gross receipts . The present Secretary is paid by a fixed salary , the commission system being abolished , Avbich Avill result in a benefit to the Institution of say £ 200 per annum in the present and future

years , ancl would reduce the above calculation on the 1872 gross receipts from 9 ^ to 6 ^ per cent . The London Office Bent , Bates , Stationery , Advertisement , Election , and other expenses are 3 | per cent , on the gross receipts .

The average cost per head of the girls in the Institution for the past year is . £ 37 16 s ., including all expenses . TJie second established was—THE EOYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION

EOR BOYS . It Avas founded 3 rd July , 1798 , under the name of The Institution for Clothing ancl Educating the sons of deceased and indigent Freemasons . In 1868 , its

name Avas changed to its present designation , " The Eoyal Masonic Institution for Boys . " In 1811 , there were 48 boys clothed . and educated , which number sloAvly increased to 65 in . 1831 , ancl to 70 in 1851 . These boys were , at the option of their parents , sent to schools situated near to their residences ,

which arrangement was considered most defective in itself and insufficient as an educational effort , therefore in 1856 , a house and 10 acres of freehold land were purchased , for £ 3 , 800 , at Wood Green ; in 1857 , the building having

been altered , was opened as a school , when 25 boys were admitted to receive the benefit of a complete education , and the comforts of a home , the remaining boys being placed in other schools as heretofore .

In 1862 , owing to the defects of the old building , ancl the increasing demands for admission , it Avas determined to build an entirely ' Sew School on the same site , and in 1865 , the present school Avas openedfor the

, reception of 80 boys , and it has since been enlarged , so that in 1872 , there were within its Avails 144 boys , which , with two educated out of the school , made a total of 146 then in the enjoyment of the benefits of this Charity .

Early hi the present year the Committee , in consequence of the great number of applicants ( 69 applying in April last year , of which number only 19 could be admitted ) determined to increase the dormitory accommodation

hy an outlay of £ 2 , 500 , so as to enable them to receive 28 more , ancl make the total number 174 boys ; 14 were to be elected in October last year , ancl 14
