Ceumpsall . —Oheetham and Crumpsall Lodge ( No . 928 ) . —The first annual festival of this ! Lodge was held at the Crumpsall Hotel , on Monday , the 5 th . January , when Bro . Bichard Wood , P . M ., Lodge of Integrity , No . 189 , was duly installed as W . M . by Bro . John Shayler , the first Past Master , and Officers for the ensuing year were appointed and invested . The Treasurer submitted a summary of the accounts for the past year , which had been duly audited , and it is pleasing

to record that , in a Lodge which has only met for one year , a satisfactory balance was found to be in hand . It was unanimously resolved that the sum of fifteen guineas should be paid out of the funds to the Masonic Benevolent and Annuity Fund for East Lancashire , to constitute the W . M . for the time being a Life Governor , pursuant to the Provincial Grand By daws . The Brethren afterwards sat down to a banquet , and subsequently the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given , and a most agreeable evening was spent .

Lancaster . —Lodge of Fortitude ( No . 350 ) . —A short account of the recent proceedings in this flourishing Lodge may not be unacceptable to the readers of this Magazine . On the 10 th of December the Brethren met at their large and convenient Lodge-room , when six gentlemen were passed to the Degree of Bellow Crafts . The Lodge then proceeded to the election of a Master for the ensuing year ; the choice falling upon Bro . W . Wearing , the late S . W ., Bro . Wimpray was then re-elected Treasurer , and two committees were chosen ; one of

which was charged with making the necessary arrangements for the ensuing banquet , and the other with auditing the Treasurer ' s accounts . On the 29 th of December the Brotherhood assembled at three o ' clock , and the Lodge having been opened in the three Degrees , the installation of the W . M . elect was proceeded with according to the ancient usages of the Craft . The following Officers were then appointed : —Bros . J . Shrigley , S . W . ; B . Hall , J . W . ; W . M . Bye , S . D . ; W . King , J . D . ; E . Simpson , Sec . ; F . Dean and C . Howard , Stewards ; and J . Hatch , Master of the Ceremonies . The usual forms having been

completed , the Brethren , to the number of nearly fifty , adjourned to the King s Arms Hotel , where a sumptuous banquet had been provided by Bro . J . Sly , at which the W . M . presided . The Lodge was honoured by the presence of Bro . R . Hinde , P . M ., the respected chief magistrate of Lancaster , and Captains Lane , Thompson , Kirks , and Atkinson , of the 1 st Boyal Lancashire Militia . Among

the visitors we noticed Bro . B . Wearing , the W . M . of the Ancient Union Lodge , No . 245 , Liverpool , and other Brethren from the same place . On the removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were drunk amidst great applause ; and in the course of the evening a deserving tribute was paid to the immediate B . M ., Bro . S . W . Wearing , by Bro . E . Whin ray , P . M ., who spoke in the most eulogistic terms of the talent and energy which he had displayed in conducting the affairs of the Lodge , and of the many services which he had

rendered to the Craft in this town during his term of office . A variety of Masonic and other songs and glees were sung during the evening by Bros . Hatch , ISTevatt , and Howe , in a manner which added greatly to the general conviviality . The prosperous condition of the Lodge was the theme of general congratulation throughout , and the Brethren departed highly gratified with the manner in which they had celebrated the ancient Masonic Festival of St . John the Evangelist . On the 14 th of January the Brethren again assembled , when five Bellow Crafts were raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Masons by the W . M . in a

manner as creditable to him as it was satisfactory to those who witnessed the ceremonies . There was also an initiation . On ' this occasion Bro . the Rev . J . Bowley , the venerable Chaplain of Lancaster Castle , who was initiated in this Lodge in 1794 , was present , and previous to his departure addressed the Brethren , alluding to the pleasure he felt in witnessing the order and regularity with which the Lodge was . 1 __ I 1 1 Till 1 ll IT C il / 1 A /"\ Til TT ll conducted concluded b the of the their

' fully bore out his previous character as a proficient in the il Divine Art , " and the Brethren may justly be proud of the selection which they have made . There is every prospect of a bright future for the . Lancaster . Lodge of . Fortitude , and that it will continue to advance in numbers and respectability . Indeed , it may even now be said to ho second to none in the province .
