DUMFRIES . HIOVIHCIAI . GEAND LODGE , ^ On Tuesday , 25 th instant , the Provincial Grand Lodge of Dumfriesshire hold a meeting for the purpose of joining the magistrates of Dumfriesshire in doing honour to the memory of the poet . The R . AV . Bro . John Stewartof Nately HallProv .

, , G . Master , presided at a Prov . Grand Lodge which Avas opened in the Freemasons ' Hall , the following Lodges being present : —the Thistle , St . Michael ' s , ancl Operative Lodges of Dumfries ; St . Peter ' s , Moiisiralcl , and St . John ' s , Neiv Abbey . The Provincial Grand Lodgcjof Cumberland sent representatives , beaded by the R . AV ., Bro . Croft Morgan Dew , jlf . il . Among the Brethren from Cumberland , we observed Bros . Lemon , Prov . S . G . AV . ; Jackson , Prov . J . G . AV . ; Fletcher , P . Prov . S . G . W . ; DeesProv . S . G . AV . ; SawyerRoper & c . Tbe Lodges represented

AVe also noticed the R . AV . Bro . Chas . Stewart Laiv , Grand Secretary of Scotland , present . The Prov . Grand Lodge of Dumfries having been opened in due form , and having received the representatives of the Prov . Grand Lodge of Cumberland , the Prov . Grand Alaster intimated to the Brethren that they had been called together

to do honour to their national bard , as well as to lay the foundation stone of the Dumfries and MaxiveltOAvn Mechanics' Institute . After a short address to the Brethren , tho Prov . Grand Lodge ivas adjourned to join the procession , which was on a scale of magnificence never before witnessed in Dumfries . The magistrates , clergy , and local dignitaries swelled the ranks , which ivere closed by the Masonic Lodges , numbering in all one hundred and forty-tivo . Brethren . On arriving at Nith ' s Place , the procession halted , and alloived the members of

the Craft , tho magistrates and councillors , and members of the institute to enter tho grounds , AU having take-up then ; respective positions , the Key . J , J , Dick"
