In reference to the occurrence of tho last few days , he ivished to say that he at first imagined thafc he coulcl display his sense of the obligation conferred upon him only by bis future career as a Mason

, and by carrying out tbe principles which lie bad been taught at bis initiation ; yet , hearing that a Masonic temple was projected by the Loclge in ivhicli he had been enrolled , ho thought he might leave a memento in the form of a few stones buried in the building , bidden in the mass , but not useless or unfelt . Little was ho aware , however , that he might thus be sowing the seeds of dissension . He still hoped that his motives would be considered as good , and trusted that be should depart from among themconscious of having endeavoured to clo his duttowards them

Drayton concluded by assuring his friends that ho should at once endeavour to banish the matter from bis thoughts . On the evening of Saturday , June IStli , au emergency meeting of this Lodge ivas held chiefly , for the purpose of passing to the second degree , Bro . Drayton , ivho hacl remained a few clays longer for this purpose . The AV . M ., Bro . Le Cras performed the ceremony of the second degree Avith bis accustomed care and accuracy

to four Entered Apprentices , Bros . Lefeuvre , Le Qvox , Galliehau , and Drayton , receiving some assistance from . Bro . Schmitt ,, P . M ., who afterwards gave tbe explanation of the second degree by the usual illustrations , with the aid of the tracingboard . The Orator , Bro . Ilatier , gave an able extempore exposition of the leading principles of Freemasonry , and especially of tho philosophical tendency of the symbols of this degree . During the evening at least sixty brethren were present , including several gentlemen connected with the newspaper press of the island ,
