The Quarterly Communication of United Grand Lodge will be held at Freemasons' Hall on Wednesday , the 4 th prox ., when , to judge from the paper of Agenda which we publish elsewhere , there will be plenty of business to be transacted . Much of this will be of the usual character , such as the nomination for

the offices of Grand Master and Grand Treasurer respectively for 1902-3 , the appointment and investiture of a President of the Board of Benevolence , and the election of tbe Vice-Presidents and of 12 Past Masters to serve on the same Board ; nor will there be any delay in these elections , as only two brethren have been nominated as Vice-Presidents , and no more than the prescribed 12 Past Masters .

* * # We are glad to note that announcement will be be made from the chair to the effect that his Royal Highness the M . W . Grand Master has been pleased to empower Provincial and District Grand Masters to confer Past Prov . and District Grand Rank in the

proportion of one for every 12 lodges in Provinces and Districts where the lodges do not exceed 30 in number , and one for every eight in those which muster more than 30 lodges . We are also glad to lind that without waiting for the meeting of Grand Lodge on the 4 th prox ., the Board of General Purposes authorised the transmission to the several Grand Lodges of the

United States of America of a resolution expressive of the sympathy of the English Craft with the people of the United States in the death of President Bro . William McKinley and their abhorrence of the crime which caused it and " the teachings which prompted it . "

* * * We remark that since the last Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge his Royal Highness the M . W . G . Mister has been pleased to grant warrants for the constitution of IS new lodges , of which five

will meet in London , six in the Provinces , and four in Districts Abroad . The London five are numbered 2 SS 1 to 28 S 5 , both inclusive , and include one ( No . 2 S 85 ) which will be connected with the Charterhouse ;

a Westminster City Council Lodge ( No . 28 S 2 ) ; and the Wrekin Lodge , No . 2883 , which , we suppose , will be for the convenience of Shropshire brethren resident ¦ n or visiting the Metropolis . * * *

Of the half dozen Provincial lodges , two will be located in Cheshire , namely , the Egremont , No . 2872 , at Liscard , and the Temperance , No . 2876 , at Birkenhead ; the Maiden , No . 2875 , at New Maiden , in Surrey ; the Bridge Trust Lodge , No . 2878 , at

Handsworth , in the Province of Staffordshire , a report of the consecration of which appeared recently in our columns ; the Ceres Lodge , No . 2879 , 31 Swaffham , in Norfolk ; and the St . Guthlac Lodge , No . 28 S 0 , at Market Deeping , in the Province of Lincolnshire .

• • • There are four new lodges Abroad , namely , the Federation Lodge , No . 2871 , Killerpore , Calcutta , in theDistrict of Bengal ; the Nanango Lodge , No . 2873 , at the place bearing the same name in the District of

Queensland ; the Robert Freke Gould Lodge , No . 2874 , so named in honour of out distinguished brother who some 40 years ago did splendid service to the Craft in the District of Gibraltar , in which the new

lodge will meet ; and the Khartoum Lodge , No . 2877 which will be located at Khartoum , in the District of Egypt and the Soudan , of which Lord Kitchener of Khartoum was the first and Bro . Sir Francis R . Wingate is the present District Grand Master .

* * » The Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons for England and Wales , & c ., will hold its regular Quarterly Communication at Mark Masons' Hall . Great Queen-street , on Tuesday , the 3 rd prox ., when

the Grand Master and Grand Treasurer for 1902-3 will be nominated , and the Report of the General Board will be presented and considered . This is a somewhat lengthier document than usual , and at the same time contains items of more than usual interest .

