The ceremonies over , the brethren adjourned to a banquet , at which the usual loyal toasts svere honoured . The toast of " The Grand Officers " was feelingly responded

to by Bro . the Right Hon . Sir W . A . Whiteway , K . C . M . G ., District Grand Master , Newfoundland , who said he scarcely knew how to express his feelings at meeting such friendship from the brethren on this side of the sea . He could say that , whether native by birth or native by residence , all

revered the motherland . When war broke out all came forward to uphold the Empire . Freemasonry did incalculable good by disseminating a kindly feeling among all— 'by setting a good example . Politicians might bind with a stronger tie , but Freemasonry bound with a silken tie .

Bro . Wesley Francis , District Grand Master , Natal , also replied , thanking the brethren . In the course of his remarks he said that during the progress of the war nothing had stood out so prominently as the fact that no Masonic property had been desecrated . Masonry had been a strong bond of

brotherhood , and he believed that nothing in the future would tend to promote such a good feeling between Boer and Briton as Freemasonry .

In proposing the toast of " The Consecrating Officers , the Worshipful Master informed the brethren that Bro . Letchworth had been compelled to leave ; the Grand Secretary having only been married six clays , and having already been engaged in Masonry three nights previously , he felt quite sure the brethren , especially the married ones ,

would understand and appreciate his excuse for leaving them . Bro . Richardson , in the absence of the Grand Secretary , replied , thanking them for the little present , and expressed his opinion that the lodge would take a high position on the

register of the Grand Lodge of England . In giving the toast of " The Worshipful Master , " the I . P . M . described him as a good all-round Mason , svho believed in charity and did good to everyone . He would be a difficult Master to follosv .

The Worshipful Master , Bro . Walter B . Marcus , in reply , said his heart w as with the Southern Cross and also with the Chough Lodge . He hoped to conduct the lodge during his year of office with satisfaction to the brethren and credit to himself .

The toast of "The Visitors , " followed by that of "The Officers of the Lodge , " brought a very successful evening to a close .

THE consecration of this , the latest provincial lodge in London , formed , as its name implies to provide a Masonic home in the Metropolis for brethren hailing from the counties known as East Anglia , took place at the Holborn Viaduct Hotel on Friday , June 20 th . The ceremony

was performed by V . W . Bro . Edward Letchworth , F . S . A ., Grand Secretary , assisted by Bros . J . H . Salter , P . G . D ., as S . W . ; C . E . Egerton Green , P . D . G . D . C , as J . W . ; the Right

BRO . Tin ; EARL OF STRADIiUOKE . W . M . Rev . the Bishop of Barking , P . G . Chap ., as Chaplain ; Frank Richardson , P . D . G . Registrar , as D . C . ; and William Lake , Assistant Grand Secretary , as I . G . In his opening address the Consecrating Master congratulated the founders upon having present the Right Worshipful Bro . the Earl of

Warwick , the Deputy Grand Master of England , and svho ss-as , in addition , Provincial Grand Master of one of the provinces in East Anglia .
