The Trades' Association are , however , about to move in the matter ; and if the merchants can only be induced to join in a remonstrance to the Legislative Council , it is hoped that the passing of the Act may be accelerated , and the association started into real existence .

Some proposed alterations in the bye-laws having been adopted , the Grand Secretary read the following correspondence with the R . W . Master of the Lodge St . David in the East , No . 371 , of Scotland : —

Brother , —I have the pleasure to forward for your information , and that of the Loolge over which you preside , the annexed extract from a communication received by me from B . W . Bro , Lieut .-Colonel James Bamsay , Prov . G . M . of Bengal ; and with best wishes , remain , dear Sir and B . W . Brother , Yours , fraternally , Ereeemasons' Hall , Calcutta , J . J . L . Extract from a letter from E . W . Bro . James Ramsay , Prov . Q . M ., to Bro . J . J . L . Hoff , Prov . 0 . / Sec , dated Camp , 27 th February , 1856 . "Matters have gone on very well , and I am very well pleased at the harmony and good feeling which seem to have sprung up . If you have an opportunity of personally acknowledging , in my behalf , the kind expressions towards me by

Cameron in his letter to you , I shall be obliged if you will do so for me , and say that , Scotch or English , I am equally a Brother Mason , and know no distinction beyond that of our working under different authorities . Grand Master ' s note , I will take the first opportunity of laying before the Lodge , and trust it will be a stimulus to them to persevere in the course they have begun , which meets with the approbation of such Brethren as yourself and B . W . Bro . Lieut .-Colonel Bamsay , Brov . G . M . With my best thanks for your kind attention in sending the extract , Yours faithfully and fraternally , Calcutta , 20 th March , 1856 .
