it having been called for the purpose of enabling Bro . F . AVhitaker , P . M ., P . J . G . D ., to present to the lodge a large oil painting of the respected Tyler , Bro . John Greenwood , P . JI ., to be livmg in the lodge room . The lodge was opened soon after six by the W . JI ., Bro . AV . H . D . Borstal ! , and there Avas a good attendance of the officers and members , with a few visitors , including the painter of the portrait , Bro . Siddall , of Douglas , IsleofJlan . , was closed , and the brethren adjourned to supper . The cloth having been withdrawn and the usual loyal and Masonic toasts given , the health of Bro . Whitaker was proposed by the AV . M ., who alluded to the various means Bro . AA'hi taker had taken to further the interests of several charitable'institutions of the Craft in every way , and gracefully referred to the handsome present he had just made to the lodge , as , in addition to the portrait , he had also generously been at the expense of Bro .

Greenwood's fortnight ' s sojourn in the Isle of JIan to give sittings to the artist . Bro . AA'hitaker , in responding to tbe toast , mentioned that the artist and Bro . Greenwood were both in their 70 th year , a fact which rendered the painting—in itself a Avork of art—all the more valuable . Bro . Firth , I . P . M ., then proposed the health of Bro . Greenwood , and spoke in glowing terms of tbe respect in which that brother was held , not only by the members of the De AVarren , but also of the various lodges in the neighbourhood where be was acting as Tyler . Bro . Greenwood , in reply , remarked that he was made a Mason in

3 . 822 , and had contintued a subscribing member of his mother lodge ever since . He described how he Avauted to be made when he Avas 20 years years of age , and how disappointed he was to find he had to wait another year , for he was told by his friend to whom he applied " that they did not make lads . " He had always endeavoured to discharge his duties to the utmost of his ability , and Avas never so happy as when in the company of Jlasons ; in fact he scarely kept any other company . He

especially thanked Bro . AVhitaker for his kindness towards him , and said he felt deeply thankful to all the brethren for the good , feeling which had been so frequently shown to him . Bro . F AA'hitaker then said he was proud he had been entrusted by the W . M . Avith the next toast , which was that of the artist , Bro . Siddall . He had known him for some time , and felt convinced , when he placed the order in his hands , he would produce a picture alike creditable to himself , to Bro . Greenivood , and the brethren in

general . Bro . Siddall sincerely thanked the brethren for the invitation to be present that evening , which he had considered a great privilege . He Avas himself only a young JIason , but the more be saw of JIasonry the more he liked it . Several candidates were proposed for installation , aud the

E . C . closed the Encampment in due form . A Priory of the Order of Malta was afterwards opened , when Sir Knts . J . D . Kay , J . AA ' ordsworth , and J . F . Frolich , were installed as E . Priors , and Sit Knt . J . F . Atkinson was installed a K . M . The Priory ivas then closed in due form . The Kn i ghts were afterwards entertained , in a homely but fraternal

manner , in the banquet room of the Hall , by the E . C . Sir Knt . J . D . Kay . This Encampment bids fair soon to take a position and second to none in the province . The founders have evidently made an excellent choice , not only in fixing upon Leeds for the location of the Encampment , bnt also in the selection of E . C . and officers ! The most cordial fraternal feeling aud unity prevails amongst * all the members and , as far as well can be foretold , the future of the Eucampment will be most prosperous .
