He was proud in having been more than once elected to the high position of chief magistrate of thi .-i city , the duties of which he had been enabled to perform ivith satisfaction to himself ancl his fellow-citizens ; and he was more pleased that he hacl been enabled to clo so because he hacl taken his lessons injustice and charity under able Masons in tho Masonic Hall .
