The Brethren then returned to Grand Lodge , and some votes of thanks having been passed , the Lodge was closed in due form . At five o ' clock the Brethren re-assembled in the assembly-room , which was elegantly decorated for the occasion , where nearly 200 of the Brethren dined together . Slip word , & c . & c . The whole . of the proceedings passed off most harmoniously , B . Banks , jun ., of the Freemasons'Tavern , acting as toast-master . NORTHAMPTONSHIRE . Northampton . —Pomfret Lodge ( No . 463 ) . - —The members of this Lodge assembled after the summer recess , on Thursday , the 4 th September , under the presidency of Bro . Wm . Worster , W . M ., when the latter , after the usual routine business of the Lodge had been gone through , vacated the chair in favour of P . M . Bro . Boeme , who , with his usual ability , passed Bros . Hinton and Jeffs to the 2 nd Degree . Mr . George Malin Sharman , of Wellingborough , surgeon , was then proposed as a fit person to become a Mason , and the Lodge was subsequently adjourned to the first Thursday in October .

NORTHUMBERLAND

Northumberland Lodge . —A petition , properly recommended by a Lodge in the province , and strongly supported by the worthy and excellent Prov . Grand Master , the Rev . E . C . Ogle , has been forwarded to the Grand Secretary for the Grand Master ' s approval ; and if the warrant is granted and sent down in time , the new Lodge , under the title of the " Northumberland Lodge , " will be consecrated by the Prov . Grand Master at the Prov . Grand Lodge on the 24 th of October .

The Lodge is promoted by some of the Masons of long and high standing in the province , there being among them no less than fourteen Past Masters , and nearly all are Past or Present Grand Officers ; the petitioners altogether number twenty-three , the juniors being all zealous and worthy Masons , and noted for being good workers . The auspices under which it has originated , and its object to be a good and efficient working Lodge , cannot fail to have a successful result .

Newcastle . —Newcastle-upon-Tyne Lodge ( No . 24 ) . —The Brethren assembled on Thursday , September 4 th , Bro . William Johnson , P . M ., in the chair , assisted by Bros . Henry Hotham and John Barker as Wardens . Mr . Charles West was duly initiated into the order . Local report speaks highly in favour of the newlyinitiated Brother , as one who promises to be an honour to the Craft . Other business being discharged , the Lodge was closed at nine o ' clock .

Lodge de Loraine ( No . 793 ) . ' —The members assembled at the Freemasons' Hall , in Newcastle , on the 19 th of September . In the unavoidable absence of the W . M ., Bro . John Barker , P . M ., presided , assisted by Bros . Joel , Bell , Franklin , and others . Some routine business was gone through , and the Lodge was closed in love and harmony . Newcastle . —Sutherland Lodge of Unity ( No . 674 ) . —Some twelve months ago the Brethren of this Lodge , and the companions of the Chapter of Perseverance attached to the same , thinking some testimonial of respect was due to the

Esa E .. onened a subscrintion for the nurnose .. ) . rov . . ., Thomas Ward , sq ., opened a subscription for the purpose of having his portrait painted and placed in the Lodge-room , as a lasting memorial of the estimation in which he is held . Subscriptions , which were limited to the members of the Lodge and Chapter , were immediately obtained ; and Mr . Emery , of Shelton , a well-known local artist , was intrusted with the execution of the portrait . The R . W . Brother is represented in full Masonic costume as 13 . Prov . G . M .
