ISTOAV abideth faith , hope , and
charity , these three , but the greatest of these is charity . " ( Corinthians xiii . 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 13 . ) Secondly , Temperance , Fortitude , and Prudence . — "Temperance shall chasten you , fortitude supportyon , and prudence direct you" ( Masonic Lectures ) ; and , thirdly , to the threefold vows originally taken by the poor fellow-soldier of Jesus Christ ( Knights of the Order of the Temple ) .
Poverty , Chastity , and , Obedience . Poverty . — " The foxes have holes , and the birds of the air have nests , but the Son of Man hath not Avhereto lay His head . " ( Matt , viii ., 20 ) . Chastity . — "This , I say then , walk in the Spirit ,, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh . Nowthe
, Avorks of the flesh are manifest , Avhich are theseadultery , fornication , uucleanness , lasciviousness . " ' ( Ephes . v . 16 , 19 . ) Obedience . — "Let every soul be subject unto the higher pOAvers , for there is no power but of God ; the poAvers that be are ordinances of God . For rulers

John the Evangelist ,. Avho finished by his learning what the former commenced by his zeal . The candles are symbolical of
the three persons of the " Blessed Trinity , of Avhom the Godhead of the Father , of the Sou , aud of the Holy Ghost is all one , the glory equal , the majesty co-eternal , so that in all things the unity in Trinity aud the Trinity in unity is to be Avorshipped .
