should prize that jewel most highly , as well as the kind regard of the members of the lodge of which it was the token . The W . M . offered his services as a Steward representing the lodge at the forthcoming Festival of the Boys' School , and , upon the motion of the Treasurer , the sum of 20 guineas was voted from the funds of the lodge to the list of theW . M . An apology for non-attendance having been read from Bro . McLeod , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . I . B ., who regretted that the state of his health would not permit him to be present upon the occasion , the lodge was closed .
The brethren then adjourned to dinner , after which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . John Newton , P . M ., P . G . P . —the first Master of the lodge—responded , in the happiest strain , for " The Grand Ollicers . " The I . P . M ., in glowing terms , proposed the toast of " The VV . M ., " which was most heartily received .
In reply , the W . M ., Bro . W . L . Barker , cordially thanked the brethren for the honour which had been conferred upon him . He had endeavoured to perform , to th ; best of his abilities , all the duties which had devolved upon him in every position he had been placed in his life , and now , when by the favour of the brethren , he had been installed as their VV . M ., he should certainly exert himself to maintain , as M isters had done
in past years , the honour and wellfaie of the lodge , and to promote , to the best of his ability , the happiness of the members . He was not insensible to the grave nature of thc responsibility which he had accented , but with the continued favour of the brethren , and the assistance ot the splendid officers of the lodge , he trusted that when his term of office had expired , he would not be found wanting in the discharge of his onerous
position . The W . M . then gave the toast of " The Immediate Past Master , " remarking that during the tenure of the office of VV . M . by Bro . Lawson , he ( Bro . Lawson ) had , by the charm of his personality , drawn the brethren closer together in the bonds of affection and goodfellowship . The toast was received with great enthusiasm , and Bro . Lawson , on rising to respond , was greeted with an ovation . He said that he could not find words to express to the brethren of the lodje his deep sense of the
kindness which they had shown to him during his Mastership . He felt that the kindly feeling of which the VV . M . had spoken so warmly , was due to the fact that there had always been but one aim amougst the brethren , viz ., that of being happy and communicating happiness . By the generosity of the brethren , his Stewardship to the Girls' School had been a very respectable one , and he thanked them , one and all , for their kindness . He could not conclude without paying a high tribute of praise to the officers of the lodge who had performed their respective duties in a manner which reflected the highest honour
upon them . In response to the toast of "The Visitors , " Bro . Edmund J . Morgan , P . M . and Secretary 1571 , in reply , said it was always a pleasure to attend the installation meeting of the Lodge of Loyalty , but the pleasure was enhanced , when as on the present occasion the brother who happened to be installed into the chair of King Solomon happened to be an old and valued friead . By dint of perseverance Bro . Harper had thoroughly qualified himself for the important trust to which he had been called , and judging from the able manner in which he had invested his officers that afternoon , he would
worthily uphold the best traditions of the Lodge of Loyalty . After paying a welldeserved tribute to the Installing Master , Bro . James Lawson . for his excellent rendering of the beautiful ritual of the installation ceremony , and congratulating Bro . George Cunnington on his well-merited promotion to the Senior Warden's chair . Bro . Morgan concluded by hoping that there might be before the newly - installed Master a happy and prosperous year of ofiice ; that , strong in the affections of thebrethren
and assisted by the Past Masters and brethren , Bro . Barker might wield the gavel of the lodge with firmness and gentleness ; that not only in name might they be the Lodge of Loyalty , but that they might continue to practice that loyalty to one another and to the Charities of Ihe Craft , for which they had been so long distinguished ; and that when the time came for the W . M . to retire from the chair of the lodge he might convey with him—not into the fossil stage , which was too often the case , but into the active ranks of the Past Masters—the esteem and affection of the whole of the brethren .
The toasts of " The Masonic Charities , " " The Past Masters , " and " The Officers " weie all duly honoured , and the Tyler's toast concluded the proceedings . A delightful programme of music , under the direction of Bro . Fred . W . Stephens , P . M . 134 S , was rendered by Madame Alice Lovenez , Miss Jessie McLaren ( whose charming perlormances upon the violin were warmly applauded ) , and Bro . James Budd .

should regret passing out of the chair there was one consolation and that was being succeeded by many worthy brethren and knowing that they would feel the same glow of pleasure which he felt , he was also gratilied to feel that he was so well and ably supported by two officeis who were heart and soul , not only in Freemasonry , but in its true purpoit , that the lodge was progressing and the prosperity of it being the utmost desire and aim of every member required no testimony from him , and that during his term of ofiice no effort should be wanting in securing the comfort and happiness of thc members .
In responding to the toast of "The Visitors , " Bro . C . II . Slingsby , P . P . G . S .
