It is with very great pleasure we beg to offer to our readers the usual compliments and good wishes for the New Year , which will commence on Sunday next . In the case of those whose anticipations of success in 1892
may not have been fully realised , may they find compensation for their disappointment in the year that is coming ; while in the case of those who have had the good fortuno they hoped - for , may they find the year 1893 still more fortunate .
* « * The customary ^ New Year ' s entertainment to the inmates of the Royal Masonic ^ Benevolent Institution at Croydon will take place on Wednesday next , the 4 th inst ., when the members of the jCommittee of Management , with Bro . James Terry , the Secretary
and their friends will journey in a special saloon carriage provided for them by the London and South Eastern Railway Company to Croydon for the purpose of affording our old friends at the Asylum all the entertainment and enjoyment which it is possible to
contrive within the limited space of a few hours . The visitors will return in the same comfortable fashion . As a matter of course the olTices of the Institution at 4 , Freemasons' Hall , will be closed during the day from about 11 a . m . * * *
there was , unfortunatel y , a small , but important , literal in our report in tho Freemason for the 17 th inst ., / vhich it is desirable to correct . It was stated that the Secretary acknowledged having received from
Bro . Cania , P . G . Treasurer , a cheque for 60 guineas , to be divided between the two hi ghest unsuccessful candidates—one on each Fund—at the election in May , 1892 . The sum for which the cheque was made out was 10 guineas only .
Masonic Notes.
It is with very great regret we announce the death , a few days since , of Bro . John Gibson , who held the office of Grand Superintendent of Works in 1 S 7 S . Many important buildings in the Cit y were erected from the designs of our late brother , to whose famil y and friends we offer our warmest sympathy .

1019 J SIMON McGILLIVRAY , PROV . G . M . M . W . Bro . J . Ross Robertson writes me to know if there is any possibility of getting a picture of the late Simon McGillivray , who in 1822 was Provincial Grand Master of Upper Canada , and who died about 1845 . He would also like to know something concerning his relatives , if there are any alive ; or to have some information concerning that Masonic worthy , of any
kind whatsoever . I shall be glad to correspond with anyone who can aid my esteemed friend , and to purchase a portrait of Simon McGillivray , as soon as possible . Bro .
