and Ripon proved himself an active and capable ruler , indeed , no Grand Mastership had opened with fairer prospects of successful administration of the affairs of the Craft , but he had , subsequently to his appointment , embraced the Roman Catholic faith , and at the quarterly communication in

September , 1 8 / 4 , amidst general expressions of regret at the loss of an able and high-minded ruler , his resignation was read , no other reason being assigned than that " he finds himself unable any longer to discharge the duties of Grand Master . "
