —Vale of Catmos Lodge {^ o . 1 , 265 ) . —Thcmonthly meeting of this lodge was held on AVednesday , the 13 th inst ., Bro . the Rev . W . Langley , AV . 3 J . of No . 50 , presiding in place of the VV . M , who was absent on business . The attendance was small , and happily the only work to be taken was the ballot for two joining brethren , Bros . Duncomb and Newcome , both of whom were unanimously elected . This was the last meeting for the season , and the lodge will resume work in October .
