Brethren and their grateful thanks for this and the many other benefits he has conferred ujion the Lodge . " The Aledal , or Jewel , referred to was jireseuted to Bro . Taylor , iSth Nov . following . At this meeting " Bro . William Henry White , P . M . and

Grand Secretary , requested permission to withdraw his resignation as a subscribing member of this Lodge , which being put to the vote , was carried unanimously . " Bro . White thus became again a regular member of the Lodge after having been an Honorary Atember for about

four years . In January , 18 34 , the Audit Committee reported that there was a balance clue to the Treasurer of £ 39 5 s . 3 d ., and at

year , and for his handsome gift of a Jewel for the AI . C , 15 new Collars and a Case . " Bro . Hampton , P . M ., jirojiosed , ' That the Lodge of Instruction under the sanction of this Lodge be revived , ' which being seconded was carried unanimously . "

18 37 , Jan . 16 th . —A vote of thanks was again jiassed to Bro . George Heneky on the comjiletion of his second year as Alaster of the Lodge , and it was also resolved to jiresent him with a Past Alaster's Jewel , which was handed to him at the February meeting .

This is the first occasion of a jiresentation jewel being described as a " Past Alaster ' s Jewel . " Jewels or Aledals had been jireseuted by the Lodge previously but they are not described as of any jiarticttlar office or distinction .

At an Emergency Aleeting held July 10 th , 18 37 , the following Vote of Condolence was passed : — "To His Royal Highness , Prince Augustus Frederick , Duke of Sussex , Earl of Inverness , Baron of Arklow , K . G ., K . T ., etc ., etc ., etc ., Alost Worshipful Grand Alaster of the Ancient and Honourable Society of Free

and Accepted Alasons of England . " Alost Worshipful and Royal Grand Master , " We , the Alaster , Past Alasters , Wardens and other Officers and Members of the Lodge of Emulation No . 21 , in open Lodge assembled , beg most respectfully and

dutifully to approach your Royal Highness for the purjiose of tendering our sincere condolence in the great loss which your Royal Highness has sustained in the demise of your Royal Brother , His late Alost Excellent Alajesty , King William the Fourth . We rely upon the

warm attachment which you Alost Worshipful Grand Alaster have always manifested towards the Craft , that we shall still continue to enjoy the fostering care , which

for a quarter of a century has cheered and forwarded our Alasonic Labours . We humbly and fervently imjilore the Great Architect of the Universe to grant to your Royal Highness the enjoyment of Health , Peace , and Hajijiiness for many years to come . " Signed , W . BOLUS , W . AI .,

WM . KISLIXGISURY , S . W ., CHAHI . ES WILLIS , J . W ., T . H . Fox , Secretary . 18 39 , Feb . 18 th . —The thanks of the Lodge was unanimously voted to Bro . Hogard , J . W ., for a jiresent to the

Lodge of a handsome seal for the use of the Secretary . Alarch 18 th . — " It was resolved that Books of the Bye-Laws be jirinted and the names of every member of the Lodge be inserted and that a Book be given to each member . " The Bye-Laws were first ordered to be jirinted and

distributed to the members on 19 th X ov ., 1792 , and again on 15 th March , 1824 . A copy of the last mentioned , containing a list of the officers and members , is in the Grand Lodge Library .

Oct . 21 st . — "A letter of condolence was ordered to be sent to Bro . S . C Norris expressing the sympathy of the Brethren at the loss he had sustained by the demise of his excellent and resjiected Father who had been a member of this Lodge 41 years . " At the same meeting a vote of thanks was jiassed to

" Bro . C Willis , W . AI ., for his handsome gift of a set of splendidly carved Gavels in Ivory , and a Alahogany case . " 18 40 , Alarch 16 th . —A circular letter from the Grand Alaster was read at this meeting cautioning the brethren against jiublishing or giving information of the jiroceedings

in the Lodge for the purpose of publication , which letter was ordered to be inserted in the minutes , and is so inserted . Oct . 19 th . — " On the motion of B -Taylor , P . AI ., seconded by B' ' - Unwin , P . M ., it was resolved to discontinue the Freemasons' Quarterly Review .

1841 , Alarch 15 th . —A lengthy communication from the Grand Secretary , by command of the Grand Alaster , was entered in the minutes of this meeting . The document in question dealt largely with the duties of Masons generally and contained the following resolutions which had been jiassed nearly unanimously at a numerously attended Grand Lodge held on 3 rd Alarch , when ,

" Previous to the Alinutes of the last Quarterly Communication being read , the R . W . Deputy G . M . called the attention of the Grand Lodge to a Subject which he considered of the utmost Imjiortance to the Integrity and Welfare of the Craft—a Breach of Masonic Privilege by the Publication , in a Work entitled the Freemasons' Ouarlerlv lievie-ce , of the

Proceedings of the Grand Lodge and other Lodges . His Lordship stated that he felt himself at liberty to bring the Matter under Discussion without any jirevious Intimation ; still , however , being unwilling to do so when an Opjiortunity occurred of giving Notice , he had caused Notice to be given

at the General Committee last Wednesday . " The R . W . Dejiuty G . M . then jiroduced the Work complained of , and entered at considerable length into the Nature of the Offence , and concluded by moving as follows , viz .
