, and emergency were read and confirmed . Bro . Walter having answered the usual questions , was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason , tho W . M . performing that ceremony in a very perfect and impressive manner . There being no further business , the lodge was closed iu due form , and the brethren sat down to a very excellent banquet . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given . Bro . John Coutts , I . P . M ., proposed tbe health

of the W . M ., whom ho stated was iu every way qualified to fill that position , and the brethren must have seen that evening the excellent manner the duties of the lodge were performed . Tho W . M . briefly and appropriately returned thanks . The visitors were Bros . Warr , P . M . ; G . Tedder , M . Alexander , 1 S 8 ; Francis . Bro . John Coutts , I . P . M ., in returning thanks for the Past Masters , said he , as well as well as every P . M ., had the interests of the lodge at heart , and he would be happy to become a Steward at the ensuing Festival for the relief of the aged Freemasons and the widows of Freemasons .

VITEUTIAN LODGE ( NO . S 7 ) . —This lodge met at the White Hart Tavern , Lambeth on Wednesday evening , the W . M ., Bro . Cary , iu the chair , supported hy the whole of his officers . There were also present Bro . Morris , P . M . Bro . Forley , P . M . ; Bro . Hill , P . M . ; and Bro . Whiting , P . M . and Secretary . The lodge having been oponed , the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . A ballot was taken for the five gentlemen whose rames were on the summonseswhich proved to bo

, unanimous in their favour ; four of the gentlemen being present were introduced and initiated into the mysteries of the order . Bros . Wood and Eobson were passed to the second degree . Bros . Smith , Sargood , and Knill wore raised to the sublime degree of M . M . The whole of tho ceremonies were very creditably gone through by the W . M ., being ably supported by his officers . The lodge being closedupwards of sixty brethren sat down to an

, excellent banquet . There were several visitors present , amongst whom we noticod Bros . Boyce , W . M ., St . James ' s Lodge ; Rees , P . M ., in proposing the healths of the Past Masters of the lodge , said it was with very great pleasure indeed that ho had tbe opportunity of proposing the toast , seeing that he was

supported by Bro . Fisher , P . M ., the father of the lodge , and Bro . Noke , P . M ., and Treas . for the first time during his mastership . Tho toast having been drank , Bro . Fisher , P . M ., on behalf of himself and the Past Masters , thanked the W . Swann passed , and one gentleman was initiated . Bro . J . Whift ' en , J . W ., took upon himself the office of Steward for the next Festival of the Benevolent Institution , and Bro . F . Walters resigned his membership of the lodge , which was received with regret . There was a choice banquet at the conclusion of the work , and many brethren partook of it .

CATEAC LODGE ( NO . 176 ) . —The ordinary October meeting of this old lodge was held on Saturday , the 9 th inst ., at Radley ' s Hotel . Bro . William Nelson Smith , W . M ., presided , and passed , in able style , Bro . John James Groves to the second degree . Lodge matters were then discussed , and the brethren retired to the banquetting-room .