• • • According to this Report hisRoyal Highness the M . W . G . M . Master , since the last Report has granted warrants for the constitution of two new Mark Lodges and one Royal Ark Mariner Lodge ; of

the former the St . George , No . 551 , being located at Cape Town , South Africa , and the Adoniram Lodge , No . 552 , at Southport , in Lancashire . The new Royal Ark Mariner Lodge is named the Sunshine , and is attached to the Pinnacle Mark Lodge , No . 270 , Simla

in the District of the Punjab . We are also informed that during the quarter to the 30 th September there were issued 234 Mark and 63 Royal Ark Mariner certificates , raising the total number of Registered Mark Master Masons to 43 , 632 , and of Royal Ark Mariners to 6744 . #

» * The M . W . G , Master has appointed for a further term of three years the Earl of Yarborough , the Earl of Halsbury , and the Hon . Mr . Justice Burkitt as Provincial Grand Masters of Lincolnshire and

Cornwall , and District Grand Mark Master of Bengal , respectively , and he has also been pleased to appoint Bro . R . Loveland Loveland , K . C ., to be Provincial G . Master for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight , in succession to the late lamented Bro . the Right Hon . W .

W . Beach , M . P ., the following further appointments being consequent upon Bro . Loveland's nomination , namely , that of Bro . Frank Richardson , P . G . W ., to be President of thc General Board , and Bro . John Strachan , K . C ., to be Grand Registrar , vice Bro . Richardson .

Among the other items in the Report are a recommendation to Grand Lodge to recognise the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Victoria , Australia , subject to the usual " restrictions and conditions , " and the announcement that seven children have been elected without ballot upon the Educational Fund , We regret to add that there is also a recommendation

for the expulsion from Mark Masonry of a brother who was till lately Dist . G . Treasurer of Madras , and who , having been convicted of embezzlement , and sentenced to a term of imprisonment , has already been expelled from Freemasonry by the Craft Dist . Grand Lodge of Madras . Cases of this kind are happily of very rare occurrence .

* * » A chapter of the Great Priory of England and Wales , & c , will be held at Mark Masons' Hall , Great Queen-street , on Friday , the 13 th prox ., at 4 . 45 for 5 p . m ., and on the conclusion of the business , a chapter of the Great Priory of Malta will be held

under the banner of the Preceptory of St . George , when any Knight Templar who shall have signified his desire can be admitted , the fee for admission , including certificate , being one guinea . At the close of this further meeting , the customary banquet will be held at the Freemasons' Tavern adjoining at 7 p . m ., the price of tickets being one guinea each .

» * The Report of the Council of the Order will be presented in the course of the proceedings , and it is most gratifying to learn from this that Great Priory is in a most flourishing condition both financially and

otherwise . The invested capital of the General Fund is now ^ 4500 , and of the Benevolent Fund . £ 2500 . The Council state that there has been a steady and continued increase not only in numbers but also in influence and prosperity of the United Orders , and that Great Priory is on terms of amity with all legiti .

mate Templar Bodies in the world . Particulars are also furnished of the proceedings at the sixth annual conference of the three Governing bodies in the United Kingdom of the United Orders of the Temple and Hospital , which was held at Edinburgh on the 18 th April , under the presidency of Lord Saltoun , Grand Prior of Scotland .

* * * Acknowledgment from Sir Knight John Corson Smith , K . C . T ., Representative of the Great Priory at the Grand Encampment- of the Order in the United States , is also mentioned in the Report of the

resolution of sympathy sent by the Council with the Templar body and people of the United-States on the death of Sir Knight W . McKinley ; and regret is also expressed at the death of the Right Hon . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., Provincial Prior for Hampshire , and Sir Knight Lieut .-Col . George Lambert , Warden of

Regalia for upwards of a quarter of a century ; and announcement is made that Sir Kni ght R . Loveland Loveland , K . C ., has been appointed Prov . Prior for Hampshire , in succession to Sir Knight Beach , M . P ., Sir Knight John Strachan , K . C ., succeeding Sir Knight Loveland as Great Chancellor .

* ? * Lastly , we are informed that a warrant has been granted for the constitution of a new Preceptory to be known as the Connaught , and to meet at Aldershot ,

and that the Albert Preceptory has been transferred from Rochdale to Widnes , where it is confidently hoped that it will be found to have an increased sphere of " usefulness and prosperity . "
