moment of my life , and it shall be handed down to my children as a beacon to guide them , and a stimulus to persevere in the path of rectitude and honour . John ( No . 411 ) . —On Thursday , 7 th February , this [ Lodge held its regular meeting , when a clergyman of the Established Church ( Rev . Robert Bowden , of Stoke Gabriel ) , was initiated into the mysteries of the Craft , and Bro . E . Appleton passed to the F . C . Degree . The ceremonies were performed by the W . M , Bro . Franklin Thomas , in a most skilful and impressive

manner . DURHAM . Dakling-ton " . — - Restoration Lodge ( No . 128 ) . —The meeting of this Lodge took place on Thursday , the 31 st January , under the able presidency of Bro . the Bev . Robert J . Simpson , Prov . Grand S . W ., who was ably assisted in the duties of the evening by Bro . H . A . Hammarborn , W . M . of St . Helen ' s Lodge , Hartlepool , No . 774 . W . E . Franklin , J . W . of Lodge No . 56 and W . M . Elect of the Gateshead Borough Lodge , was received as a visitor , and expressed much gratification at the instructive ceremonies he had witnessed .

Durham . —Qranby Lodge ( No . 146 ) . —The regular meeting of this Lodge was held on the 5 th Januar } 7 , at the Freemason ' s Hall ., presided over by Bro . Wm . Tiplady , W . M ., who in a most impressive manner raised Bro . Hemmingway , of the cathedral choir , to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason , and passed another to the Second Degree . Bro . W . E . Franklin , who was paying visits to every Lodge

within reach , for the purpose of maturing his Masonic experience before taking the chair of the Gateshead Borough Lodge , No . 614 , was received as a visitor and most cordially entertained by the Brethren . It is quite a treat to witness the accurate and careful working of this Lodge , which sets an excellent example in this respect ; and the immense advantage of a private hall is here peculiarly observable .

Gateshead . —Borough Lodge ( No . 614 ) . —The installation of Bro . W . E . Franklin , bookseller , of Newcastle-on-Tyne and the North-eastern Railway , took place at the Lodge Room , on Monday , February 18 , when a strong gathering of Brethren from the surrounding district assembled to do honour to the occasion . The W . M . was ably installed by Bro . P . M . John Barker , Bast Prov . G . S . D ., Northumberland , who kindly undertook the duties , in the absence of the Prov . G . Director of Ceremonies for Durham , Bro . E . Davies , who wag

severely indisposed . The W . M . appointed the following officers , delivering to each a suitable and impressive charge on their various duties , and his appointments appeared to give satisfaction to the entire Lodge . Bros . Philip Holioway , P . M , ; William Preston , S . W . ; Charles Brinton , J . W . ; Andrew Gillespie , Bee . ; William Johnson , Treas . ; James Terry , 8 . ! . ) . ; Patrick 8 . Gillies , J . Dickson , Tyler . After the ceremonies the Brethren retired to a sumptuous entertainment prepared with the well known excellence and liberality of the host , Mr , G . Brinton , which being amply discussed hy about fifty Brethren , the cloth was withdrawn , and the usual toasts drunk . In giving " The B . G . M . of Durham , John Fawcett , Esq . ; his Deputy Henry Fen wick , Esq ., M . P . ; and the OlBcers of Provincial Grand Lodge , " the W . M . took the opportunity of remarking
