L . of Scotland , in the Queen Street Hall , Edinburgh , in memory of the late distinguished brother . None but M . M . 's AA'ere admitted , each of whom Avas in mourning , with three black crape rosettes on the apron , and the jewels coA'ered with crape . In 1 J 13 unavoidable absence of his Grace the Duke of Athole , G . M . Mason of Scotland , the R . W " . Br . G . AV . AVhyte Melville , Deputy G . M ., presided . Brs-Lord Loughborough

and Dr . M'Gowan officiated as the senior and junior Grand Wardens . There were upwards of 300 brethren present , comprising Major Nasmyth , the hero of Silistria , Brs . AVm . Hunt , of Pittencrieff , G . S . D ., Lieut . Duchar , G . J . D ., J . F . Oswald , of Dunnikier , Samuel Somerville , Adolphus Robinow ( the two latter representing Foreign Grand Lodges ) , Rev , Dr . Arnot , Grand Chaplain , J . L . Woodman , Grand Clerk , & c , & c . ; with deputations from most of the sister Lodges in Edinburgh , Glasgowand a number of the adjacent toAvns . Tho G . L- having been opened in due

, form , the service was commenced by tho G . Chaplain delivering the following-prayer : — Most Glorious God , Author of all good , and Giver of all mercy , pour down thy blessings upon us , and strengthen all our solemn engagements Avith the ties of fraternal affection . Let this striking instance of mortality remind us of our approaching fate , and so fit and prepare us for that aAvful period , AA'henever it may arrive , that after our departure hence , in peace and in Thy favour , AA'e may be received into Thy Everlasting Kingdom . —Amen .

Grand honours having been paid to the memory of the departed , Br . Kieser played a solemn dirge on the organ , which AA'as followed by Mozart ' s aria , " 0 , Isis ! " beautifully rendered by Br . Formes , assisted by the- chorus . Then came a servic , with responses , as follows : —
