Hopkins , AA . M . ¦ designate , announced that the petition for a now warrant bad been granted , and that tbo document was being prepared .
Progress was made in the arrangements , and tbo byodaws wero agreed upon . Tbo brethren then rehearsed tho . ritual of tho degree . Since tbo meeting on tbo second , tho warrant bad been received , and tho bye-laws havo been sanctioned by tho proper authority . It is intended to open tho Pleiades Lodge of Mark Masters , No . 20 , on Thursday , January 23 rd , when tbe W . M . will be installed by V . W . Bro . Vincent Bird , W . M ., St . Aubyn ' s Lodge , 111 , and several candidates , will be advanced to this degree .

BlREEECK LITERATI'S AXD SCIENTIFIC INSTIUTIOIT , SOUTHAMPTON BUILDINGS . —The 176 th Quarterly Report of this long established Institution was recently presented to the Members . It appears that while many similar establishments are decaying , this Institution is in a very flourishing condition . The year just ended shows that the income has exceeded the expenditure by £ 30 . Tbe Lectures and Entertainments , which have been given by the Eev . J . M . Bellew , Mr . and Mrs . Howard Paul ,
Messrs . Edmund Yates , George Dawson , George Buckland , & c , & e ., have been well attended , and have given great satisfaction . The classes , in which instruction is given in all branches of education , are in a very satisfactory condition , A large number of tbe Members have distinguished themselves at various public examinations , many carrying off valuable prizes . Tbe Distribution of prizes by the Earl and Countess Russell , in October last , was very successful ; the demand for tickets was so largo
that the issue had to be suspended some days prior te tbe ceremony . The Library , which contains nearly 6000 volumes , and the Reading Soom , which is supplied witli all the principal newspapers , Periodicals , anq Magazines , are well used and appreciated . The number of persons who have joined either the Institution or its classes , has nearly reached the large total of 1100 . This is the highest number within the memory of the present management . Altogether , the Institution is in a highly satisfactory condition .
