Provincial.

The R . W . Proy . G . M . then , in a complimentary strain , proposed "The V . W . Prov . G -. Chap . Bro . Tanner , " to which the rev . gentleman responded , and congratulated the Brethren on seeing no less than three other clergymen present on the occasion , a proof that they were beginning to find out that Masonry was not what many formerly supposed ; but that in it was , what he had before asserted , nothing but good . $

The other toasts were the Prov . Gr . Treasurer ( who responded ) , the Visiting Brethren ( responded to by Bro . Alfras , P . M . ) , the Prov . G . Stewards ( responded to by Bro . Wilson ) , the Prov . G . Organist ( responded to by Bro . Twiss ) , the W . M . and Wardens of the province ( responded to by Bro . Wedgewood , W . M . of No . 701 ) ; and the Brethren separated about ten o ' clock , having spent a happy and harmonious evening .

On the following morning the Prov . Grand Officers , on the invitation of the W . M ., visited the Mersey Lodge , at the Angel Hotel , Birkenhead , where they partook of a splendid cold collation . Bro . Cruttenden and the other members of the Grand Lodge expressed their admiration at the manner in which the Lodge was set out and furnished , speaking of it as a "Model Lodge "

DERBYSHIRE . Chestebfield . —Scarsdale Lodge ( No . 981 ) . —On Wednesday , 10 th September last , a formal opening of the above Lodge , which has been recently established at the house of Mrs . Binder , of the Star Inn , Chesterfield , took place , by a grand inauguration and banquet on a scale of magnificence commensurate with the importance of the occasion . Some years back a Lodge connected with this ancient order existed in Chesterfield , but owing to the death of members and inattention

to the admission of new blood , it was allowed gradually to sink into nothingness , till it died out of mere decay ; and the regalia , furniture , & c , belonging to the Craft , were divided among the few survivors . Some few months ago the re-forraation of the Lodge began to he discussed , and the matter was brought before the public by the appearance of several well-written letters in one of the local journals , which had the effect of awakening attention to the subject , and preliminary meetings were held with a view to resuscitation , which was ultimately resolved on , as it was

found that a Lodge would meet with a large amount of support from highly influential quarters . No sooner was it announced that the Lodge was about to be reopened , than offers of support in abundance poured in from all sides ; and at present everything bids fair for future success , that will place the Scarsdale Lodge among the most important of its order in the kingdom . The enrolment of fresh members is progressing as rapidly as the rules and regulations by which the Masonic body is governed will permit , and we hear that many more have yet to be proposed for admission .

The greater part of the furniture belonging to the former Lodge has been returned for the use of the present one , and is now placed in the Lodge-room at the Star Inn , while new jewels , regalia , & c , are being added to complete what is deficient .

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE . A Prov . Grand Lodge was held at eleven o ' clock by the R . W . Acting Prov . CM ., C . P . Colville , Esq ., M . P ., for the purpose of consecrating the Scarsdale Lodge , and installing the W . M ., S . Bennison , Esq ., in the chair . The 11 . W . Prov . Grand Master , accompanied by bis Prov . Grand Officers , Bros . John Gadsby , as P . D . Prov . G . M . ; Samuel Hencliley , jun ., S . W . ; Rev . G . Wright , Chap . ; W . Allen , Sec . ; John Gamble , as Treas . ; Samuel Collinson , Reg . ; S . W . Ready , Sw . B . ; George Mason , Dir . of Cer . ; John Swain , Assist . Dir . of Cor . ; F . Huggins , as Dir . of Works ; W . Turner and J . L . Wykes , G . Stewards ; W . Faulkner , G . Tyler , then entered the Lodge-room , when the Lodge was opened in the three

Degrees of Craft Masonry by the R . W . Grand Master , who informed the Brethren of the purport of tbo meeting . The warrant of constitution from the Grand Lodge of England was then read by the Prov . Grand Secretary . A prayer was offered by the Prov . G . Chap ., Bro . Rev . C . Wright . The ceremony of consecration was then solemnly and impressively performed by the R . W . Grand Master
