ROYAL OAK LODGE ( NO . 871 ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held at tho Royul Oak Tavern , 172 , High-street , Deptford , on Wednesday , the 22 nd ult . Precisely at five o'clock p . m . the lodge was opened by the W . M ., Bro . Frederick Walters . The minutes of the previous lodge meeting were read and unanimously confirmed . Ballots taken separately were unanimous in favour of the admission of Messrs . Harvey , Harris , and Letton . The work done was the passing Bros . Dawo , I-Iarman , Pakes , aud

Simmons to the second degree . The AV . M . having to attend to the Lodgo of Benevolence to support tho case of the widow of a deceased member , which had been recommended by this lodge , he was compelled to retire . Bro . AV . Andrews , P . M ., then took the chair , and proceeded to pass Bro . Lea to the second degree , and initiate Mr . O Letton . Five pounds were voted to the Male Annuitants' Fund from the lodge funds , which completed the purchase of a life governorship of that charity , in the name of the

Lewis , who was supported by all his officers , namely , Bros . j . BI . Vaugiian , S . AV : ; T . Morton , J . AV . ; A . E . T . AVorloy , S . D . and Sec . ; 0 . Vidler , J . D . ; and J , Dennis , I . G . Thero was also a goodly array of the P . M . ' s . including Bros . J . Smith , Treas . ; T . Lewis , ( P . G . Purst . ) , W . H . Farnfiold , G . Chard , and J . A . Farnfiold . The visitors woro Bros . Ruston ,

00 ; and Turner , 180 . Tho lodgo having boon duly opened , a ballot was taken for Mr . J . Pratt , and this proving unanimous , that gentleman was admitted , and received the bonefits of initiation . Bros . Stovonson , T . Griffiths , and R . J . AA ebber having shown tho requisite amount of proficiency to ontitlod them to bo passed to tho P . O . degree , tho lodgo was opened in that degree , and those brethren advanced to that grade . Tho othor business having boon transacted , tho lodge was closed in due form , and

tho brethren adjourned to tho banquet tablo , where , after the usual introductory toasts had been disposed of , tho AV . M . gave " Tho Masonic Charities , " announcing that ho had undertaken to represent tho Royal Albert Lodgo at tho forthcoming festival of tho Masonic Benevolent Institution , and asking tho brethren to support hinl by thoir subscriptions . The AV . M nobly headed tho list with ton guineas , divided between tho malo and female annuitants : Bro . Turner , of 180 , following with fivo guineas to tho females . After tho paper had boon handed round to all tho brethren , subscriptions to tho amount of nearly £ 10 -ivero announced .

RAN " ELAGII LODGE . —At the usual meeting of this lodge , a great mark of respect was shown by the members to the memory of their late Bro . J . J . Hurst . The lodge was fully draped in mourning , the brethren also wore mourning , the deceased had been through the principal offices of the lodge , and was a P . M . exceedingly devoted to the studies of Masonry and anxious to use his greatest energies to promote the interest of tbe Craltand of his own lodge in particular , iind was

, eminently deserving the respect paid him . The secretary was also requested by the members in lodge assembled to write a letter of condolence with Mrs . Hurst expressive of their regret at his loss , and of the great regard in wliich their departed brother was held by every member of the Ranelagh Lodge .
