acquaintance , having found him an instructor in the Craft , when he entered ifc . He felt the deepest debt of gratitude was due to him for Ai hat he ( Bro . Savage ) knew of Freemasonry , and he Avas an esteemed friend . He took him by the hand , for when lie fust entered the Emulation Lodge of Improvement , Bro . Stephen Barton AVilson ivas in the chair thirty years ago » working the third degree , and when he solicited his aid Bro

AA'ilson cheerfully gave it to him , as he did to other brethren . He would not detain Grand Lodge , for his feelings Avould not allow him to make those remarks ho could address to them , ' but he fully believed that the Craft owed him a debt of obligation which , the never could repay . Ho entirely agreed iu all that had been said by Bro . Forster as to

young members of the Craft , and he begged to second the resolution , believing that it would be a long time before the vacancy caused by the death of Bro . Stephen Barton AA'ilson could be filled up , for no ono ivas so capable of filling his position ns himself . He was able to give a reason for everything he asserted , he was ready to answer any questions as to their

ceremonies or lectures , his information Avas most valuable , and he deeply studied those great principles with which ho stored his well cultivated mind , and his ( Bro . Savage's ) deep regret was that amongst " fche old familiar faces" they should see him no

more . The resolution was then put and agreed to unanimously . COALS POB THE ASYLUM . Bro . JOHN UDALL , P . G . D ., moved that tho sum of £ 50 be given from the Fund of General Purposes . That the money be placed in the hands of the Secretary of the Asylum of the

Eoyal Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons and their AvidoAvs . to supply the inmates at Croydon Avith coals during tho winter season . The motion Avas agreed to , and Grand Lodge ivas closed in aiiijile form and with solemn prayer .

The minutes of the last meeting , held at Chelmsford in 1863 , having been confirmed , a statement of accounts for the past three years was presented , showing a balance in hand of rather over £ 70 .

Among other correspondence read was a copy of a letter addressed by the brethren of the Chelmsford Lodgo to the Deputy Provincial Grand Master ( Bro . Major Skinner ) , condoling with him in his serious illness , with Bro . Skinner's reply thereto , Avritten , as it stated , from his death bed , expressing the satisfaction he had had in being a Mason for over forty years and his good wishes for every lodge in the province . A letter

was ordered to be written on behalf of the Provincial Grand Lodgo , expressive of the sympathy of every brother with tlie Deputy Grand Master in this his great hour of trial . On the motion of the Rev . Chaplain ( whospoke in high terms of the usefulness of the Institution ) , seconded by Bro . Becker , and supported by Bro . Matthews , a donation of £ 10 10 s . was

voted to the Essex and Colchester Hospital ; also donations of £ 5 5 s . each to the four principal Masonic Charities , viz ., the Boys' and Girls' Schools , the Benevolent Institution , and the AA'idows' Fund .
